A Saskatoon man who spotted his stolen car while riding to work by taxi succeeded in helping police get it back Sunday.
It started at 6:40 a.m. CST in the 1000 block of Matheson Drive, when a man called police saying his car had just been stolen. He'd left it running and unlocked.
The owner then took a taxi to work. On the way, however, he spotted the stolen car being driven on Circle Drive.
The cabbie called police and then kept the stolen car in sight while police responded. The driver of the stolen car led police on a chase through the Stonebridge area and then into the city's east side.
The occupants eventually abandoned the car and took off on foot. Police used dogs to track the suspects and were able to apprehend them.
Two women, aged 17 and 19, will be in court this morning facing a variety of charges.

That's the lowest of the lowest kind of scum right there. Everyone leaves their cars running out here, hell I left my Toyota running for 2 hours when I was at the bar the other night.
To be fair, if you don't have a remote starter or keyless go, you cant lock your doors. Unless you have a second set I guess. I would never do this if I couldn't lock my doors. That is just a car begging to be stolen. In fact if I saw this I would think it was a bait car or something because it is such an easy target...
I do however do this in my car, since I can start the car with the iKey then lock the doors and walk away with the key in my pocket. Still not a brilliant plan, because all it take is one person to smash the window and hop in and drive away. I usually keep a very close eye on my car when doing this.

Two things wrong with this:
1. I hope you didn't drink.
2. Why didn't you shut it off for 1:50, and then start it again 10 minutes before you left. I mean I don't give a fuck, I work in oil and gas so you are just helping me out, but it just seems stupid...
And before you come back with something stupid like "you don't know how cold it is out here, everybody does it" or something retarded like that. Save it, I worked in Ft. Mac, the Yukon, NWT, and all over BC. Nobody semi intelligent leaves a car running for two hours while they eat a meal. Maybe for like 15-20 minutes if they are just popping into walmart.
No I wasn't drinking. I thought I was just going to be going in and out, turns out I hung out for a while.
The Toyota is nice because I can take the key out and it still keeps running (goodluck to anyone who hasn't driven a 4cyl Truck with 35's to not stall it the first try.
I was just stating one instance where I had done it, I 99.9999% only leave it running for 10-15 minutes if i'm running inside to grab something. The Dodge is nice because I just set the turbo timer for 15 minutes and good to go.
As soon as I saw "Saskatoon" and "chase" I thought of this:
Good to hear he got his vehicle recovered.

The ignition in my old Celica is so worn that you can take the key out while it's running, it works great cause I can then lock the door and to anyone who may be looking at stealing it, since there's no key present it looks like it has remote start (so the column would still be locked).

LOL!! My Corolla's ignition barrel is so fucked I also do the same. But in Edmonton.
I've seen people leave their car running while gassing up.
Also, a co-worker told me that back before out door plug ins, people would be leaving their cars running for HOURS because if they turned it off, it wouldn't turn back on later.
seen that at gas stations before too. they usually get all pissy when the pump doesn't work and they're told to shut off the car before it will get turned on (similar to putting out a cigarette). i've heard the "car won't start if i turn it off" excuse too while gassing up
