: Smoking in public

Ok, I do like some occasional chaos but I have to say that along with spitting in public, smoking in public is fucking annoying.

On the way to a friend's house tonight I was literally blasted in the face by like 10 people smoking cigarettes downtown and at least as many people smoking doobies walking right down the street. Mind you, yes, I was walking through Gastown and Tinseltown, but often when I'm walking even through Yaletown, the West End, Coal Harbour or the odd trip near Granville there are muddafakkas everywhere just blasting smoke out their faces and it sucks!

My friend said when she was in Japan and working in Europe that they have outdoor hoods and fans and shit for people to smoke in designated areas. Maybe I'm getting all old and crotchety but holy shit when I'm walking down the street I don't want to get the smoke-blast every 10 fucking feet.

Haha I bet if I were more of an asshole I would enjoy annoying people like me

All our construction sites are now 100% no smoking

Smoking is slowly dieing off mainly because the majority of the people who do smoke are realizing they can't afford it

Try walking into metrotown by the chapters/mcdonalds entrance...gotta avoid 300 globs of fresh spit on the ground along with 40 ppl standing there smoking.

I don't smoke...so can someone tell me why it's a "must" to spit while smoking? Is it the taste or something? If it is then kill the problem at the source...quit smoking

I can't remember the last time I was walking DT and someone was smoking a cig... It is a dying breed tho and you don't nearly see as many people smoking in public compared to the early 2000's and especially the 90's.

Shit I remember when people could still smoke on airplanes

if you think how things are today is bad, imagine what it was like back when smoking was not prohibited.

i used to work in an office building (circa 1995) that had not been renovated since the 1970's. it was a time capsule right down to the green vinyl seating in the waiting room. there were these ancient non-funtional exhaust fans mounted in the windows and when i asked why they were there, i was told it was because smoking used to be allowed indoors, and the exhaust fans so the few non-smokers could still breathe

my mom still has nightmares of the days when i was in elementary school and parents were voluntold to work in the bingo halls to raise funds. she said the cigarette smoking used to get so bad you could barely see :(

reason is because sugar level is too high in the tobacco leaves (not sure.how to really explain in english), thats why a lot of ppl spit & alot of them are not use to the high sugar level in the leaves

Remember when hotshots/old jack's loft was around, man my clothes and hair would smell so bad.

If I'm out in public smoking, I'm extremely careful not to blow smoke in anyone's face.
I won't walk and smoke, I know it'll catch someone's face in the back so I'll just stand in a corner with light foot traffic and do it. If someone does happen to walk by, I'll exhale up like a chimney.

Most smokers I know try to be as courteous as possible and often apologize if they accidentally get smoke in someone's face.

I don't think its a "MUST", not very many of my buddies spat. I spat a lot but that was just out of habit.

i go to some local meets and most people vape, so standing in a group of them isnt bad, infact it usually smells amazing, but then 1 smoker will walk over and hes clearly not welcome after blowing his smoke around with no concern for those around him

i didnt realize how annoying it was until less people did it. i dont wanna smell that shit or smell like it.

its like someone shitting their pants and following you around so you have to smell it.

i had a friend that was 2 packs a day, and his wife was 1. now they both vape and says the money they save is crazy!

and they dont smell gross anymore!

i would call the average smoker 1/2 -1 pack a day

casual smokers would probably last 2-3 days

TLDR: You can easily be a social smoker and end up being addicted to smoking 5+ fags a day.

For me smoking was one of those things that sneaks up on you

Hired a guy who smokes, (I quit in the year after highschool from 1 pack a day), and ended up being oh lets have a smoke in the morning, then after lunch. Oh damn we just finished a burst of hard work, lets smoke.

By the end of it I was smoking 4-5 a day, addicted. On weekends I didnt smoke cause my employee wasnt there, and looking back I was more short tempered with my gf, and when big fights happened first thing i did was drive to the store and pick up a pack. Just took up vaping again last week, first 3 or so days was shitty.

wow so you mean you can just make an obscene amount of noise in your apartment to the tune of filming a music video and then have the "balls" to bitch about neighbor complaints. then you turn around and run your mouth about other peoples second hand smoke?

you are such a loser. sadly you are also so inept that you wont ever accept this fact and try and better yourself.

depends on the person lol
it varied for me, when i first started it was at 3 cigs/day, peaked at a pack a day, then back to 5 cigs a day and by the time i quit, i was doing 1 or 2 cigs every few days

I go to work with some people who do up to 2 packs a day so it really varies

Usually people start spitting because of the bitter taste when they first start smoking. Then it just becomes a habit and your saliva glands get accustomed to generating more saliva while you constantly spit them out. Sort of like a vicious cycle...

Its the walking smokers that I hate.

^ This!

Even when I smoked a few years ago, I fucking hated walking behind other smokers. Same with by doors and sidwalks.. I'd go in the alley etc to avoid making other people inhale my shit.

Now its vape all the way :jiggy:

Smoking trumps firearms related deaths every year in the US by a wide margin, on a scale of (aprx) 300,000+ to 19,000. I don't want to get into a war over gun laws in this thread, but which one is really the epidemic?

Second hand smoke is known to cause respiratory illness and/or cancer regardless of age, there are few things I hate more than people smoking in highly congested areas, nobody wants your cancer, thanks.

On the flip side, the number of deaths directly tied to the use of marijuana stands at a hand full, I'd rather people smoked weed than cigarettes.

I don't know what someone told you about Japan but the last time I was there you could still smoke outdoors and plenty of restaurants and bars still allow smoking indoors as well. The only place you can't smoke ever is in the train station.

Speaking of Metrotown
I was so fed up with food cort side 3rd level parking lot entrance, I wanted to write complaint letter but didn't know where to send...
so that entrance, of course, is non smoking area, plus, right next to the entrance is designated parking for drivers with baby or pregnant. Yet so many smokers smoke right there, even employees of mall stores.
it's been going on as long as mall existed yet nothing is being done.

I'm a smoker myself but I find that pretty fking stupid.

My trip to Japan last year definately helped me get back into smoking

Smoking inside a classy izakaya definately makes you feel like a boss :accepted:

You can smoke in so many places, even smoking sections inside starbucks.

Slowly transitioning from smoking to vaping. But when I do smoke outside, I always stand away from heavy foot traffic areas, and take a few extra steps away when I see kids/babies approaching.

I dont smoke but due to the generation that raised me I'm mostly numb to smokers. My parents smoked in the car with the window just cracked enough to keep the smoke outta their faces while driving (like that helps the kid in the back bathed in it) and when I was real young I remember people smoking in the grocery stores just butting out on the floor same with department stores.

That is on the table, there have been cases recently that question that statistic, though I agree with the general idea that weed is not a severe health risk.

I'm sure weed has contributed to lung cancer in many cases it's just the person had other factors that more heavily influenced it

Obviously inhaling burnt carbons isn't healthy regardless the substance.

I agree some smokers are straight assholes. When I used to smoke I would go out of my way to avoid exhaling near people and I never understood the retards who stand literally right beside building entrances.

I'd been a smoker since I was ~14 now 22, and I didn't want to try vapes. My gf got me one for the past xmas (which forces me to try it) and I literally only smoke when I drink on the weekends. I never liked it when people tried to tell me to quit but for all you smokers I suggest you at least try vapes. I went from $12 dollars a day from cigs to $10 a week. Vapes allow you to smoke indoors and not smell like shit, and if you're an after meal smoker than you can have 2 puffs of a vape as opposed to 2 puffs of a cig than smoking the whole thing anyway so you don't waste it.
