Anybody here serious (or at least somewhat serious lol) about poker?
Figured there must be at least a few grinders on here..
I play mostly at villa, edgewater, and sometimes boulevard.
Always nice to have someone to run ideas by and go for the occasional breath of fresh air with :fullofwin:

I've always liked starlight even though haven't been playing there lately.
The few times that the bad beat was getting really high it was good action, how have the games there been lately with the new "Super Beat"?

Only recently moved to Van and have thus far been busy with work, but I played alot before moving here. Before moving here I was in Texas for 6 years and played in weekly 1-3NL/PLO games and made yearly poker trips to Vegas. Before that I lived and played in Alberta...mostly in Edmonton at the Casino Edmonton and Yellowhead...and at Cash Casino in Calgary (won my first 100 plyer+ tourney there! Dingy and dirty there but good memories!)

I play probably 20-30 hours a month, Cascades, Fraser Downs and Boulevard. Been playing that much or more since back when the River Rock first got poker. I consider it a relaxing hobby for the most part, I do alright but I'm not getting rich playing poker. I win a little more then I lose over a year but I honestly play because I enjoy it a lot.

Anyone remember what the first no limit game spread at River Rock was? It was a 3/6 NL game with a max buyin of $200.00. I don't even remember what year that was maybe 8 or 9 years ago? I really don't remember.

I didn't think anyone would prefer starlight, maybe it's just me and I'm biased but that poker room is terrible for so many reasons. The obvious one is there is no players but beyond that the atmosphere for a poker room just sucks. I'm sure you have your reasons for liking it and not knocking that, but not my cup of tea.

- Don't act out of turn.
- Don't involve yourself in other peoples bullshit, avoid having an opinion unless you're in the hand.
- If you're playing small buyin tournaments at the casino don't be afraid to gamble, blinds go up really quick.

I used to play a lot at all the casino but since 2 of my friends are banned for abit. I now play cash home game with a bunch of friends.
My favorite tourny was the CHOP tournament, never ever a boring tournament to play in.
I actually don't like the super bad beat at all. obviously the jackpot increases but way fewer winnners

I've never even seen a poker room in a Casino before.

I'm thinking I want to try it out. Are there any rules one should be aware of? ie. if I buy in with $50, can I leave whenever I want. Say I win $50 in 15-20mins, am I allowed to get up and leave?

^unless you're playing in a tourney, you can cash-out whenever you want.

you can play one hand and leave if you wish if its not a tournament. I've done it before lol

^^

You can do whatever you want but just so you're aware as a new player that is really bad poker etiquette. At the end of the day you can do what you want within the rules but it's frowned upon like asking to see the losing hand, you can do it but depending on the circumstances it can be dick a move which might be your attempt depending on the dynamics of the table. Saying all that if someone is being a prick I may or may not have in the past done certain things to get under their skin including asking to see losing hands.

Lol, hit and run.

I used to play daily, so I would never do that (unless I wanted to piss someone off) cause I'd see the same people all the time. Normally I'd announce last round or 2 or say I'm leaving by a certain time.

I wish there was more angling at local casinos though and unlimited straddles.

+1 to the atmosphere no denying that it can be very depressing at times... but the room does have its days as far as soft games and gambly players mainly at times when the bad beat is high tho

No one likes the notorious hit and runner :fuckthatshit:
But as for the unlimited straddles haven't come across this at other poker rooms but theres been a few times where I was at edgewater with a table full of regulars every orbit for a while went sb, bb, straddle, double straddle (or "blind raise") to 15

Yeah, nothing locally but I've seen it in Vegas.

Best we've ever done at a house game was get it all the way to the button @ $128 live. :lawl:

I play online everyday, 3-4 times a week in Poker Room (edge and rr mainly) grind 1/2 usually.

When home games are around, I always go :) and in Macau I play 7/14 since thats their action game!

I am not that big of a fan of online; not a big fan of non-interaction.

I play .25/.50 zoom, holdem, omaha and sometimes normal 1/2 on pokerstars.

I play a bunch of sit-and-go's and when I have time the bigger tournaments!

I have played a $8 satellite and turned it into few thousand before, but I do pretty well on the sit-and-go and just win a bit each time!

be polite, talk to other people once in a while and smile at the older folks, they want to have fun (most of them do)

tip waitresses when ordering food IF they serve you, if its pick up, fuckthatshit lol. I felt bad once for not tipping because the food came when i was final table and it was a HUGE hand LOL

bring some music if you are bored/tired

personally i find poker is dying because the boom is fading away, especially online since the tournies weren't as big as before (2011 and back) based on the US shutting down online gaming lol.....

which sites do you guys play on for online cash games? I don't know about Pokerstars... something seems fishy with them. I played on there for about a month and saw more 4 of a kind hands than I have in my entire life of playing. I got two 4 of a kind hands in a row once... Something about that just doesn't seem right.
