Anyone get or give anything they were super stoked about this Christmas?
I got a Nikon d5200 from my Mom as a total surprise. Got my grandparents a dinner and drinks at the restaurant I cook at, and a Michael Kors purse for my mom and took my wife for a night at fairmont banff springs last weekend for a friends wedding.

Good christmas, although working 13 hours a day dealing with endless parties has sucked. Nice to have a short visit with family. Anyone else have a good haul/good time/do something awesome for someone?

Loved all my gifts this year but the Mr got me a battery JUICE pack for my phone which was a godsend. I'm constantly on my phone for work so by 6pm my phone is at 30% after a full nights charge. If I have to stay late or head out after work I'm probably at 3% on the drive home. Such a simple gift but it is so useful and a thoughtful gift especially since he's a starving student on a tight budget. (Thank you yamsies)

This is probably not the thread for it, but I am truly starting to realize the joy in having a happy and healthy family.
I have seen so many people unexpectedly leave the world over the past year, that the value of having everyone be there at Christmas is something that I really took the time to absorb this year.
As much as I love the newest gadgets or gift of the moment, very few of those items will be as timeless compared to the memory of being with the people you love.
Hopefully you all had a happy, healthy and loving holiday.

We don't do gifts in our house for each other (wife and I). We did buy a ton of stuff for my son, he had a great time and was very happy so in turn I was happy. Very nice Christmas, didn't end up going out like planned, skipped turkey for BBQ and all and all was a great day.
Was my first Christmas without my immediate family, haven't seen my parents in a year and honestly it was kind of nice just keeping it small this year.

I received and gifted Cash.
Easy. It's been a family tradition for a little while now. The only person that gets an actual gift is my mom. This year it was a Coach bag, plane ticket + Spending money, and a few hundred dollars for Boxing day.

pair or runners , fleece throw, scarf.
the older you get you realize actual presents mean nothing and that spending time is everything. also, that the holidays are very chaotic and everyone needs to hit the slow-mo button.

Gave my dad some long underwear, and my mom some socks for skiing. My brother and I then pitched in for Surface tablet for them to replace the 5 year old POS HP laptop they've been using. For friends, got a hockey stick, hockey gloves, lanyard, air fresheners for car, and gave an alcohol starting kit for a secret santa with our group of friends. LOL. Oh, and got the brother new headphones to replace his old and breaking ones,
Got cash, boxers, Microsoft munnies, Assassin's creed 4, xbox live for a year, another lanyard to add to my stupid collection, some shirts, an RC car, and another pair of Oakley glasses for another stupid collection lol.

Not exactly a christmas gift, but a week ago I came back from a 21 day mediterranean cruise. I think the experiences and insight about the other side of the world is as precious as any gift we can get.
just spending time with the wife and the son.

From that video it's being sold by thinkgeek.com
I almost ordered one from there but $47 USD shipped from the states with 2-3 weeks delivery (cheapest delivery option) was a turn off.
Then I found the manufacturer from the comments in that video for $42.09 CDN shipped from Calgary estimated delivery Jan 2 (cheapest delivery option).

All the presents I bought were practical ones :)
Electric pencil sharpener for the kids, Contigo traveler mugs, and a top notch Panasonic water boiler.
It may sound boring but I got the reaction I was seeking simply by buying exactly what they needed (without any hints btw). What's more important is that I am loved and appreciated by those I spent xmas with :D
got myself some cf side skirts :alonehappy:

Good job! despite the problem of heartless human beings giving pets away as gifts, I always think the holidays is a great time to introduce a pet to the family, since most people have a few days off to socialize with the new animal and tons of visitors!

One of the main reasons why I got him, got to spend the last 4 days with him. Today is his first day at home with no one(hopefully he doesn't cause any problems :P), gonna spend the next few months training, but the dog is pretty well trained already.

Nice! I love the idea of adopting for the holidays, as the norm is to surprise someone with a puppy from a kijiji breeder and have the poor pup end up in the shelter by August when they are fully grown and untrained.

Yeah, Arcteryx has a good repair policy. They fixed a tear in one of my soft shell jackets a while back for pretty cheap. The wrecked jacket wasn't an Arcteryx however. It was just a basic jacket I've had for something like fifteen years. Figured it was time to upgrade lol

One thing about parenting......... No course or manual will ever prepare you for parenting. It's like earthquake preparedness. BTW, when I mentioned over protective, I meant watching over them like a hawk when at parks, parking lots, playgrounds, shopping malls, crossing the street, etc. I nearly died when I lost my daughter at Willowbrook Mall. I was careless. Don't take anything for granted.
