City construction all night behind my house

So this started about 3 days ago..there's a townhouse development directly behind my house. Last three days there has been construction all night, big machinery digging up dirty etc causing a lot of noise.
I called RCMP non-emergency line and they sent an officer to check it out, they called me back; turns out its city workers working on the roads for the townhouse development. He advised me my best course of action is to file a complain directly with the city.
Does this sound legit? I have emailed city hall but no reply so far.

depends where you live.
certain roads, such as highways & freeways, allow for night time work because it is the only time where there is low traffic volume in order to reduce traffic congestion.
If they have a permit, then you are pretty much out of luck.

City is Surrey. Front of my house is facing a main street but behind is is all neighbourhood pretty much, and of course that town-house development which used to be 4 separate houses/properties.
Is it possible the cop is bullshitting?

It would make sense if they were doing construction on a busy street. Otherwise, why would non-city workers be working in the middle of the night?
The easy solution would be to buy earplugs.

I dont know if city workers would be working on a town house complex, its usually contractors that do that kinda work. Unless its city work doing paving on the street or what not.
City works are on 24/7 but usually only for emergency stuff.

If they have a permit from the city to work after construction hours. Regardless if they are city employees or private contractors... There is pretty much nothing you can do. :woot2:

Best thing to do is call the city, if they have a permit for after hours then your sol. but if they don't the city will shut them down. im sure your not the only one who will be complaining.

They're probably doing civil works. It's either nights for a few days or close roads for a few weeks during the day if it's the case

ear plugs does wonders man. If the RCMP officer advised you to contact the city, why wouldn't it be legit?

excavators digging for new construction doesn't sound legit to me. Do you live near a bank? They might be digging underground in order to rob the vault from underground.

instead of emailing, try calling. i'm sure you'll get a much faster response.
i woulda already called before i even posted on rs man. it's like the one most important thing you should have already done.

Email the city, hope for the best. If it gets really bad, consider purchasing a white noise maker.

Revscene logic to solve a problem.
Post complaint on Revscene
Possibly take some sort of passive aggressive action
Try to google an answer
Send email
If enough people suggest it, maybe consider actually talking to someone

How many times do we have threads like this - why not walk over and ask to speak to a supervisor???? I think RS people are scared of construction workers.
By doing so you will;
a - discover who is performing the work (contractor vs city)
b - discover how long they will be working
Either way, I'm sure it's a short-term project, especially if it is the city. Construction happens MUCH faster at night than during the day so if I was you I'd actually be happier it was going on when it's dark.
