House of Cards
Holy shit second season first episode!
So for those of you that haven't seen or watched it, it's a political drama/series from netflix. Absolutely mind blowing in terms of writing and characters.

This isn't a normal show with normal times. Please avoid spoilers indefinitely. I would give it a reasonable (1-2 months) before discussing the series in its entirety. I don't think its too much to ask to use spoiler tags for awhile.
That being said, if you read the House of Cards thread without watching the show first, well, that's your own fault.

**do not read unless ALL done season2**
fuck. i really liked doug.... realistically frank would die without his right hand, but im sure the writers will promote seth or something...
also kinda disappointed about claire's character development, she's gotten weak... and same goes with remy
also, the meechum 3some... the fck? super messed up, but these twists and sub-storylines are why this shows so damn good lol

With the amount of grunt work Doug is doing, he was headed down that path anyway =( Poor dude, he was a super good soldier for Frank
I really thought Frank's character this season was a bit less calculating, more reckless and emotional.
I think we all saw that 3 some happen lol. Frank's a deviant and he's been eyeing that boy since s1!

The Meechum thing surprised me too. I mean, it really shouldn't...pretty much everyone in this show has to have some sort of weird sex thing. That and there were some gay/bisexual hints from Frank in season 1. I was wondering what the president's was. He was really worried about SOMETHING getting out from the therapist.
Poor Doug.
And hell yeah, Frank. That was masterful.

02-20-2014, 09:09 PM
I think the threesome for Frank and Claire was just another way to display their pure pragmatism. It was strictly a thing for pleasure and taken to the extreme, pleasure seeking transcends gender. They mentioned that they couldn't risk reaching out to someone else. Meechum was someone they both trusted completely so it made sense in that way.
But LOL poor Doug... I'm pretty sure he wasn't trying to kill her either.

Hey guys,
I just watched the very first episode of House of Cards. Season 1 Episode 1.
For those who don't recall, it was when the Chief of Staff does not get promoted to the Secretary of State and he gives the first draft of the Education reform bill to Zoie. She prints it in the newspaper.
What's significant about her printing it in the newspaper? Does that screw over the president?
Nlkko
02-23-2014, 09:57 AM
Anything is classified. The paper is not supposed to know classified info before it's made public.
Also finished season 2. Dat duo Francis and Claire! Claire could easily be president in her own right she has the political iron hand.

final scene of s2 was fucking epic
I'm on Chapter 20 or so...
It kind of annoys me, every time it seems like Frank and Claire are gonna have sex, or any time or romantic relationship, nothing happens. Like do they ever do it together? Or is it just their thing to keep sex outside of their marriage?
Please don't spoil the story for me, but i'm just wondering if others were feeling the same way I am.
Just added this show to my lineup, liking it so far. Going to watch episode 7 in a bit

Just finished last night...
I was expecting a bombshell in the last episode, kinda unsatisfying to see it roll out just as Francis planned it... Pretty underhanded to whip votes for impeachment right after he told the prez he would whip votes for support. Not unexpected though.
Wondering what happens to Doug now and the hacker (aka McPoyle twin), I hope he plays a bigger part in S3 to stir up some controversy.

Okay...so I just thought of something.
So Frank's president now. Now what? Basically this entire show has been his rise to power but where does it go now that he's at the top? How can he be..."evil" now? He doesn't give a shit who he hurts along the way but he's always had American interests in mind.

His downfall, maybe? Tying up all the remaining loose ends, or having those loose ends bite him back in the ass. It might end up being Breaking Bad-esque-ish

Although this what I guess what the most likely scenario would be, a part of me inside hopes not.
I'd love to see Frank Underwood stay in power and go toe-to-toe with other heads of state that's just as ruthless, conniving and devious as he is. Like the series' version of Vladimir Putin or etc.
I'd love to see the primary stage of the politics and stakes go international and not just domestic.

just finished it
did I forget what happened the last 2 seasons or something?
seems like this season turned into a soap opera about boy-girl trouble and the politics, scheming, wheeling and dealing, took the back seat <<it's still there mind you but the relationships took a step up (not just Underwood's but everybody's)
only read if u've watched it all
i don't give a crap about Remy and that ladies relationship...their characters, especially Remy's, didn't need to be explored at all, and Remy should have been written out a lot sooner...
a lot of the characters felt like time wasters more than anything
thomas yates (guy from boardwalk empire), his character started off pretty good but then it fell apart with almost a 'wtf? is going on?'
and i didn't really buy the whole claire/francis break-up as it seemed Francis was fixing their relationship to claires approval with each episode, but then in the last 1or2 eps it's as if none of that happened and she just hates his guts
and woohoo at least they didn't end the show on the 3rd season
all in all it was alright (i did finish it already...) but there were a lot of nitpicks other than what was mentioned in my spoiler, i'd say the previous 2 seasons were far stronger

Ya season 3 was pretty disappointing, very uneventful and not exciting compared to season 2. I did think episode 11 and 12 were very good though. The finale needed more closure, it was so abrupt.
And now we wait another year...

I just finished season 3 and Im pretty disappointed in season 3 compared to 1 and 2. I usually watched 1 ep or 2 episodes a week but I watched the last 6 episodes in the last 3 days just to get the show done with. You could see the direction it was heading and the plot lines started getting predictable.
You knew power would corrupt Frank. Their relationship would deteriorate, Remy wouldn't work out (he was so bad ass in season 1), Doug was a side show compared to season 1 and 2.
And all of Franks dealings went from 'how is he going to make this happen' like season 1 and 2 to 'how is this going to fuck itself up' in season 3.
Is season 4 confirmed?
I guess this is a good case of how the rise to the top is far more interesting than being on top.
