bored so i'm gonna post a Timpo 99% picture thread. I've noticed how 'recently' announced midsize family sedans are looking so sporty and comparable to $50K cars from just a generation ago.

The impala was so long over due for a refresh it was getting ridiculous -- I'd literally spend half my day being asked "What year is this thing?" when customers got into a 2012 impala. Such a POS

^ true.
and they drive like shit too...so bouncy and noisy and gutless. The 2014's however are pretty nice to drive...but only time can tell how good they last.

Slightly off topic:
Was SUPER excited to see the new interiors in the 2015 GM SUV's......ended up just as disappointed as I was with the previous gen. :(.

Seriously what's up with GM and Chevy? Ford up'd their interior game half a decade ago. How hard is it to update your shit.
I was just thinking the same thing. The new Accord is actually pretty for an appliance. Mazda 6 looks decent as well.
Dat tacky blue lcd display text, the colour of domestic cars.

Let's not forget about Hyundai/Kia. Peter Schreyer has been doing great things since he was brought aboard.

I had in mind cars designed in the last 12 months or else the Genesis would've definitely made the list.
Optima is a great modern-looking car and lightyears ahead of its predecessors but it still doesn't seem upscale to me like the Mazda 6 for example.

Yeah, the designs are great and all but what about fit and finish and quality of materials used? That's where most cars have always lacked; except the ones that last more than 5 years without becoming disposable junk.

Saw a pearl white Mazda 6 GT the other day with the front lip on it and it is a great looking car the front and front quarters view. I have no need for something so large but if I were it'd be hard to pass it up (the almond leather is fantastic too).

to each their own...i think the looks of the new mazda 6 is less than stellar against the other sedans (tied with the accord)...i like the looks of the optima better...
mazda 6 is so so so nice....
The Optima is definitely interesting to look at for a car of its class, but the design is a bit polarizing. I can see it becoming dated faster than some of the more traditionally designed, conservative competitors. The side vents are pretty gaudy as well..

The Acura TL is an amazing car imo for the price
granted it probably shouldnt be compared in the $30k sedans since it starts at $39,950

Yup, read somewhere that says it's gonna be a bit of a delay before it goes on sale (didn't go into details)
About "haven't seen that many on the road", I think it's because of Mazda's depreciation?

this is good news to people who like to save and buy second hand!
Bump..renderings for the next Genesis sedan..and it's a looker. Like, seriously slick.
2015 Hyundai Genesis: This Is It (http://jalopnik.com/2015-hyundai-genesis-this-is-it-1451467663)
I think more cars are being designed for aerodynamics (fuel economy), hence the sporty appearance.
The Impala certainly looks sporty and can move under its own weight but it's a highway passer at it's best. Nothing more. It's still a chunky sedan built for American bums (gluteus maximus, not hobos).
Today, I got passed by the latest gen Jag XJ. Don't see many at all on the streets but they look gorgeous in person.
I can't stand cars that look heavy. For example, the current generation TL. That thing looks really heavy. It may be nimble (which I doubt) and quick, but it looks so slow and heavy. The look does not inspire sportiness. It resembles obesity.
Another perfect example, the last gen Accord coupe. Look at that fat heavy ass it has. Ugh.
http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/thumb/d/d4/2006_Accord_Coupe.JPG/800px-2006_Accord_Coupe.JPG
I imagine this car must have massive body roll with that hideous hunchback backend. You know those old ass stretch Cadillacs or Buicks? The ones that are like 67 feet long, and lean to one side during turns.
http://www.buicks.net/show_and_shine/78Tank/AngleFrontPass.jpg
The cleaner bodylines with less side mouldings etc makes the car look larger

No different from fashion trends if you think about it.
Keeping a clean, conservative design will stand the test of time (Lexus). Knock it on release for being boring but 20 years later, people will know. I can't imagine people will know (or care) what a Veloster was in 20 years.
Yup. Some car designs are pretty timeless. Other car designs take advantage of current trends to make a quick impact. Manufacturers don't care about the used car market very much, after all.

My buddy has one and it is nimble and fast but that maybe because I was expecting slow and sluggish for as you say it looks heavy. its pretty surprising especially when you put it in "sport" mode

Mazda is definitely the nicer of the bunch. If it were any of the choices, I'd probably get the 6!

Yup. Was suppose to be showing up at dealers this fall but there were issues so they're delayed until Summer 2014 AFAIK

I agree the new genesis sedan is a really slick looking vehicle. It doesn't belong matched up against these other cars. It's going to be in the high 40's.

If just comparing by looks, I'd definitely get the mazda 6. But if the honda accord sport with the 18 inch wheels and rear spoiler is 2k cheaper then M6, I'd get the accord cuz it's pretty good looking as well.
Mazda still offers traditional auto trans, honda only offers cvt now, no thanks to the CVT. If I were to get the honda, definitely the manual.

Oh I got you.
Apparently the gen sedan is listed at 39,999 msrp right now. Be it the older model not this new model.
Maybe it is a 30k sedan

A lot of nice looking cars at the $30k price point and surprisingly a lot these cars have tons of options which in the past $30k would never be equipped with.

A lot of the cars listed here would peak $40 000 quite quickly.
For that money on the used market you could snag a W212 Mercedes E class with anywhere from 40-60000km.
Thats how I always look at it. Thats why I always end up moving to the used market...:okay:
I do agree that there are some very nice looking family sedans coming out now though. I love the accord and the mazda 6, and I have always liked the TL's...

because even entry level cars these days have a lot of bells and whistles...corolla has start button and backup camera...something that isn't common in North American variants
one day even a Ford Fiesta will have blind spot system and parking assist
One car I would like to add because it's considered entry level yet has the room of a midsize and fits within the price range.

One reason why I'm amused that companies like Mercedes still charge to have bi-xenon lights installed in their cars. It comes stock in a $25,000 Mazda 3 GT, so why not a luxury car? :lol
