After 80k my 09 xterra finally needs new tires. Right now I'm running 265/65/17 bfg tires. I go camping during summer and boarding during winter. I'm looking for something more aggressive without having to lift my suspension. I want to go as big as possible without any crazy mods. I have about a 2" clearance on my garage door. Leaning towards duratracs or bfg all terains, but If anybody has any advice on tire size or tire recommendation please chime in. Thanks!

If you're never gonna tow get the P rated ones. If you do plan on towing fork over the cash for the LT C load range.

I've had 3 sets of bfg at. On a 2000lb samurai, 3000lb sidekick and 7000lb cummins. Used in Oregon sand dunes and a winter in fort st john. They had good treadlife, no sidewall issues, very versatile. I prefer to go as narrow and tall as possible. Too bad they don't make 33x9.5 anymore. There is a new bfg at coming out with really ugly sidewalls.

goodyear Duratracs hands down, they would work perfectfor you and good on the road as well

Duratracs. I believe you can stuff 33's in your Xterra with minimal issues.

I've been doin a lot of reading up on tire reviews and it looks like the majority is usually between bfg at and the gy duratracs. Now, every time is see SUVs or pickups I look at their tires. Bfgs looks good but the duratracs look great. The reviews between them are almost identical. Good tread life and low road noise. The size I want to install is 275/70/17 or 285/70/17. Original is 265/65/17. So not a huge difference in tire size but to fit the 285s I need to remove the mud flaps and push back a section of the inner fender liner. The duratracs don't come in the 275s but the bfgs do. I never realized how hard it was to choose tires! Sigh

Here a picture of my 285 bfg AT KOs. Will definitely need some wheel well melting/trimming. Even with some trimming, tires will rub slightly when on a hill, but nbd.

i usually buy locally to avoid warranty hassles.

i know local shops usually can't match the prices down south but some do try pretty damn hard and that makes it worth my while to give them some business.

285s looks huge! I really don't want to lift the xterra due do my garage clearance. I think I'm going to go 275 or 265. I wish duratracs came in 275s:( Also what kind of rims on your x? I'm finding hard to find 6x114 rims with good offset for our setup.

After pricing all my tire options online I called around town and found that after the exchange rate and duty, it almost comes out the same. Big difference if you want to get rims locally. Online still way cheaper.

Drive down to discount tire in bellingham. they will match tire rack prices and they will mount and balance as well.

Got me a set of 315/70R17 and a set of 17x9 pro comp alloy wheels for only $1800(+216 taxes at the border) all in! that same combo would had cost me $2856(tax in) saving of $800.

I didn't have any major complaints about the BFG's except that they were absolute shit in the snow, I slid through an intersection on 1st ave going 15 km/h after a light dusting. They're fricken scary.

The Duratracs have a squishier side wall, and it was a major difference switching from the BFG's. Aside from that, road noise and everyday performance on dry or wet tarmac is about the same. In mud, the Duratracs don't cake up quite as easily as the BFG's. Winter performance is great - in the snow it feels like I'm running a winter tire. They're severe weather rated so you won't need chains on designated highways during winter.

I have around 65,000 km on mine with plenty of tread left on my set and wouldn't hesitate to get another.

Great to hear from a 1st hand experience. I'm pretty set on duratracs now. I just have to look for rims. It's pretty hard to look for rims for the xterra since they changed the bolt pattern to 6x114.3.

The steelies I have are the Pro Comp 7089. These are pretty much the go-to wheels for the second gen xterra when I did my research a couple years ago. It's usually either these or painting your stock wheels. Not too sure if there are any newer options out now, but I doubt it since the second gen xterra bolt pattern specs are pretty rare.

The pro comps looks good, but in order to fit beefy tires I would need it lift it. The offset is so low. My wheel options are so limited if I don't lift it.

33's will fit no problem as long as you do the melt mod, basically heating the inner fender with a heat gun and pushing the plastic back. XD Addicts do come in our bolt pattern. I got them in 18"s and look awsome. I want to go higher too, my suspension is set on the lowest lift. Just an FYI, i do have the OEM Billstein offroad suspension, UCA, and a 2" front lift sitting in my garage.

I would like to lift it but I'll have clearance issue parking in my garage. With a 70 series tires it would raise the xterra an inch and if I lift it 2 inches that would make it a total of 3 inches. I'll measure my clearance again but I believe it was 2 inches. Crossing my fingers.

A little bit of an update. I decided to with the Goodyear duratracs. The aggressive looks and the great reviews won over the bfg all terrains. I got a pretty good deal on them locally. Basically the same price as discount tire without the hassle.

And after 3 weeks of waiting, I finally got my pro comp 7089. I'll get these mounted hopefully by this weekend and update with pics on the xterra.

Finally got them mounted. Should of installed the white letterings inside but the wife insisted them to be out. Still not sold on it but I'm fairly happy with the results.

Thanks. I've only driven less than 100kms so far. There is a noticeable hummm when driving but nothing obnoxious. Makes my xterra look badass and I've already have a couple of strangers tell me:)

i ended up getting 285X65R18E so basically 33" and i did have to do the melt mod
