Them be strong words homie.
There's nothing wrong with playing inline. I play both, and although I vastly prefer playing on ice, inline has its moments.
No need to shit on inline hockey players.
Chrome II East Van Jets here. We're gonna get killed lol (Bryan refuses to put us in Zinc I/II)

I play ice and roller too. I prefer ice but because a lot of my friends play roller, during summer, I switch to roller.

Yeah for sure a lot my good friends that don't play ice play roller so it's my way of keeping in touch with them.
And yup Lester is my cousin. I'd be willing to bet that we've already met IRL. We've played together a few times down in Surrey Central but I don't know which guy you were, nor would I even bother asking all of the Buds which one was "hotjoint" hahah

Haha maybe we've met before not sure. I played for the original BC buds team for 2 years then some of us formed our own team and played in higher divs. We're just 'Buds' because Panchuk the owner wouldn't let us be 'BC Bud' as our team name. My name is Dave btw, so if you're going to ask them, at least you have a name to go by :lol

Some of the shit I went through in the crease with hotjoint and the boys this season blew me away. Numerous slashes, cross checks, slough foots, whatever they could throw at me. I took a skate to the face one time, and not a game went by where I didn't take a puck to the head. Some league refs blow that sort of thing down for goalie safety. Our refs chose to blow the game instead.
A good example is 30 seconds into our first playoff game I get checked into the twine by a net crashing forward. The prick landed on me, and rolled my ankle. Now I have 44:30 to go in what was a rough playoff game, with only one good leg. Crazy that we only lost that game by a single goal. But that made me more upset, wondering what would have happened if I didn't get run.
I'd love to see more respect in the league, but the truth is that hockey is a tough sport, played by an equal number of tough guys, and cowards. In most cases respect is neither given, nor earned. Nice to see that HYP recognized and gave props for good sportsmanship though. Hopefully that sort of thing will spread.
If not, I'm gonna blocker punch the next motherfucker stranding in my crease right in his bitch-ass kidney.

Well, most people don't stop to think that it's a beer league in the heat of the moment, we're not paid professional athletes with million dollar endorsements. We all have families to go home to and jobs the next day. If you get injured, no one is going to pay your bills. We remember that life has precedence over pride and stupidity in those situations.

I think that the lack of respect is attributed to the culture that in beer leagues bodying a guy clean and fair means it's fair game for the other guy to start the chicken-shit stickwork and cheap hits.
I like to think of myself as a pretty easy-going, but competitive guy. If an opponent beats me fair and square, I give props. If he wants to chirp me after, it's water off my back. But I hate when guys that are fairly good beat noobs and chirp them after. I'll end up playing that guy hard, but definitely no stick/illegal work. What do I get in return? Chicken-shit cheap shots.
I think we can all agree that in VIHL/PICH more than in ice604/ashl, there's a certain demographic that is more likely to become violent after losses/getting big-bodied. If there's one thing that I've learned playing inline, it's to protect yourself at all times before anything else. I definitely don't feel the same way when I'm playing ice hockey league games.

We just got moved up to div 3 in roller (with 2 games left in season wtf), but then just played a div 2 team for some reason, with a mix of guys from div 1/2. So most of our team was playing against guys 2+ divs higher than they were used to. It was so obvious how much better they were then us, they were literally joking around the whole time and laughing when our players screwed up or were dangled. No class at all. I tried to step up a bit to at least show them we have some play, and then the cheap shots started. Hacks, crosschecks, not just on me but on my teammates as well. No need for that, or heckling when you're absolutely dominating.

Honestly I find that as a roller-only thing. In ice hockey I've been on both ends of a rout and in no case did the winning team rub it in. All teams that were winning even tried to reduce the scoring just by ragging the puck or not pressuring the other team when they recover the puck. No chirps, no dirty plays, everyone goes home knowing their place and with the respect of the other team.
In roller? Good luck with that. In about 80% of routs I've been a part of (most of the time I'm on the bad end given I play on a family+friends team in a really low div) the winning team tries to run up the score and incessantly chirps. Absolutely no class. Which brings me back to my point about a certain demographic representing a larger proportion of inline hockey being a big cause for the lack of respect/increased violence.

i've noticed it in ice, but maybe it's cuz i play in a lower div than some of you guys. i mean guys who play the body, and guys who play to hit the body. guys who liek to give cheap shots to your lower back while you're in front of the net. i know that standing there that stuff comes with the territory, but there's always other ways to move a guy out of the way. although i will say it happens way more in roller than ice tho

Varies from team to team. On more than one occasion against HYP on ice, they were up by a handful of goals thanks to their ringer (who netted 100+ pts playing in the lowest tier, might I add) and their bench would give us the bronx cheer when someone tripped or whiffed on a breakaway.

I'm not painting every inline team as being a bag of dicks, but rather just outlining that the general attitude in roller hockey games is much chippier/cocky/chicken-shit compared to ice hockey. I'm just speaking from personal experience.
When I was playing PICH I was in the co-ed div (last one I think). Ringers would rack up the score and actually pick on the girls who can't skate. Brutal sportsmanship. Fast forward to Chrome II VIHL last year- same shit.
On another topic- We dumped our "leading goal scorer" because he wasn't a real fit in terms of skill level even though we were getting killed in ChromeII. It sucked because even though he was a friend of the team, having him on the team meant we couldn't move lower to a div where we really belonged.
This year after dumping the guy? Bryan puts us in the same div. I know it's a lot of work to head the league and they must put up with a lot of shit, but there's no reason the team I'm a part of should be in the div we're in with the number of noobs we have. It sucks how there are only a set number of re-tiering opportunities. It's easier for sandbagging to happen, which at the lower divs is absolutely ridiculous.

Hhahah you're in the know with Bryan? Personally I think we can be bumped down just one div and it'd be competitive. We just played our first game against a team that was in our div last year and it was pretty close. But I'd be willing to vouch that their top guys weren't really trying that hard lol
What team are you on? I'll try and get in the way so you don't get hit lol
But then I might get an ejection because of the 3rd man-in rule :suspicious:

Friend... it sucks lol
Pad covers help only a bit. If you check out GSBB there are a few hacks to help you with slides.
For me it's my groins and hip flexors. Since I can't slide, it becomes a battle of attrition with shuffles and short "hops" to get from side to side.
And it gets so damn not. Wait until summer when it's a mint 15-20 inside. I almost passed out when I had to sub in net.

I use a little slippery tape to cover the areas that the fly's don't cover. Other goalies are so jealous. They see me sliding and they be hating.

I used to look forward to Roller every summer but in the past few years all that shit you pointed out really turned me away from the game especially league play. I would consider doing drop in/scrim but only if I really knew the group well. This summer is prob the first time I have never committed FT to roller. Sub here and there for my team but mostly committed to my ASHL/Coast teams.

Yeah I took a good 5 years away from inline because it wasn't as fun.
The only reason I'm back is because my cousin asked if I wanted to be a part of a family/close friends team, so of course I jumped on. If it wasn't for the fact that I'd be seeing everyone every game, I probably would've quit after the first year.
It's not all doom and gloom though. The one real positive to inline? More girls show up to games in summer clothes than they do in ice hockey!

I wasn't there that game but I heard it was crazy. Some of the chopstick guys got some stupid calls against them and they got ejected out of the game. Pretty much at the end, both teams were going at it and the chopstick bench jumped onto the ice ( even the players that were ejected). Blood was shed for one of our guys, so this is pretty intense for a rec league LOL.

If you guys won the game, that'd be a pretty dick-headed way to win.
In this league, all it takes is one idiot on the other team to seriously hurt another idiot pulling off that kind of stunt.

Played on a higher tier than I usually would for a game in net; I swear lower tier teams play better D than the higher tiers. The amount of 2 on 1s, 3 on 1s and breakaways I faced were ridiculous.
It's because people like me in lower tiers watch too much Coach's Corner and intermission TSN broadcasts to still care about playing defence like a real NHL team :toot:
Plus you tend to have ringers in lower divs who usually play to not get scored on whilst helping their teammates get all the points. Everyone in the higher divs are ringers who want the points lol

Buzzer went and I half-heartedly whacked the puck along the boards. Ref came over and told me not to do that. I laughed and told him to give me 2 mins if he wanted. He obliged. None of it was serious. I think he just did it for the lulz. It was pretty funny.

Hey I'm looking for a goalie for 2 games Saturday (620 Killarney) and Sunday (955 Kits).
Both games are Iron II. We'll also be short so you'll likely get lots of practice!
EDIT: Goalie found for both days. Thanks for looking!

For real?
Any other info? Accident or intentional? Any idea what went down and how it happened?
That's horrible news.
Edit: This is likely the game? http://vihl.stats.pointstreak.com/players-boxscore.html?gameid=2469102

Looks like Tony Xu had enough of HYP's shit. I never like to see people get really messed up while playing a game. But he wasn't out there to make friends.
Karma works in mysterious ways. Maybe this will humble the guy.
Seriously, he's a stud in fucking Iron div? that's like being the best special olympian there is.

i am gonna chime in too and agree with originalhypa, with all his coments. Nobody wants to see another athlete get hurt in any sport, just wanted to make sure that is clear and it's unforutnate what happened.
However, i've played in the same tier with this guy all season. He's notorious for running at our goalie (and other's too probably) and runs his mouth all game in a pretty low division (copper 2) and i don't think he should be bragging about it on revscene or on the rink. if you treat and play with some level of respect for other players nobody will ever retaliate or cheap shot you. it might have been karma or a freak accident who knows. best of luck and a speedy recovery!

i'm gonna chime in as well, i played against him in the same div this season (albiet once). it was a close game, but i didn't see him run our goalie, chirp, or make dirty plays. maybe it was a one off in the fact that our team doesn't chirp as much, but that's what happened when i encountered him.
hope for a speedy recovery. we pay to play this shit and it's not worth your future

Agreed.
I hate when guys run me in net. I have 100% focus on the puck during a game, and the times I've been run I had no opportunity to defend myself. I got ran in a playoff game last season, and the asshole rolled my ankle. Even though I couldn't stand, I had to finish that game out of duty to my team.
I got a concussion last week in my ASHL game. Got kicked in the head a few times by a guy who lost his balance while in my crease. Missed a day and a half of work, and was in a cloud all last week. It's cleared up now, but it was a lost week, and what would be future issues?
Yet we still play..... and love every minute of it.
If you're reading this HYP#11, take care. Through all the joking, jawing, and mocking we do in this thread, it would suck if you couldn't play anymore. I don't wish that sort of thing upon anyone.

I got a concussion a couple yrs ago in pich. Lasted a couple weeks. By far the scariest injury I ever had. Not knowing when it will go away and having no eye hand coordination was pretty frightening. Damn out of curiosity what divs do you play in? As both a player and a goalie, I don't think I can recall any bad goalie collisions in the 8 years I've been playing. It seems as though you have some really bad luck in net :S

I was sad to hear that the Ninjas were out for the 2014/15 season. I'm playing summer league with a team that's been together for 11 years, and even though they've had 10 losing years, they won their div 3 years ago and they still talk about it. We made so many mistakes last year. But if we had Nick for the whole season, things would have ended differently.
I miss you guys!
Let's s&p next week. Then for for lunchtime beers!
:D

Last winter season I played Div E in the HNA league, C2 in ASHL Langley, and B1 +30 at ASHL Langley. My style is very aggressive and athletic though. I will dive on the puck if I can, and have no problems putting a shoulder into an offending player in my crease. I think that's the problem there, is that guys think the goalie should be a pussy and back down. I'm more protective of my crease, and especially my defensemen. We're a team out there, and have to watch each other's backs.
For some reason, roller is where I shined. I have 6 games total played, with a record 5w - 1L. 2 games in silver (1w-1L), 2 wins in copper, and 1 win in bronze. I don't know how the hell that happened. Although the rollerfly really helped. That trips guys out completely, when the goalie slides from post to post on a wrap.

My teammate went head first into the boards. Fractured 2 vertebrates. Hasnt walked since. He might be now though? I dont know since he alienated himself from his friends on the team. I haven't heard about him in a few yrs. Good guy. Wasnt dirty player. He was fighting for position with a much stronger and higher skilled player. He was pushed...he tripped...thats all up in the air. But we as a team felt it was a freak accident . Nhan was there watching our game as well

i had a similar situation where i went head first as i got tripped up. luckily i hit the side of my head and my shoulder took the brunt of the impact.

Thanks for the well wishes. I'll be alright. I could probably play in a week or two if we were still playing. I do have to address the dirty hits and running the goalie allegations though. I've honestly never made any sort of contact with any goalie or done anything dirty in my 4 years of playing VIHL, check my PIMs if you don't believe me. I honestly have no idea what any of you could possibly even be referring to. I'd probably win the VIHL Lady Byng in a landslide since I'm targeted for hits every single game. My knee hit the goalie in the game in question but the goalie literally dove head first to poke check and i couldn't get out of the way (don't believe me if you want but that's probably the 1st goalie interference or any penalty that wasn't a trip or hook etc. I've ever got).
Oh wait, once this year a guy dropped the gloves and tried fighting me for after I hit a goalie's glove a split second after he covered it, is that what you're talking about? That's literally the only two incidents I've ever had.
Anyways, I tear it up in Copper, not Iron, so get it straight! Let's talk about how I got snubbed for the awards this year, what a travesty!
I'll be back to trash talk next year, hopefully you guys don't take it so seriously hahaha!
HYP#11
07-31-2014, 09:32 PM
Decided to go through all my PIMs for 4 years including playoffs and last game was my first ever goalie interference. Notorious for running goalies indeed...
I get a decent amount of unsportsmanlikes for trash talking (when the other team engages first) so that's a fair critique but I certainly never run goalies and have never injured anyone at all or been given a single body checking penalty despite playing fairly high level hitting minor hockey my whole childhood...
Anyways, the guy that hit me apparently emailled our captain apologizing. I haven't read it yet. It was an intentional hit that I couldn't avoid since there were two guys on me but I'm sure he wasn't trying to injure me so no hard feelings. It happens.
