Hogshack in Steveston is pretty good. I'm not a fan of their smoked sausage but their pulled pork and ribs have always rated well in my eyes. Brisket has been hit or miss in my opinion. Had it twice, once was second best brisket I've ever had, and the other one I was pretty disappointed with. Might just be the weird times I always end up going there. Oh, also: great cornbread. Definitely worth a visit.

Haven't tried either but, take a look at Peckinpah (Peckinpah Restaurant - Carolina Style Barbecue (http://www.peckinpahbbq.com/)) or Buckstop (Buck Stop (http://buckstop.ca/))

I stayed away from hogshack since for a while I regretted going there. But as of the last year (mid 2013) I think they've really improved.

Glad I found this thread, as I have been wanting some good BBQ for a while. I got to spend some time down in the south of the US and got spoiled with some awesome BBQ shacks, been craving more ever since.

Went to hogshack in 2012. I refuse to go back along with 12 others because of how disgusting the food was. We could have made better ribs at home.

You gonna be disappointed. The stuff in Vancouver pales to what you get in the states.

Oh man... I love Embers. Their pulled pork sandwich is by far the best one I've had throughout the entire Lower Mainland (even though Mission isn't really Lower Mainland).
As far as sheer amount of food goes, I like Montana's quite a bit. Hmm... All you can eat ribs... :sweetjesus:

Not a fan of Hogshack, only their Brisket and Pulled Pork tasted decent to me, everything else is below average.
Memphis, on the other hand...... :heckno:

+1 to the burnt ends!
Memphis Blues ... when I first ate there many ages ago it was pretty good but it has since gone down, down hill. Recently ordered a platter a few months ago, threw more than half of it away, dry, tough, tasteless meat. :heckno:

hit up Memphis Blues on Commercial today
3 of my buddies and I ordered this 70-something dollar platter
very mediocre... meat was insipid, so I had to use copious amounts of their BBQ sauce and hot sauce
stuffed my face tho

ReUp is good for BBQ "fast-food". I wouldn't put it above some of the other places listed. I would, however, put their meat above Memphis lol. ReUp's bbq sauce, however, is a bit too tangy/tart and lacks that smokey sweet depth.

I find the Commercial Dr location of Memphis Blues the best out of all of them, although I haven't tried the downtown location yet. Even then the quality has gone downhill.
still think Hogshacks is the best though.
I miss that place Boonies in Cloverdale
fuck lol looks like im going to memphis blue today...

Classic revscene. I've only been there twice, but that's because I am an hour and a half's drive out to it from my house in Chilliwack... If you won't travel within the GVRD to try some new food or a particular favorite you almost certainly don't love food enough. Heck, at least once or twice a year I end up traveling at least 250 kilometers primarily for a restaurant or a specific food.

I've gotta agree with this post. Sometimes a long trek to a restaurant is more about the drive there, and it makes the food taste that much better when you finally get there.
Longest I've driven is to Seattle for Paseos lol (speaking of...not really BBQ..but best Cuban sandwich I've had).

I would drive down to Seattle just for Paseo, and for some good ol' Southern BBQ (since we only have imitators here) on the way back.
I prefer Peckinpah over Memphis, but they both have their ups and downs.

Hit Hogshack on Saturday and had the beef ribs which were very good. fatty, lots of meat and lots of char. There's a bit too much sauce but otherwise good stuff.
The baby back ribs were on the dry side though but I'd still suggest going.

The Barbecue Pit in Seattle Central. Must order the Rib Tips and Pulled Pork Sandwich. I'd say order a bit of everything, cause it's gonna be better than here regardless.
FYI, Seattle Central is a bit shady.
If you still have room, hop over next door to Ezelle's Fried Chicken. Oprah's Favorite Fried Chicken.
