Looking to get a circular saw for all purpose cutting uses. Thinking of doing some small projects around the place like building some planter boxes to a dining table. What to look for in terms of specs and such. Corded or cordless, brands to avoid etc.

I use the cheap one by Skil and it does a good job. I think it was $60 or something.

Like any other tool, its the blade that makes the difference.

buy the Makita at $110 or whatever it is, best bang for your buck by far

on most job sites you'll notice [in my experiance] that about 75% of framers etc use Makita

From using all types of brands all I can say is:

-A sharp blade > a dull one
-Don't cut into things that you shouldn't cut into (screws, nails, the cord, your hand etc.)

If you're just a handy at home type of guy you don't need to spend a whole lot on a skillsaw. I like having a plug in one just because I don't need to recharge my batteries and I get more cutting power.

Makitas are great, but cheaper brands can cut just as well.

Battery powered skill saws are like the dumbest shit ever invented anyways, at best it can be used for mouldings, at worst it kills all your batteries

I would only use a battery powered one in instances where I don't have power.

I also think that brand could matter for battery powered ones. Not so much plug in ones.

i use a dewalt corded with a freud diablo blade. shit fucking cuts through anything lol.

i recommend a makita or a higher end milwaukee.

a dewalt is alright if you arent gonna go crazy with it.


whatever saw you decide to get chuck the factory blade aside and make sure you get a freud diablo blade. you wont regret it
