Vandals seriously damage iconic lion statues at Lions Gate Bridge - BC | Globalnews.ca (http://globalnews.ca/news/1238772/vandals-seriously-damage-lion-statues-next-to-lions-gate-bridge/)

Vandals have defaced two of the lion statues standing guard on the south end of the Lions Gate Bridge.

The statues are on the overpass above the Stanley Park Causeway. The damage was discovered early this morning.

The snout and paws of one of the statues has been damaged and nearly the entire face of the other lion has been broken off.

The city says the Parks Board is assessing the damage and looking at restoration options for the statues.

Vancouver Police have been advised.

“Investigators will be working with the Vancouver Park Board to ensure those responsible are held accountable for taking the roar out of these two lions,” says VPD spokesperson Sergeant Randy Fincham.

These smaller lions were installed in 1998 and are similar to original 1939-era lions at the entrance to the bridge. Those larger lions are undamaged.

Anyone with information about this incident is asked to call the Vancouver Police Department at 604-717-3321 or Crime Stoppers at 1-888-222-8477.

Okay I actually caught this at like 11 this morning thanks to someone that posted it on FB.

And the people that did this are almost entirely retarded. And deserve whatever heavy handed punishment they receive.

But something else caught my attention and pissed me off too. Following the suit of that joke of a site Vancity Buzz both CTV and global had news stories posted on this and all three made it sound as though the statues which were damaged (and I quote) "the iconic lions at the south end of the lions gate". I'm sorry but the actual statues that were vandalized were the statues on the overpass, not the large statues which get decorated for canucks playoff and such.

You will notice that all both websites have since updated the stories to actually include some factual data.

Am I the only one that feels that Global and CTV are quickly deteriorating to the level of that shit hole that is Vancity Buzz? I mean come on get something factual or atleast double check before just posting what vancitybuzz has. Your supposed to be a news outlet, not digging for hits by blowing every story out of proportion like vancitybuzz does.

the punishment should be monetary, if they're 'regular' kids from 'regular' families (i.e. not high net worth) - a debt that will stay with them for years.

There was a bunch of graffiti and vandalism around Richmond a month ago. Spray painting monuments, art installations at different areas of the city and a veterans memorial. Also a coast guard zodiac was vandalized.

+1 to that. When I was in elementary school I never cared about the punishments that school officials would hand out, but what my parents were going to dish out at home made me feel sick.

I could have flooded the building and that was okay, but phone calls about not doing homework...........:eek::eek::eek:
