I just purchased a 6D over the weekend and wanted to see what you guys/girls recommend for a memory card.

Im just shooting my daughters and perhaps landscape shots...just personal stuff. I just want the ability to shoot in RAW as well in case I decide to enlarge any images taken.

I thought Id ask today in case there are any cyber monday deals out on cards today.

If you are not a serious photographer and just want something good and reliable, then there are a lot of 16gb class 10's on sale for <15.

I would just get 2 of them so that you can always have a backup when you travel.

Sandisk is always a good choice. I'd go larger than 16GB if you're planning on shooting RAW or in case you want to do some video.

I have said camera paired with 2 sets of cards.

If you don't mind paying extra, I have 2 Lexar 600x Professional SD cards.

I recently bought a pair of these on a whim, and they've been just as good as my Lexars at a fraction of the cost:

I recently rang up 600 shots on these things photographing some drop-in hockey. No buffer issues at all. And PNY may be an "off" brand to most, but my old PNY CF cards lasted the life of my camera, so I had no issues getting them again.

16gb is plenty of space for RAWs. I have about 300 shots to play with, and it reduces the risk of lost photos due to corruption if you rotate smaller cards around.

And lastly, if you want to take advantage of the card's full potential when transferring to a computer, get a USB 3.0 reader. I got this one in the same order as the 2 cards:

I picked up some cheap Lexar 16GB cards not too long ago. It's the good and black package and it's the 400x speed.

Works well in my M9 and as a spare card in my 5D3. I find the 16GB is a good size as it gets me approximately 400 full size raw files on my 5D3.

I usually trust Sandisk or Lexar for memory cards. Never had any issues with either brand. :)

Uhh I think a 64GB class 10 sandisk was on sale for like $35.

At that point why bother with anything less than 32GB?

I would grab two 32GB cars, gives you plenty of room, as well as the flexibility of two different cards.

I shoot with 32gb cards.
Keep in mind I'm using a crop sensor (T4i) and a 32gb cars will fill up fast if you shoot RAW+JPG.

I also swap cards often so that if one becomes corrupted or damaged its not a complete loss. I rotate through 6 or 7 cards on this camera.

If its just for some small things then no need to invest in cards but if you plan on getting out there and using the camera a lot then I could look into getting a few cards.

And travelling. You don't want to put all your eggs in one basket. If you lose the card (to theft or corruption) you're hooped. If you rotate through cards (and those of you who say it's inconvenient, it takes all 10 seconds), you lower that risk significantly. Even if you lose one card, you'll still have shots from the same areas on the different cards. It just depends on how much you value the data.

And sometimes Class 10 cards are not enough. Normal class 10 guarantees 10MB/s write speed. With RAW files upwards of 20MBs nowadays, any burst will fill the buffer and cause your camera to basically stop working until it clears. UHS-1 cards are not for everyone, and if you take a picture every few seconds and aren't bursting, then a plain-jane class 10 is sufficient (and cheap!)

Those UHS-1 prices are pretty good. I'd be willing to bet that you can't find a better deal locally.

managed to grab 2 of the 16gb 80mb/s cards for $25

Morgan Crossing FS only had 1 and i got the other online from BB, tried to go price match at london drugs but they only carried the older 40mb/s ultra's

seemingly high demand, i guess the price was right

I don't think I've seen a better price locally. Leave it to BB and FS to provide the best local options.

I got my PNY 16GB 90mb/s for ~20 after tax and exchange. That's not including the drive and package fee from 24/7.

So I'd call this a pretty darn good deal.
