a shame for him to pass at 66... his books about war and political turmoil are awesome.
My favorite being "Red Storm Rising"
Tom Clancy, bestselling novelist, dies at 66
Author of Jack Ryan tales including The Hunt for Red October, Patriot Games
Bestselling novelist Tom Clancy has died in a hospital in Baltimore on Tuesday.
The American author, 66, was best known for his hit spy and military-themed thrillers set during and after the Cold War.
Among his most famous stories were his Jack Ryan tales, which include The Hunt for Red October, Patriot Games and Clear and Present Danger.
Maryland-based Clancy extended his appeal into a new generation with his work crafting stories for video games, including blockbuster franchises like Splinter Cell.
In the mid-1990s, he helped found Red Storm Entertainment, which released games — some based on his books, others on original ideas. Red Storm was later purchased by gaming giant Ubisoft, which continues to create games under the Clancy moniker.

Why does this look like "Jack Ryan does Jason Bourne"? Oh yeah... "Based on characters created by Tom Clancy". So it's not an actual Clancy story?

No, it's supposedly not from any of his novels.
I wonder if it's supposed to be Jack Ryan Jr. instead.

yeah i thought the trailer was a bit :crazy2:
here's the wiki
Jack Ryan: Shadow Recruit is an upcoming American action-thriller film directed by Kenneth Branagh, based on the character of Jack Ryan created by Tom Clancy. It is the fifth film in the Jack Ryan film series and is also a reboot that departs from the previous installments. Unlike the previous films in the franchise, it is not an adaptation of a particular Tom Clancy novel but instead an original story initially conceived by screenwriter Hossein Amini featuring the Jack Ryan character. The film stars Chris Pine in the title role, becoming the fourth actor to assume the role, following Alec Baldwin, Harrison Ford, and Ben Affleck. It is scheduled for release on December 25, 2013. This movie will be dedicated to Tom Clancy, who died on October 1, 2013

I definitely hope it's not Jack Ryan meets Jason Bourne. Jack Ryan was supposed to be an Everyman type of character (albeit intelligent, straight shooter, of great moral character, etc), forced to do things because of his conscience and circumstances, not some secret agent nonsense. He killed when he had to in order to protect his family, etc but he definitely wasn't James Bond with a license to kill.
In any case, they obviously filmed most, if not all, of the movie while Tom Clancy was still alive so I wonder what level of say he had in the movie's plot, characters, etc. Quite a few of his books were written with other authors (Tom Clancy with _______ ) so....
