The problem with MMA is too many events and too many fighters. Too hard to keep track of it all.

People look at it wrong. The game has changed.

in the past, there would be one event every 2 months with usually a title fight every event with probably your first generation of favorite fighters on the card (remember, everyones first favorite is their most favorite, and once those fighters retire, its not as easy to get behind new fighters). Everyone would get together to watch that event, and the PPV numbers would be huge, and everyone would be talking about it for months leading up to it.

Now there is an event basically every other week, sometimes weekly. There is a huge amount of MMA/UFC available now. It has sort of crossed over into the realm of regular sports, for example, you don't watch every single hockey game for every team every night, you just watch the games/teams you can/follow.

It has definitely declined from when I used to get 15-20 people at my place every event, and 10 of them didnt even follow MMA/UFC, they were just there because it was the thing to do. But the other 5 guys, we still get together to watch the PPVs and FOX cards. We just don't usually watch the Fight Night events anymore as I don't have time to follow/care about 600+ fighters.

Maybe it's part of growing up abit too. We used to go out to a bar for most of the Canuck games, and throw a party for any reason we could come up with. That doesn't happen anymore either

Yeah it's pretty much the same for me, me and my buddies will still get together for the big fights, but for the fight nights and crappy ppv's I'll just usually read the results later unless there's a fight I really wanted to see.

Thissssssss. I get together with my bro and maybe 5 friends. Order some pizza drink some beers and enjoy the once a month big fights. When I heard all the booing for them doing grappling moves and it being "boring" I was very disappointed. If you wants to watch guys constantly punch each other, watch boxing. I love seeing all the different art styles go against each other (and yes I consider it an art form)

i appreciate the technique in MMA, i like watching grappling and submission attempts...i have to admit what i really hate though is lay and pray (example bader). that's why i love seeing bader get KTFO :fullofwin:

I completely agree with you on this, however with heavyweights that aren't near the upper limit is a different case, as I am assuming there is no need to cut weight. JDS is around 240 but I don't think he cuts weight; he's just more muscular than Cain, what's nuts is that someone who is 6ft can carry 240lbs at that pace. I saw them at the Houston Rockets locker room and the guy is Aaron Brooks' height (who is barely 6ft and is tiny for NBA standards)

Also, do they ever talk about what the optimal weight is for each weight class? The common weight cut is around 10-20lbs, but it seems to be that this amount applies to Welterweights as well as Light Heavyweights, which is interesting considering the (general) height difference.

(I'm obviously thinking too much into this LOL)

I always thought generally the more jacked, shredded the HW fighters (overeem, carwin, lesnar, JDS,Kongo) are the quicker they gas. Given they got those huge muscles which need alot of oxygen to feed them. Whereas the less jacked up HW (cormier,velasquez,browne, nog) dont seem to get tired as easily

The HW division just becomes Cain's slaughterhouse for a while, until he gets old and loses his cardio or gets clipped again... Aside from Roy Nelson I don't know of anyone else hits as hard as Junior, but the way Cain walks in on guys at the beginning of fights, it could happen. Of course, this would just lead to a rematch where the guy gets slaughtered anyway :fuckthatshit:

I think Werdum might be a better match up against Cain.

JDS has awesome boxing, but you clearly can't do shit if the guy is right up close. Werdum has a more varied striking attack (since hooking up with Rafael Cordeiro) and superior jiu-jitsu. I think that alone might make Cain a little hesitant to rush into the clinch.

the only way someone will beat either of them is if they catch them with a shot (JDS/serra) but they still get worked in the rematch. until they slow down, or someone much better at what they do comes along, they sit on top of the division.

they both have a work output that no other fighter can match for one round, let alone 5. and they stick to that game plan for the whole fight.

the way to beat cain aside from a KO is to pressure him harder than hes pressuring you. and i dont know anyone who can do that. he doesnt give you any time to set up your fight. from the opening bell hes going forward and your back will be against the cage before you have a chance to do anything about it. and if you some how circle out and move away, hes not giving you more than an arms reach of room and hes following.

Vitor is 6'0 tall so I would say he's probably 225-230 in that picture. It's crazy looking him a few fights back and now after his TRT. As someone who takes testosterone I can tell you right now that no matter how small a dose your taking it's still a huge advantage both in strength/stamina and recovery. Unless they are testing him every single day to make sure his levels are ONLY up to allowable limits there is no doubt he's doing more than recommended. I mean, why wouldn't you? You don't have to worry about pissing hot because your exempt. All you have to do is taper down so your not radioactive come test time. The pictures speak for themselves.
Also what kind of message is this sending to the fighters? Go ahead, do lots of juice when your young so it fucks up your shit when your older that way you can get an excemption and a prescription!

If you're not familiar with the Bellator/Alvarez saga check it out, it's pretty interesting.

I thought Chandler would win but Alvarez did an amazing job at being elusive for the first 3 rounds, throwing jabs and keeping away from the cage. Chandler gassed and Alvarez took over. Great fight!

If Alvarez lost, he would have been let out of his contract. Now they have a champion who doesn't want to be there, and are paying him a lot. He has one more fight on his contract, and if he wins that there is a chance he will vacate the title and leave, which makes them look bad. That's why Dana called it Karma

The first event I ever watched live on PPV was UFC43 in June 2003. Randy TKOed Chuck. Will never forget it. Watched at the local pool hall on pirated satellite and the feed kept dropping. Had watched most of the events on VHS from prior to that. I've watched all but maybe 10 PPVs live since then. And most of the UFN's up until a couple of years ago.

Cant believe it has been nearly 9 years since the original TUF. To think only Diego and Koscheck are still fighting. And I guess sort of Mike Swick.

Yeah I just watched everything on VHS until 2003 or so, IIRC, then it was torrents until TUF started.

It helped that I was really into pro wrestling, and MMA was always 1 step away from it, so I was able to follow the storylines and news. I followed Wrestling Observer, and Dave Meltzer was a big part of UFC in the early days, so he is a big reason for a lot of people crossing over, including myself.
