The people in Philippines don't need prayers, they need money.

Probably the best way to get it to them is here (http://www.caremin.com/donate) or here (http://ushare.redcross.org.ph/).

I'd rather donate directly to a reputable charity than have some of my time and money wasted on printing stickers.

Red Cross is already set up to immediately help people (they are still recovering from the earthquake, what timing right?) so the sooner they get the funds, the better.

OP's heart may be in the right place, but this should have been a post urging people to donate, and telling them how.

yep.. cause when was the last time prayers did, well, ANYTHING at all?

anyway good intentions, but if people are willing to buy a sticker that puts proceeds towards the phillipines, then they should be willing to directly donate to reputable relief funds

Not directed at the OP but common sense tip of the day is ONLY send money to reputable charities if you do want to make a donation.

I encourage everyone to donate. Especially since, the Government of Canada will match donations made by Canadians to registered charities (http://www.theglobeandmail.com/news/national/canada-pledges-up-to-5-million-in-humanitarian-aid-to-typhoon-victims/article15368879/).

FYI - although I don't doubt the legitimacy of the International Care Ministries you have linked above, they don't appear to be a registered charity (http://www.cra-arc.gc.ca/ebci/haip/srch/advancedsearchresult-eng.action?n=care+minis&b=&q=&s=registered&d=&e=+&c=&v=+&o=&z=&g=+&t=+&y=+&p=1) with the Government of Canada. As a result, any donations to this organization would not be matched by the federal government.

I highly recommend folks donate to the Red Cross.

So pretty much you're just donating twice.. First time you donate you use your money, then the government matches your donation using your money..

Or... donate half the amount and the government donates the other half. Problem solved. I never donate to religious groups as you never know how much they use to convert people rather than help them.

I was approached at a starbucks by 2 old filipino women who asked me to donate to them directly so they can help the typhoon victims.

I've been to this starbucks before, and the same 2 old women had asked me to donate to help child prostitution victims in the Philippines.

I told them I already donated to the Red Cross and they swore at me in filipino and called me a heartless jerk for enjoying starbucks coffee while millions (their words) died.

I was pretty mad lol

"using other people's misfortune, especially your own people, is incredibly low."

or.... "thank you. I don't give a shit. Have a nice day!"

from the RS resident pervert in another thread

next time you run into the ladies, say:

"yeah, sure I'll donate"

reach into your pocket and and SLOWLY rummage around in an up and down motion, all the while not breaking eye contact with them. Start breathing heavily and say:

"yeah, oh yeah...thats it...Mmmmmm...yeah...almost...almost...."

meanwhile increase the speed of your rummaging gradually and say:

"oh shit.......UNCE! Whew! Thank you ladies."

And walk away.

how are we waisting your time and money? we are not forcing you to do anything for us. if you would rather donate straight to redcross go ahead no one is stopping you. we are not here to waist anybody’s time or money.

we are giving the stickers to say that we appreciate your donation.
its a way for us to say thank you.

you’ve never donated anything to revscene when they're have there annual food bank drive?

we are not here to make money.
we are here simply because we decided to make stickers sell them and donate all the money.
if you don’t like it. then i don’t know why your here.

to op:

you have 59 posts... absolutely no real 'reputation' here on revscene... yet you get defensive when some LONG TIME members look out for some of us by mentioning 'best practices' for making donations.

i'm sure you mean well with your sticker campaign but your follow up to this thread stinks.

Also there is like 3 threads on this same item now. I get it save the Philippines, I am all for helping out and already donated as I have a lot of friends who are from the Pilipinas, but you don't see 8 threads on donating to save everyone in syria...

all jokes aside, lets not get carried away here. If i went to Auto World at metro and ask them to create me that exact same sticker, they'll charge me 10 dollars! So my point is, I'm sure hes an honest guy and if not, either way u get a sticker saying u support Philippines and u feel for their sadness.

Best way to donate (http://www.vancitybuzz.com/2013/11/please-donate-ottawa-will-match-canadians-donations-to-philippines-typhoon-relief/)

Unicef Canada (https://secure3.unicef.ca/site/Donation2?2440.donation=form1&df_id=2440&s_locale=en_CA&utm_source=unicef&utm_medium=home&utm_campaign=Haiyan) – To send emergency supplies to Filipino children affected by the disaster.
Canadian Red Cross (http://www.redcross.ca/donate/donate-online/donate-to-the-typhoon-haiyan-fund)- To help with emergency supplies.
Save the Children (https://www.savethechildren.ca/helpnow) -To help with disaster relief efforts for children and families affected. 10 per cent of donations will be put aside for the next emergency.
Global Medic Canada (https://www.canadahelps.org/dn/16571) – To help mobilize the Global Medic team with supplying Aquatabs for clean water for victims.
World Vision Canada (http://www.worldvision.ca/GIVE-A-GIFT/Pages/Philippines-Disaster-Relief.aspx)– To provide life saving essentials and emergency supplies to victims.

Iffy about how the charities use their money? Then click here (http://www.moneysense.ca/the-2013-charity-100-grades) to do some research.

You know what bugs me about the Philippines?
Why is there an 'H' after the first letter when filipinos don't even pronounce it "Filippines" .. .they pronounce it "pilippines"

OP your heart's in the right place but there's more efficient ways to collect money for the cause -- especially considering Canada's willing to match each donation dollar for dollar

Yes the first one is HK based and while religious, apparenlty won't waste all their time evangelicising. The money goes to a good cause.

The second link is Red Cross directly in PH, where they are already set up and the money will go to work fast. Both work with paypal

I give credit to the OP. The stickers carry a message and can be easily spread across if even one of us bought one. So it's not only the charitable 5$, its getting the word out. Just like the Pray for Japan stickers after the tsunami. Good luck OP!

Typhoon Haiyan: China under pressure to increase aid to Philippines after small donation - Telegraph (http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/worldnews/asia/philippines/10452792/Typhoon-Haiyan-China-under-pressure-to-increase-aid-to-Philippines-after-small-donation.html)

China is coming under increasing pressure to increase its aid to the Philippines to counter ridicule abroad at its meagre offer of help, and criticism at home that is allowing the spread of American and Japanese influence by failing to send warships.

While Washington pledged about £14 million and dispatched an aircraft carrier battle group to the worst affected areas, commentators have mocked Beijing, which runs the world’s second biggest economy, for its initial offer of a £60,000 donation.

China is locked in a bitter dispute with the Philippines over the status of a group of islands in the South China Sea.

It has since increased its offer of help to £1 million — mainly blankets and tents — but still less than the furniture store Ikea, which has donated £1.8 million to the United Nation’s children’s agency
