There are many other very disfiguring diseases out there if you want to learn more. Google porphyria or harlequin icthyosis if you want to see more.

I remember seeing this disease on a talk show, I believe it was Maury. A kid had this disease or something very similar and couldn't go outside without being completely covered up. The kid had to cover his face with something similar to a welders face shield.
