My gf and I are currently having a debate over what the current terminology is.

I contend that a lollipop is an umbrella term that encompasses both the spherical type, and the flat circular-shaped type. She argues however, that "suckers" are the small ones, spherical or flat, and the term lollipop is used only to describe the big flat circular ones that you would buy at the market at Granville Island for instance.

- Sucker = flat/circular, cheaper.

This is how I always thought of them growing up, maybe it's an age thing. Then again could it be a west coast thing? I know in Sask. they call Hoodies, Bunnyhugs which makes no fucking sense but that's what they call them.

Like "Scotch" tape, Lollipop is a brand name that evolved into something more.

As a kid, those cheap flat ones that we got at Halloween were called suckers by everybody.
