Maybe the MODS could just change the title to the iOS 7 Thread and merge this one with comments from the other thread. No need to have discussions spread around.
Been playing with the beta since last night and also with Xcode. They're right when they said there were a lot more changes than what they could go over at the keynote. Many items that just received a one-liner on the feature slides are actually significant. For example, gaming. They now have a hardware-accelerated animation system for developers along with a new framework for external wired/wireless controllers/profiles. Airdrop isn't just a feature - developers can use the AirDrop framework to add the ability to share to their own Apps. iOS already dominates Enterprise and they've improved it with enhanced VPN support and mobile device management features.
Eye-candy is nice, I guess, but not something I'm really interested in. Hell, I still have the default Windows wallpaper on my machines - that shows you how much I'm into customizing. But the interface is nice and clean and more consistent, which is good.

I updated my iPhone 5 to iOS 7 last night. I welcome the changes. My phone was previously jailbroken and the tweaks I was using are now integrated to iOS 7. For a beta, it runs great. I've discovered a couple of bugs but nothing major.

Welcome to 2009!
It's funny, watching the live updates about the show. I definitely welcome some of the new changes to iOS7, but then you step back and realize it's crazy that some of those changes are features that have been missing for years.
When he demo'd the weather app, the app is great and all with the dynamic background... but why couldn't they get the icon on the main screen to just update with the current temp and weather? This is 2013, and all the other OS's have updating widgets and tiles.
Every coffeeshop/fast food join has free wifi now - did it really take this many years to have your wifi page easily accessible?

I've got loads of bugs, but mostly with Apps not working right. Lots of issues with music/audio Apps, wondering if this is due to the new Inter-App Audio framework Apple added. Also wonder what this means for Audiobus since its main functionality is now part of iOS.
Edited: Forgot that Inter-App Audio was on one of the slides for iOS 6, but never made it into the final version. Then Audiobus cameout and people wondered if this was the same thing. Now it looks like Apple has included it this time around. Big news for people doing anything with music.

for those without iphone 5, I won't recommend updating to iOS7, even when its final released. I installed it on a 4S and a 5... the 4S looks like windows running without aero, and the phone slowed down dramatically. iPhone 5 on the other hand looks much better
I can't imagine how slow it will run on an iphone 4... considering its already fucking slow when running 6.1

This looks like a refresh to keep up-to-date with the other rising mobile OS'es (Android, WP8, Berry) rather than coming up with something entirely new. There's hardly any features that's unique to iOS7, and many new layouts reminds me of Android.

It is really more of a refresh, there isn't anything "new" I think the coolest thing is the parallax background lol.

iOS 7 feels slow when switching apps, going to home screen, multitasking, and tapping the screen for pop-up controls (ie. video player). The delay is definitely noticeable and I hope this is just a beta thing.
Also I noticed another problem. When trying to rearrange apps in a folder you can move anything to the right pages. It thinks you want to move the app out of the folder instead.
But other than the bugs this new OS looks and feels GREAT!
I complained bout the looks and all too but the transitions from app to app and such feels awesome.
Also. Vancouver now has 3D maps!

I notice there are quite a few bugs or missing features in this build already. Some of which are expected.
- Camera app crashes randomly
- No option to download all songs with one click in iTunes Match
- Huge Performance issues, overall responsiveness, app store, music app, everything just lags.
- Chinese handwriting is actually worst than before
- a lot of apps currently have compatibility issues (i.e. wechat not allowing pictures to be chosen, bejewelled blitz fail to launch etc)
- Can not swipe to delete in email app
For those who installed it, did you get a friend to give your device access, or are you actually developers (and have you played around with Xcode yet)?
Like someone mentioned already, you don't need to give your device access. You just need the .ipsw file for your specific phone and just force iTunes to update it.
It seems that some of the apps just took forever to boot the first time around, because there were new permissions - but it seems better after.
I like some of the transistions - with the folders and apps, etc - but they're way too slow.
^ where can I find the ispw? I downloaded one, and it doesn't work :(

I have the iPhone 4 and iPhone 5 ipsw files. If you guys need them, pm me and let me know - I'll dropbox a link for guys. My coworker isn't in today, so I don't know if I can grab any other ones.
I got them through the Apple Developer site - my buddy downloaded it through his account.

I'm aware of that method. I'm really more interested in who's a developer (as I also develop for iOS). They will usually have a different perspective on things. For me the new API's are a bigger deal (compared to the UI) as this is what's going to allow developers to create better Apps. I mentioned two above (gaming and audio), but there's a lot more.

Well this came out of nowhere. Just one day after Blackberry announced their MDM for iOS and Android, Apple puts a page up giving details about their new enterprise features.
iOS 7 For Business (http://www.apple.com/ios/ios7/business/)
Not good for BB, who always had an edge in this area. And even with that edge they were still losing enterprise customers to iOS. This will just make things worse for BB.
iOS7 Beta 2 was out yesterday. Fixed one big bug that I had found before - where if you go to the recent calls list - tapping a number on that list would automatically call them back, as opposed to opening up that number with extra options such as messaging back, adding to contacts, etc.

Anyone else want to run some benchmarks on an iPhone 5 for comparison? I did the browser/Java ones first and was quite surprised (iOS 6 results are in brackets). This is on Beta 2.
Mozilla Kraken: 13,960 (20,630) lower is better
Sunspider 1.0: 730ms (845) lower is better
Browsermark 2.0: 2760 (2614) higher is better
Google Octane V1: 2820 (1728) higher is better
I ran Kraken first and thought it was a mistake since the results improved so much. But after running all benchmarks three times these results are consistent. Looks like some significant performance gains in Safari.
Tried running GFXBench but it crashed/won't load properly.

Even after disabling it, it will not let me zoom out like before. I'm guessing it is because they want to have the entire screen filled, which is why they limited how far you can zoom out.

everything is smooth after 10-15 mins of loading up ios7 for the first time. I read it lags in the beginning due to it pre-loading all the old apps to be updated for ios7. I also got stuck at icloud for a while but everything worked out in the end.

Rather than go through point by point, I'll just say that iOS 6 is extremely outdated overall. Maybe you only really notice after using Android 4.x for a while.
Also performance is pretty bad for multitasking, even on the iphone 5. Hopefully 7 improves that, but with only 1GB of RAM I doubt it will make things better. If anything, it'll be worse. We'll see!

ok i checked with a few other people and i'm not the only one. there is DEFINITELY slight delay when going to the app switcher, going back to home screen and trying to click on another app or swipe right after, or going back a page (in any app) then clicking another link right away.
It's like there's 2 extra frames of animation added to the end of everything that requires u to wait a tad bit longer before clicking anything. Yes I know it's a small thing but my muscle memory has been used to the snappiness of iOS for the past many years that this is a big annoyance. I'm REALLY surprised not many people are talking bout this on the net. I wish there were more complaints so that apple can fix it in the next update.

If you're having trouble with the animations being slightly choppy try going into settings > general > accessibility > increase contrast.
Your control center and notification area as well as your folder backgrounds wont be semi-transparent anymore, but your animations will be smoother

Ya I gave that a shot but it didn't work.
It's not that the animation isn't smooth but more like they added a few extra still frames to the end of all the animations. So what you think is "oh, the animation is completed and safe to press something now" but nope! it's not finished even though it looks like it is!

I know what you mean and I think thats why non iphone 5s and 5c devices feel slower on the new ios. You'd think Apple would create speed optimizations for all of their supported devices.
The only positive to ios 7 to me is the prettiness factor.
My ipod definitely feels a tad slower compared to ios 6.
I really hope they release an update soon that's a little more polished and optimized for even the older devices

It's weird because everything else seems just fine. It really feels like a poorly coded software issue and not a software/hardware issue.
And isn't the 5C the exact same as the 5? Specs wise?

Animations are definitely janky on the ipad 2.. it actually looks funny because sometimes some components travel faster than others. It also turns on and off with a 0.3-0.5 second lag each time which is kind of annoying.
Apps themselves seem the same though, but the already laggy app switching was just been made worse.. I guess we're supposed to upgrade our hardware as soon as they are all 64 bit! ;)

I honestly have no idea what the specs on the 5s and 5c are.
But I'm guessing Apple optimized ios 7 to be perfect on the new devices, forcing people to upgrade.

There are a lot of really sketchy spy settings enabled by default in iOS 7.. if you upgraded you will want to go through and disable them:

While you're at it, complain about the STUPID fade in animation when you turn the phone on.
Updated a few of my devices and so far the only issue I have (which is a rather pressing one) is the fact that my bloody folders on my iPad are all now 3x3.
Seriously? So much wasted real estate. I know its to give the feeling of "zooming in" into the folder but 9 icons on a ~10 inch screen is outright idiotic and inefficient use of space.
The new launcher bar is a nice touch, quick access to BT/Plane/Sleep etc etc is very handy. Photos app is much improved and finally Newsstand can be placed in my "usless shit" folder.

If you have anything older than iphone 5 or ipad 3, you will want to go to Settings > Accessibility > Reduce Motion and enable that setting. It gets rid of the effect where icons wobble when you move the phone around.
I disabled it on the iphone 5 anyway because not only does it waste resources and battery, it actually looks really stupid.

I've been hesitant to update my 4S to iOS7 because my iPad 1G is completely crippled due to it being upgraded to iOS 5.1.1 to the point where it is so slow it is simply not usable.
A few friends of mine have been using the 4S updated with iOS7 without any issues whatsoever though, and I did have a chance to use a 4S on iOS7 and it feels no different from iOS6 in terms of speed (and according to online reviews, though there have been notes on keyboard and lockscreen lag in very rare cases).
Thing is, my iPhone is locked to Rogers but I'm using a Gevey SIM and using it with Fido. I'll have to purchase a Gevey Ultra S to have it work with Fido...

Discovered a bug in the music player.
Searching for a song in the Music App by Artists crashes the app (I discovered about 20+ songs so far). However, searching for the SAME SONG by Album or Genres does not!
This only happens on iPad 2/3 & iPad Mini, searching for the same song (All my music lib syncs from the same iTunes on my Mac) by Artists on iPhone 4/4s, iTouch 5 works with no problems.
Kinda shocked that Apple actually allowed such an obvious/major bug to go live. Guess not many ppl play/stream/AirPlay their music using iPads during the Beta testings?

I found many crashing bugs with ios7 that I can't remember them anymore.
I don't know if this is a bug but it annoys me is the messages app. If I clear the conversation and the contact is still in there for quick access to message and I turn the phone off or reboot it, the time stamp for all the contacts where the conversation is cleared all have the same time and is displayed at the top of the list instead of at the bottom like ios6. The time changes everytime I reboot the phone.
The picture shows what I mean. I blanked out the names. I reboot at 1:44am so all the contacts where the conversations has been cleared it's all time stamped 1:44am and is display at the top. So now instead of clearing the whole conversation, I just leave one message in there so the last person I messaged will be displayed at the top.

Also I don't know if it's supposed to be like this but in the photo app, the album pictures has 2 lines at the top of each picture that is distorted. It doesn't look right

Looks like 64bit isn't the "gimmick" all the uneducated naysayers were claiming it was.
Several developers have already created 64bit versions of their Apps, and many have added new features that were not possible on the iPhone 5/iOS 6 because the performance simply wasn't there. Moreover, developers have been able to take 64bit code directly from their Mac Apps and port it over to the 5S/iOS 7, bringing additional desktop features to mobile devices.
This is a bigger deal than most people think. Although we take many features on our PC's for granted (the ability to edit photos/video or do 3D animation) many seem to forget that this capability was once reserved for high-end workstations by companies like Silicon Graphics. This is how it's always been in the computer world - as technology gets better and our PC's get faster, software that was once the domain of mainframes or minis has trickled down to the PC. We are now seeing this with mobile devices (phones/tablets).
Apple making a 64bit processor and OS is going to accelerate this on iPhones and iPads since developers can share a 64bit codebase between the Mac and iOS. Developers who have spent time creating and optimizing 64bit code to perform various high-end functions on the Mac are now going to be able to bring some of those over to iOS devices.
I predict Microsoft is going to quickly follow this path as well (64bit Windows Phone). With the huge number of programs running on Windows, developers have a massive resource of code/features they can also port to WP.
Apple and Microsoft are the only two companies who can really make a smooth transition in bringing powerful desktop features to mobile devices. Everyone else is pretty much left out. I'm just wondering how long it will take MS to release 64bit WP.

Tim Cook said (rightly so) that iOS and Mac OS will not be merged. This makes sense as the paradigms for a touch device and traditional PC are significantly different.
I doubt we'll see Photoshop on an iPad. But I can see Adobe making a "lite" version. And by "lite" I mean that it's a subset of all the features of Photoshop, not that the features themselves are lower quality versions. This will be possible as Adobe can take their existing 64bit highly optimized and fine tuned algorithms and bring them straight over to iOS virtually unchanged.
So to slightly reword your post, I think it's safe to say we'll see Apps with desktop class features, not the entire desktop App itself.
Unless Apple moves completely to ARM, or develops a really good x86 chip, that'll never happen

Don't need to. What many people don't realize is that Apple made iOS 7 to have the same application binary interface (ABI) as Mac OS. For people who don't understand that term, it basically means that if two operating systems have the same ABI then an App compiled to run on one should also run on the other.
This is possible because Apple's implementation of ARMv8 is slightly different from ARM's standard specification. Clearly Apple has thought way ahead when they designed the A7 in order to allow developers to easily code for both iOS and Mac OS, and to start bringing features (by way of existing code) down to iOS.
As to a 64bit Exynos, the chip might be ready but what OS will it run? Just like there are numerous bloggers intent on minimizing the significance of the A7 and Apple's move to 64bit there are also numerous bloggers claiming that Android can be converted to 64bit virtually "overnight" and that making a 64bit DalvikVM will benefit all existing Apps. It's not going to be nearly that easy or "clean".
And unlike iOS or WP (who have "parents" in Mac OS and Windows), there's no huge library of 64bit software developers can call on to start bringing desktop class features to Android Apps. Nobody's coding Photoshop (or similar high-end software) in Java.

You can even set different colours LEDs depending on what type of notification

And even if there is some sort of JB hack, it's on the wrong side anyways so you would have to leave the phone face down at all times. Bottom line is no front led notification light is a major oversight.

And even if there is some sort of JB hack, it's on the wrong side anyways so you would have to leave the phone face down at all times. Bottom line is no front led notification light is a major oversight.
Don't even get me started on the lack of numbers/symbols on the keyboard w/o toggling. Wow. I knew that not being able to change the KB on IOS is a limitation versus other phones, but I didn't know it was that limited...
it sounds like the iPhone isn't for you.
There are plenty of other devices I would suggest you to choose from, maybe a Blackberry since you love the notification light and the fact that Blackberry has a physical keyboard might appeal to you more.
I think a lot of iPhone/iOS users are more then happy with a simple notification. I myself have a pebble so I can check notification whenever I want with out touching my phone.

Yeah, you're right. An iPhone is not for me. Unfortunately this is a work phone. I have Note 2 as my personal phone and have gone thru 3 other Android phones (including Nexus 5). Only my first Android phone (original Galaxy S) from 3 1/2 years ago didn't have a notification light, which is why i'm surprised the latest 5S does not have it.
As for Blackerries, yeah have used 4 different ones for work in the past 5+ years and they finally kicked us off BB's. Too bad they didn't really give the OS10 a chance.
I do find that the predictive text (and swype capability) on the Swiftkey (keyboard) on my Android phones work quite well tho
And lastly, a smartwatch is definitely on my "to buy" list. Just waiting on the moto 360
Anyways sorry for the rant, back to my original question. Is there a way to enable auto-download full HTML messages for emails? TIA
