Herro guys
Might pick up a 97 prelude as a daily/winter car
Here are some details
97 Prelude
Red, 5spd
120k
Local, clean title
maintenance up to date apparantly
Was going to PM couple members here with preludes but thought their opinions might be a little biased.
I would like some unbiased opinions of the car such as...
-Maintenance, gas mileage: how much it is to fill up, how many kms you can get out of full tank
-Reliability, will you buy one again etc.
-What to specifically look out for if i was to go check out this car, and...
-how much would YOU personally pay for a prelude in this mileage and status
Thanks
look for a type SH, I'd say that's the only one worth getting!

Buddy of mine is in the market for one of these, mind saying what the asking price is? :)

Burns oil so keep it topped up and check the level at every fill up. Your not getting an automatic so you have no transmission issues to worry about. ATTS on the SH should not be a deal breaker. Base model ones are great for modding.

Clutch and timing belt jobs are a fair bit more labour than most Hondas. As long as they're in check, the car, overall, is pretty trouble-free.
BTW spotted you coming back from lunch.

Bought mine with 200k KMs for $4200 . If it's in good cond, I would pay about 7k for said car. However, I betcha its listed for 8 or 9. Also, if you are planning any mods, research the type SH first.

Cost appprox $75-80 for a full tank of 91. I usually get 350-400kms a tank. A common problem with the H22 engines are they burn oil pretty bad especially if hit Vtec all the time. I've recently switched over to conventional oil instead of synthetic and noticed less oil burn. If you're planning to mod the car, you're better off with the 4th gen. There isn't a lot of aftermarket part availibilty for the 5th gen.

Why would you put 91 into a honda?
*edit* Nevermind just read the end of your post and it all makes sense.
^ because it says in the manuel. Premium fuel only.

if everything checks out jpark, from what you telling me, i'd pay about 6-7k for it but itll probably be over priced. check vmrcanada.com and use it a bit for leeway if any. these cars burn oil a lot, my 4th atm burns so much its annoying. my royal purple is going to waste im giving it to my gf lol LC21 hit most of the important stuff. although owning a 4th gen atm, i find that there is more stuff available for a 5th gen :( and 5th gen stuff doesnt cost as much as 4th gen stuff. i found the 5th gen got better mileage to the tank then my 4th gen. i spend like 30$ every 3-4 days and im like WTF lol barely get 300-350km to a tank i think

Bone stock?
I would pay approximately 6k-7k depending on the options and other things added, such as the stereo. Remember to factor in brakes and tire conditions.
"Full tank" is vague. With mixed driving, I get 10L/100km or 23.5mpg on average (which is right on the EPA estimate of 20/25). Fuel tank size on 5th generation Preludes are 60L. Light should come on when there is approx. 10L remaining.

I can usually squeeze in about 45-48litres. Once the light comes on i drive for another 40-50km before i fill up. These aren't known to be the most fuel efficient cars though.

I get about 550-600 km/tank on 91 Octane.
I have a base model and honestly the ATTS in the SH is just one more thing to worry about and makes the car a bit heavier as well.
The 97-98 5th gen models had a lot of recalls and a lot of its problems were fixed for the 99-01 models so be wary of that.
Also, as many have posted before, the H22 series engines were prone to burning oil there's nothing you can do about that.

I never understood why the H22 burned mega amounts of oil. I hear numbers like topping up 1 litre of oil every 2000kms or less?

im currently topping up 5w30 of royal purple, 1L, every like..1k km lmao i know that its very thin oil so thats why im giving it to my gf and gonna be something a lot thicker. But ya its crayyyy the amount im currently burning..like there's gotta be something wrong lol

thx for the responses, decided not to make the deal.
It's not exactly what I'm looking for after doing more research on them.
