VANCOUVER - Vancouver police are investigating a disturbing smartphone video of an incident on the Granville Strip where a man appears to pay another man cash to kick him in the groin while a rowdy closing-time crowd howls and cheers.

The man then chased after the victim and took back the $40, according to bystanders.

Sgt. Randy Fincham said officers were not called out to the scene in the Granville Street Entertainment District Sunday evening for that particular incident, but added that police are taking the contents of the video seriously and it will be reviewed by investigators.

"The video is very disturbing. We have referred the incident to an investigative team for review," Fincham said, in an email.

In the video, a man repeatedly tries to kick another man in the groin while asking him if he "wants his f — ing money." Then a second man steps forward and says, "I'll do it," and the heavy-set assailant does the same to the next man.

After several attempts, a heavy blow hits the man square in the groin. As the victim reels backward from the punt, the assailant can be seen chasing the victim across Granville Street, where he falls to the ground. Then the video cuts out.

Jens Petersen, who told The Sun he knew the victim, was standing near The Roxy when the commotion began on the sidewalk in front of the popular nightclub.

Petersen said the assailant had paid the victim $40 to kick him. But after he chased and caught up with the fleeing victim, the assailant took back the money.

Riley Speers, who posted footage of the incident to YouTube, told The Sun it all took place around 3 a.m. when the clubs let out.

Speers said he did not believe the assailant came out of The Roxy, but rather approached the area alone from somewhere down Granville Street. He said he thought the man did take back the money he paid before he left the area.

Several other people witnessed the victims receive kicks. Many people laughed while some shot video with their smartphones. Their howling continues as the man chases the victim down the street.

The anonymous person who sent the video to The Sun said he was horrified by what happened and he hoped the police would investigate the incident as an assault.

The video may be difficult for some people to watch.

That's exactly what it is. Seen the guy before, most of the time hes in the back alley shooting up.
He goes up to people and asks for money, when they say no he says ok give me money and you can kick me in the balls.....this "mentally ill" person is that way by choice.
I volunteered a a soup kitchen in downtown and have seen him before, talked to him before. He use to have a house, wife, kids and he didn't want to give up the party life, got in over his head and now is a full blown addict.

Sad state he is in but he ASKS for people to do this.

I know this guy. About 2 years ago he pestered us outside some club on Granville begging us to pay him for a groin kick. We said no for like 10 minutes but finally caved in. We pooled like $160 between us and my friend let 'er rip. He seemed nearly un-phased by it like he didn't have genitals at all. We chilled with him afterwards and had a smoke then parted ways. Although it would seem like a super cruel thing to do but honestly it ended like a satisfied business transaction for both parties. Later on everyone was like "post that shit on FB, it's hilarious". I'm like "fcuk that, you'll get charged with assualt y0!"

Didn't watch the full video when i posted but the guy at the start was clearly not a victim at the start but a willing participant and it's clearly not the first time he has done this. Also Steve o has hit a number of people n the groin.

Reminds me of this time (about a year ago) my girlfriend was selling her shoes on craigslist/list4all.
This man offered to pay her more to buy her shoes but the catch is that she have to wear them and kick him in the groin.
My girlfriend agreed and asked me to go along with her for safety.
I must say I was skeptical about all that, but to my surprise it was the darnest thing I had ever seen.
We met up at metropolis and we went downstairs to the secluded parking lot.
The person seemed like an ordinary white man maybe in his 40s.
He brought a groin cup with him along and he wanted to film it with his iphone.
He had trouble filming it while getting kicked in the groin so he asked me to do it with his phone. (I didn't film the face on purpose)
My gf's kicks were so weak and I wanted to do it for her.
At the end of it all he tried to walk away with the shoes pretending he forgot to pay, but my gf stopped him and he paid up.

Lol living on the streets is a choice my friend. Whatever their background is that led them to living on the streets it is their choice. UNLESS they are mentally ill. People choose to stay addicted to drugs, refuse to get a job. You have no idea how many people abuse the welfare system. Vancouver isn't a cheap city to live in, but if immigrants working two minimum wage jobs to support their families can do it, there really is no excuse for anyone else.
