so many series have managed to make great comebacks, i dont know why the ff series is always underwhelming. since 7 and 8 there have been a few decent titles but they are just a shell of their old selves. i think most people would agree.

Played it throughout the weekend and yes, it's a lot better than 1.0 and WoW, but I can't say it's better than FFXI. FFXIV: ARR feels more like any other MMORPG out there with their own twists, of course, like the F.A.T.E example. FFXI was and still is on another level (until ARR fully releases we may be able to compare the 2 at end-game) where classes still require a lot of skill and strategy, and quests aren't handed to you on a platter on what to do or where to go. FFXI is more immersive in a way where you really have to explore and wander around. What are your thoughts on this? I played FFXI till end game before The Abyss. (Abyss ruined it for me)

Either way, ARR is amazing and I will also be playing this on release! We should all play on the same server!

FFXI had a much bigger world, and also even when it was launched in North America, it was already running for over a year with an expansion. So its hard to compare. From what I've experienced in ARR, it improved almost every aspect that I hated in FFXI. (ie mob re-pop is much faster, you get exp for helping others, quests are much easier to track)
ARR is far less time consuming. I could actually pick up and play a few quest and level up. While FFXI was countless hours waiting for a group.

But I'm not sure if its just beta or the final version is gonna be the same. So far I think its far too easy. Quest mobs gives like 100% drop as well. The game is still at an early stage, so if this game could finally succeed, I'm sure there will be more to come.

I just wish they change the payment method to billed by time online instead of monthly.

SWTOR is making way more money now that they switched. It was either that or shut down the game. In fact I think the only MMOs that are making money are F2P, other than WoW (which is F2P to a point)

Hmm yeah I can see that. FFXI seems to be dying off slowly too, but they keep coming out with expansions and new material. If they do the same for FFXIV, I think FFXIV may last longer than FFXI. Who knows. I just hope it lasts long enough for me to get bored :D

So far in terms of content and size of the map.... its like only 1/10th of FFXI when it was launched. its gonna be years before it can even reach the content size of FFXI

or maybe its just that fast travel is just too common now in FF14, it loses the sense of the size of the world.

Phase 4 is open beta and will start around mid july till mid august. Phase 3 is closed beta and only opens on weekends for the first 3 trial, this weekend is the 3rd weekend, afterwards, it will open for a week until july 14th.

you can treat phase 4 as a free demo/trial for the game, the character process in phase 4 will carry over to the final release.

You have to buy it.. but it's not mandatory. I'm pretty sure you can just log in without it if your account isn't registered to one.

I've bought the V1.0 CE but, I'm sure you can log in without one.. Eventhough it's there, your account shouldn't be registered to one so it wouldn't need to be entered. I dunno man. :( Guess you can ask someone for a Buddy Pass when the game launches.

You should pick it up again! There is just so much content with all the patches that came out and with the new expansion coming soon (4 days for early access) I just can't imagine what that'll entail. It's quite a grind at the beginning because you'd want to get the cross class abilities from other classes for your main, but the end game is definitely worth it.

Also, the expansion won't really be as engaging for new players since you wouldn't be able to play the new classes until you finish all the main scenario quests up till now, but you can still play the new race. There is something for everyone in FFXIV. You'll probably end up playing every class on a single character, experiment with the Disciples of Hand and Land, Triple Triad, Chocobo Raising, Chocobo Racing, housing, beast tribes.. I think this is and will be one of the best MMO's for years to come if they keep up with these insane content patches.

No regrets. There's so much more content now. SO MUCH MORE. Decided to preorder the expansion too. If you've already bought the game, might as well re-sub for a month to see if you like it.

Just picked up this game. I didn't realize FF14 came out in September 2010. Having fun with it so far. I picked a little midget character and I get a spell casting buddy pet to help me. I'm level 9 right now. Feel pretty lost in the game in a way, but they hold your hand through it pretty good too, if that makes sense.

I'm on Coeurl on my new character and it just hit 15. Game's been fun so far and can't wait till I hit 50. Still a long ways to go though.
