....and did they say.... CVT?
Set to debut at the Los Angeles Auto Show, the 2015 WRX will have a turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine while the WRX STi will have a slightly larger 2.5-liter unit. The WRX will be offered with a six-speed manual and a continuously variable transmission, while the WRX STi will be available exclusively with the DIY gearbox.

was contemplating getting one when i was car shopping.. (bought the fiat instead..)
it was indeed fast and practical (09' sport wagon.. awd for winter... seats four etc.)
although the stock car felt... dull. Didnt feel exciting like an earlier GC8... maybe it felt too refined?

The car looks good from a straight head on front view. When you look at the side and back looks like the designers felt they did a good enough job on the front and called it a day for the rest of the car. And wheels don't fill the wheel wells very well, just like the new Corolla despite better overall lines
How much power did you want from the WRX? If they bump it up much from current 265, then the STi has to go up otherwise there is overlap, which drives the cost up and fuel efficiency down, etc etc.
And for daily driving auto trannies, CVT>auto IMO. If you won't get the auto anyways, you won't care it's CVT

Here is a pic of the interior. Like seriously, is that the best Subaru can come up with? It's the same cheap azz boring interior as previous generations. The WRX is becoming the Ford Mustang of interiors. Same cheap and boring interior with different generations. Subaru should be embarrassed on releasing a product with such a half azzed interior. If it was like a 15,000 car, then I'll have no complaints. Just on the interior alone, I'm going to pass on this car.

I actually like the front end of this new platform...i agree that a larger version as Legacy would look pretty good
^I agree, you guys are asking for so much, haha.
The impreza has always been a fairly basic no frills compact sedan. The WRX is based off of that, and obviously they will share most components to save on costs. The WRX and STi have always been oriented to the performance crowd with their drivetrain, nobody's ever bought an STi because it has a pimp interior (and arguably because it has an awesome exterior)!
Don't really get what's wrong with that interior. It's nice and simple. Not clustered, everything is where it should be. It's not "beautiful" by any means, but it's def not an "embarrassment". What's with all the people bitching about the lack of power? Aren't these like the easiest cars to mod to get some extra power? This isn't even the STI version. Jesus fuck you can't please ANYONE these days. Go build your own fucking car..

I would rather have a traditional slush box or a dual clutch set up. Something about that much horsepower and a belt sketches me out.
I have a feeling someone is going to quote this post and show some example of an 1100hp dumptruck or tank that uses one. It still sketches me out for the application of a daily driver.

I'd rather have a 4A than a CVT, but that's just me. I've had too many terrible experiences with CVT transmissions that I simply cannot stand anything that has a CVT aside from a hybrid or an EV, the only two places a CVT makes sense in my opinion.

Bumping dis shet cause I'm looking to buy a '16 WRX next year. For those who own one, what are your thoughts so far? Sat in one (didnt drive) and I would say that I kind of like the interior since it has a handful of soft touch parts such as the dash and using top notch cloth materials as found in the FRS. Currently interested in the sport as it has the amenities that I am looking for such as sunroof/LED boomerang lights/led mirror signals and an easy to navigate center console

For someone who has sold many of these things I have to say its one of the best cars in its class. The power is perfect the new nav interface is so easy to use and now they changed those ugly wheels the whole care looks more aggressive. The use of sport sharp really brings the car together and I actually prefer the WRX lip wing better then the STi this gen. Oh and the Auto drives amazing....there, I said it. Every car I have owned has been a manual too

^ WRX auto does. I agree CVT drives amazing as much as I love the 6MT.
I drive em on a pretty regular basis at work and its definitely one of the best bangs for your buck. It doesn't have the solid tank/euro type feeling (ie. when closing door) but as a cheapish and fast car it still has a bit of luxury. There are some cheap parts in the interior (glovebox, center console box) that feel flimsy but im sure when you put your foot down that can be forgiven.

I have a 2015 and love it, absolutely a blast to drive. IMO much better than the Lancer Ralliart in terms of response and handling.
For 2016, they have the new touchscreen Infotainment system on all trims. Sport-Tech adds a wider screen and navi so not sure what you meant by easier to navigate center console on the Sport trim. My gf has the 2015 Outback which has the same infotainment system, while it is faster and more responsive, it is kind of glitchy and freezes sometimes.

Putting my flame suit on for this one...If I wasn't to go hatch I would take a 15 WRX over a 14 STi for a DD....I 'might' even get said WRX in the linear-tronic CVT. People can comment on that all they want but until you actually drive one and compare back to back you will never understand. The new FA20DIT actually rips. Second gear in the manual pulls really strong and the CVT will hold the revs at full boost and doesn't shift so there is no lag its just nonstop torque. Driving around town the suspension is softer compared to a STi and is a little easier to live with if this is a daily. CVT being linear-tronic has simulated shift points so it feels more natural in normal driving. I really wish they would have just put the FA20DIT in the BRZ
Motor trend has the '15 STi and WRX at 0.8sec difference in the 1/4 mile

I have a 15 WRX and coming from an 04 TL, this thing is so much more fun to drive.
Doesn't take 40 years to get to 60km/h, lol.
The power as soon as the boost kicks in puts a smile on my face every time I drive. And it's always fun hearing the turbo spooling. Hnnngg.
I only got the base package because to me the sunroof was the only thing I'd be missing out on.
I am jealous that the 2016's get touchscreens as a standard feature though
