: Planning to get the Asus ZenBook Prime UX31A-DH71T-CA, Noob Questions

Hey guys, help me out here (total noob), as I have been pretty much out of the loop for the past few years... and generally not as geeky as I think I am anymore...

The cmpt I am still rocking on is still DuoCore (2007), lol not even Core2Duo, so suffice to say, it is time for something new.

I do need the portability, so desktop is out of the question, I am planning on getting
Asus ZENBOOK Prime UX31A-DH71T-CA w/ Core i7-3517U, 4GB, 256GB SSD, 13.3in FHD Touch, Win 8 64-bit
Asus ZENBOOK Prime UX31A-DH71T-CA w/ Core i7-3517U, 4GB, 256GB SSD, 13.3in FHD Touch, Win 8 64-bit at Memory Express (http://www.memoryexpress.com/Products/MX42067)
For $1099

At that price, should I be looking at anything else? Or this is the best bang for the buck so far? (I know I missed the $799 (non-touchscreen ver.) sale fail -.-)

to me
the sleek, light weight body is a +, as I will be taking this thing in and out and around alot, I am kind of worried about the 4GB ram, especially if the video card isnt a standalone. But I wont be gaming at all with it. The touch Screen is not a huge thing for me, but hey why not right? My most intensive use out of it will be Photoshop CS5 and Illustrator CS5, granted not running at the same time. I get away with light room 95% of the time, and Photoshop only when necessary. Illustrator is more for work than anything else. Other than that, I think it will just be 1080p playback that will actually/might work the cmpt hard.

I know asus is known about heat issues, so does anyone own one of these to let me know some first hand experience?

Sorry for the long post and random questions, and TIA

=P Help a fellow RSer out to find the right laptop/ultrabook?

I never had any problems with mine. It worked pretty damn well. One thing to note is that it kinda scuffs easily because it is polished metal and has full on 90deg corners versus rounded ones.

My only reason for selling it was that I needed cash at the time so I downgraded to something else.

My biggest beef with some of the ultra books is their Ram, why limit this to 4GB?

You may also want to consider the new Sony: Sony VIAO SVP13215CDB, w/ Core i5-4200U, 8GB, 128GB SSD, 13.3in FHD Touch, Win 8 at Memory Express (http://www.memoryexpress.com/Products/MX46394)

It's an i5 but it does use the new Haswel chip (although it's build able on Sony site). I was considering this one myself but didn't like the viewing angle of the screen.

Mine has dead spots on the screen and the touch pad jumps around randomly. Touchpad usually works alright, but once every few hours it will do something I did not intend.

I don't have as good of a model as the one you listed (Asus S46c), but I agree with the previous comment about the touch pad being odd.

I am not sure if its just a isolated thing, but if my palm rests on the area close to the touch pad, it considers it as a finger held down on the pad. As such, I am unable to scroll via dragging 2 fingers.

Also on occasion, it twitches over to the screen corners.

I think the touch pad is a known issue.

But regardless Laptop ordered... LOL

in 2013, and I am still getting a duo core with integrated graphics.... well since I wont be gaming, it should be okay....

When I had mine, it was fine. Just had some backlight bleeding on the bottom.

Seems a bit steep for the price though.

I will also add I liked the keyboard quite a bit for a small notebook. Speakers were pretty good as well, not as 'tinny' as others its size but still a little bit.

I don't have much problems with mine...though it does tend to get quite warm easily.

GOOD PRICE!
