Hello Everyone, I am just wondering if anyone here have or had a job that was a Lube tech. If you did can you please give a brief description what your daily routine was as well as what places in Vancouver or Burnaby actually hire lube technicians.

You get minimum wage to change oil all day. If you know what a lube tech is then you have an idea.

at a dealership, typically, you do everything in the shop that doesn't require a technicians expertise...

installing accessories (window visors, hood deflectors, etc)
change light bulbs
oil changes
replace wipers
replace engine air/cabin filters
tire rotations
tire repairs (possibly)
tire mounting and balancing (possibly)

general lot duties (take out garbage, park cars, etc)

lube techs that show willingness to learn/work hard and cooperate often times get promoted from within the company...

^ pretty much this. + check brakes, tire pressure, do battery tests, check all other fluids.

Depends where you go. I worked at a Dodge dealer, did oil services (pretty much only oil changes) and most of the tire changes. Worked at a Toyota dealer, and it was a quick lube, so I had my own bay, and only did oil changes, all day. Either way it sucks and gets boring. Get on with a dealer if you actually want an apprenticeship, don't bother with the quick lube places. You won't learn fuck all.

I worked briefly at Mr.Lube between other things and there was one focus from the entire organization: sell shit.

That's it. It was a horrible, horrible place to work. I hated it.

One guy sent a car out without oil, and still got whatever bonus/commission we got because his sales were decent as he lied to people.

^^ I worked at a mr lube many years ago. I sucked at it because I was honest instead of a salesman. If their air filter could last then til the next oil change, that's exactly what I told them. Whereas my manager would flip out because I should be telling them they need one now. I was not willing to lie.

So I worked below the bays as a tech. Doing all the checks and filters and trans services and fuel filters. It gets boring and painful when you actually know stuff about cars and no one else does. It was good work experience and I learned alot about myself while working there.

If you can, skip the quick lube franchises. If you can't get hired at a dealership, try and check out the smaller mom and pop shops around town. Great work and customer experience and you'll learn integrity

Should try applying lube tech @ North Shore Kia. They will hire you for sure! As long as you are willing to wash cars and do all lube tech work. :)

Your duties:
-Wash cars
-House Keeping
-Oil Change
-Tire Mount/Balance/Repair
-Detailing
-All the stuff narfy listed

Lastly...
-Bullshits

Other than that if you not as unlucky like me, lube tech can be a pretty chill job depending where you work. I have friends working @JP Hyundai, @PacificHonda, @CoastalFord and they all seem to be having a blast cause they don't have to do bullshit lol

Don't do it! People end up quitting because they feel guilty trying to force sell services.
