Fucking creepy ass guy who decided to kill women because he was rejected and still a virgin.
RIP to all the victims.
Elliot Rodger's Retribution - YouTube
SLA VISTA, Calif. -
Santa Barbara County Sheriff Bill Brown revealed new details about Friday night's drive by shootings in Isla Vista during a Saturday morning news conference, including a new death toll and a possible link to an ominous YouTube video.
Brown said the initial call came in to dispatch at 9:27 p.m. Friday night as multiple gunshots.
Deputies in the area found several victims and received information about the suspect and vehicle involved.
Witnesses described seeing a black BMW speeding through the streets, spraying bullets at people and various targets near El Embarcadero and Segovia Roads and the top of the loop along Del Playa.
Brown said at 9:33 p.m. the suspect exchanged gunfire with deputies then veered down Del Playa and crashed into a parked car. Deputies found the suspect inside the BMW dead from a gunshot wound to the head. Brown said he did not know if the suspect was shot and killed by deputies or if the wound was self-inflicted.
The sheriff said a semi automatic handgun was recovered from the scene and believes the suspect acted alone.
In total, the sheriff confirmed seven people were killed, including the gunman; seven others are hospitalized either with gunshot wounds or traumatic injuries -- one with life-threatening injuries; there are nine separate crime scenes.
The time frame between the first 911 call to the discovery of the dead suspect was ten minutes.
Multiple witnesses say they saw two people inside the suspect's vehicle, however, during the press conference, Sheriff Brown would neither confirm nor deny whether there was a passenger in the car.
At this time, the sheriff is not releasing the suspect's name, although he has been identified.
Brown called the suspect "severely mentally disturbed" and said, "This was a premeditated mass murder."
Word on the street quickly spread about an ominous YouTube video posted by a young man who identified himself as Elliot Rodger, titled "Retribution." The nearly seven minute long rant blasts women who've ignored or rejected him over the past eight years and warns that he will "punish you all for it."
When questioned about the video during the news conference, Sheriff Brown indicated investigators were familiar with it and are looking into whether Roger was connected with the crime.
The victims include someone who was shot dead inside the I.V. Delimart on Pardall Road. The market windows are pocked with bullet holes. Another crime scene is marked near the 7-11 convenience store.
Xavier Mozejewski told NewsChannel 3 reporter Victoria Sanchez that he witnessed some of the violence and described it as an "old western shoot-out."
Michael Vitak, a student from the Czech Republic, told Sanchez what he witnessed.
"Guys in a BMW. Maybe they were trying to prove they're tough," Vitak said during a live televised interview. Vitak saw them shooting at two girls; one was shot dead, the other was critically hurt.
"I heard shots, screams, pain," said Vitak. "All emotions. I hope she is going to be fine," he said.
Vitak said it was too dark to see the suspects' faces.
About the same time the drive-by shootings occurred, the California Highway Patrol website logged a hit and run along Del Playa that left someone with major leg and head trauma.
NewsChannel 3 senior reporter John Palminteri said via phone, "It is a horrible scene out here."
Palminteri described multiple ambulances, a black BMW that slammed into as many as two cars, and a body covered with a yellow tarp lying in the road on Del Playa. He indicated the deceased may have been shot by a deputy or police officer.
By 12:15 a.m. Saturday morning, Palminteri updated viewers that he'd seen a total of four body bags.
One woman identified as Sierra told Sanchez she was approached by two men in a black BMW. The driver flashed a small black handgun and asked '"Hey, what's up?"'
Sierra, who was visibly shaken, said she thought it was an airsoft gun and kept walking. She said seconds later, she felt something buzz by her head and quickly realized they were bullets. Three or four of them.

HOLY FUCK I'm watching all of his videos... wow.
Intense shit, guy comes across with a well-spoken narrative to his own internalized misery. People without social skills go completely insane. Nerds like this with no skills end up full of fucking rage for everyone because they can't make friends, let alone get laid. That shit builds up in them and I'm sure they see porn and how many bitches the jocks get and that shit just plants a dark, dark fucking seed!
I think we'll see so many more of these types of mass-shooters, we're all so much more connected online but some slip through the social cracks and end up completely disconnected; even from their humanity.

This is the first time I can remember that I've seen a mass murderer leave behind so many videos online. And it's eerie as fuck to watch his videos and know that basically he was going to kill a whole bunch of people in 24 hours after uploading his videos.
Here's a interesting comment he made last week:
"I temporarily took all of my Vlog's down due to the alarm it caused with some people in my family. I will post more updates in the future."
So I assume his family knew he had issues and maybe were trying to get him help?

This guy is a loner for a reason, he's fucking nuts.
Growing up in a rich family maybe he was totally ignored by his busy parents and left to his own. People retreat into their own minds and end up fucking snapping. I wonder if this shit happens more often now than ever before because we're not connected personally to people much anymore and mostly through electronic devices?!
He complains that girls are attracted to the wrong type of guy, mostly douchebags, according to him. I understand his mentality because when I was younger I wondered why women were attracted to men who seemed to be unreliable and aloof.
Then I became unreliable and aloof and started getting mega pussy on Clubvibes!!!
I can't help but also feel some compassion for him. There are a lot of guys out there who can't get laid at all while there are other guys where pussy falls into their laps so easily; he's right, life isn't fair.
May God punish his soul for killing innocent people over his own personal failings

Introduction
My name is Elliot Rodger. I was born in the UK, but moved to the United States at the age of 5. I grew up in Calabasas and Woodland Hills, California. Currently, I am attending college in Santa Barbara, and while there I am staying the the town of Isla Vista. I have tried very hard to fit in with the social scene there, but I have ultimately been unable to do so. There are too many obnoxious people who have ruined my whole experience at that place.
I consider myself a sophisticated, polite gentleman, unlike most boys my age. My father is of British descent, and my mother is of Asian descent, so that makes me a Eurasian. I enjoy hiking, exercising, watching sunsets, traveling, cars, fashion, going to nice restaurants, and going to parties. I have traveled all over the world, ever since I was a child. So far, I have visited ten countries, including Great Britain, the United States, France, Spain, Greece, Germany, Mexico, Singapore, Malaysia, and Morocco.

That's the truth though, people are having crazy amounts of sex and it pushes the quiet and introverted even farther to the fringes of society. Also the status thing is very important. I'm 36, and even though I've boned hot waitresses in the past, it's embarrassing to think that I would have to introduce a girlfriend as an Earl's waitress.
I don't think he was gay either, LGBTZQXY groups are very inclusive and gay kids generally can find a place to fit in. Where does a hetero dork go to be accepted? Hetero culture is highly group-competitive!

He spent his childhood being told what a special perfect snowflake he was by his homeschooling mama. then he got out in the real world all egotistical and poorly socialized. he thought he could make up for his social awkwardness with a nice car, clothes, and sunglasses. when that didn't work, he decided biches were the problem.
tl;dr homeschooling fucked him socially

No.
The only way this could've been prevented is if the world (or girls) started worshiping him at his feet. So no, this could not have been prevented. The kid was instilled with a grand sense of entitlement that the real world wouldn't give. Too bad.
I mean, I just found out about this guy half an hour ago and this is already the handful of quotes I got from him (paraphrase):
"I just wanted to be loved. I don't know why you don't give it to me, I'm the perfect guy"
"I don't get why a guy in a honda civic can get a girl like that. I have a BMW."
"Tomorrow, I will be a God to you all"
The kid is a loser through and through. 22 years and he still can't figure out why no girl would touch him. Give any person any of his youtube videos and it'll only take them 30 seconds to figure out why.
A little humility, and a little less drama and this kid, probably would've had a normal social life, and a prospect of a normal love life. So no, there's nothing this world could've done; but there's tons of things he could've done differently if he only started looking at his problems internally rather than externally.

Substitute California with BC, sounds like a stereotypical Richmond kid.
Life is not about richness but how to rise above adversity and failure. That's worth more than all the money and material things parents can give to kids (even useless attention like helicopter parenting).

California Gun Rampage Tied to Video Leaves Seven Dead

ISLA VISTA, Calif. — Seven people were killed, including the gunman, and seven others injured on Friday night after a bloody drive-by shooting on the crowded streets of a small college town near Santa Barbara, as a man the police described as mentally disturbed methodically opened fire in a 10-minute spasm of terror.
The gunman was found dead with a bullet wound to his head after his black BMW crashed into another car. He had exchanged gunfire with deputy sheriffs in Isla Vista, near the University of California, Santa Barbara.
A family lawyer tentatively identified the gunman as Elliot Rodger, the 22-year-old son of a Hollywood director.
The lawyer, Alan Shifman, told reporters gathered outside the home of Mr. Rodger’s father that Mr. Rodger’s parents had called the police about a month ago to express their concerns over his YouTube videos “regarding suicide and the killing of people.” He said that police officers had interviewed Mr. Rodger, but concluded that he posed no danger. The lawyer said they had found him to be a “perfectly polite, kind and wonderful human.”
“We offer our deepest compassion and sympathy to the families involved in this terrible tragedy,” Mr. Shifman said in a statement he delivered on behalf of the Rodger family. “We are experiencing the most inconceivable pain, and our hearts go out to everyone involved.”
Bill Brown, the Santa Barbara County sheriff, did not identify the gunman at a news conference early Saturday but the California license plates on the car involved in the crash — 6ELX898 — matched those in a photo posted on Mr. Rodger’s Facebook page that showed him seated behind the wheel of a black BMW.
“We have obtained and are analyzing written and videotaped evidence that suggests that this atrocity was a premeditated mass murder,” Sheriff Brown said.
On various social media outlets, Mr. Rodger, a student at Santa Barbara City College, described himself as a sexually frustrated and angry virgin about to go on “a mission of retribution” over young women who had rejected him. The video was posted on YouTube, on Mr. Rodger’s Facebook page and on his blog.
“For the last eight years of my life, ever since I hit puberty, I’ve been forced to endure an existence of loneliness, rejection and unfulfilled desires, all because girls have never been attracted to me,” Mr. Rodger said in the video. “In those years I’ve had to rot in loneliness. It’s not fair. You girls have never been attracted to me. I don’t know why you girls have never been attracted to me, but I will punish you for it.”
He then laid out his plans to target women on the campus of the University of California, Santa Barbara.
“On the day of retribution, I am going to enter the hottest sorority house of U.C.S.B., and I will slaughter every single spoiled, stuck-up blond slut I see inside there. All those girls I’ve desired so much,” he said. “I’ll take great pleasure in slaughtering all of you. You will finally see that I am in truth the superior one, the true alpha male.”
Mr. Rodger’s father, Peter Rodger, who lives in Los Angeles, has written screenplays and was the second-unit director on the film “The Hunger Games.”
In response to a question about the video, Sheriff Brown said that investigators were reviewing it, and that it appeared to be related to the shooting. But the sheriff made it clear that he was not identifying Mr. Rodger as the gunman. YouTube later removed the video, saying it violated its content standards.
The video was one of a series, many posted in the previous 24 hours, in which Mr. Rodger presented himself as a lonely and frustrated young man, unable to meet women or find sexual fulfillment.
The six people killed, as well as the gunman, were declared dead at locations scattered across the grid of streets the man traveled — driving slowly as he fired his gun, according to witnesses. Another seven people were hospitalized, including one with life-threatening injuries, the authorities said. Sheriff Brown said there were at least nine crime scenes.
The identities of the victims were not immediately released.
Most of the fatalities appeared to have occurred in front of the IV Deli Mart on Pardall Road, a Friday night gathering spot where the gunman stopped and opened fire. Witnesses said bystanders, confused at first by the pop-pop-pop of gunshots in this idyllic oceanside community, began diving to the ground or running for cover.
Ian Papa, 20, a student at Santa Barbara City College, said he had been walking to get a slice of pizza when he encountered the gunman. He said the car was driven swiftly and wildly through the streets, at one point knocking down two bicyclists and mangling the leg of one of them.
“We saw a BMW driving slowly, and then in seconds it hit the accelerator — it was going 60-plus,” Mr. Papa said Saturday morning. “He hit two bikes. One he barely grazed. The other was plowed down. The biker went through the windshield, and the driver took off.”
Carolina Bowles, 19, a freshman at the University of California, Santa Barbara, said she had been in her apartment complex when she heard a deafening barrage of gunfire.
“We looked out the window, and three girls were running, ducked down, trying to get back down into the store,” she said.
The police said the gunman had acted alone and repeatedly described him as a mentally disturbed person on a premeditated mission of murder.
“It’s obviously the work of a madman,” Sheriff Brown said. “There’s going to be a lot more information that’s going to come out that is going to give indications of how disturbed this individual was.”
The episode began shortly before 9:27 p.m. on Friday, when police received the first 911 calls reporting gunshots. Sheriff Brown said the gunman engaged deputies six minutes later in a brief shootout before speeding off, and then exchanged fire with another deputy. He said it was not clear whether the gunman had been killed by the deputies or had shot himself. A semiautomatic handgun was recovered from the car, the police said.
On Saturday, the area was cordoned off with yellow police tape, and bullet casings could be seen scattered across the streets.
The university is about 10 miles from downtown Santa Barbara and has just over 22,000 students.
Mr. Brown said the police had recovered one gun but did not rule out the possibility that the gunman had used more weapons.
Correction: May 24, 2014
An earlier version of this article misstated one word in the name of the college where Elliot Rodger was a student. It is Santa Barbara City College, not Santa Barbara Community College. In addition, a picture caption with this article misstated the name of the college campus near the shooting. As the article correctly notes, it is the University of California, Santa Barbara — not the University of Santa Barbara.
Ian Lovett reported from Isla Vista, and Adam Nagourney from Los Angeles. Reporting was contributed by Kimiya Shokoohi from Woodland Hills, Calif., and by Alan Feuer and Jennifer Preston from New York. Susan C. Beachy contributed research.

UCSB Shooter Elliot Rodger Posted Racist Messages on ‘Puahate’ Website
Most of Elliot Rodger’s final YouTube videos centered on his frustration over an inability to meet girls that found him attractive. The 22-year-old student who allegedly committed a drive-by shooting spree near UC Santa Barbara Friday night that left seven dead including himself, was also apparently a frequent posted on puahate.com, a forum dedicated to exposing phony “pickup artist” techniques.
The Southern Poverty Law Center, which tracks hate groups, discovered Rodger’s postings after the shooting, publishing them on the organization’s HateWatch blog. Rodger’s comments, while centered on the idea of meeting women, had a significantly racist bent.
In a January message titled “Saw a black guy sitting with 4 white girls,” he wrote:
Today I drove through the area near my college and saw some things that were extremely rage-inducing.
I passed by this restaurant and I saw this black guy chilling with 4 hot white girls. He didn’t even look good.
Then later on in the day I was shopping at Trader Joe’s and saw an Indian guy with 2 above average White Girls!!!
What rage-inducing sights did you guys see today? Don’t you just hate seeing these things when you go out? It just makes you want to quit life.
That same month, when an Asian poster asked if wearing certain shoes would help him attract women, Rodger responded:
Shoes won’t help you get white girls. White girls are disgusted by you, silly little Asian.
After the Asian man posted photos of himself posing with a white girl, Rodger wrote:
Full Asian men are disgustingly ugly and white girls would never go for you. You’re just butthurt that you were born as an asian piece of shit, so you lash out by linking these fake pictures. You even admit that you wish you were half white. You’ll never be half-white and you’ll never fulfill your dream of marrying a white woman. I suggest you jump off a bridge.
As SPLC reported, Puahate’s website was taken down early Saturday morning after a message went up that read, “Puahate is about to get a massive amount of press.”

well in the Misc thread someone talked about his disturbingly creepy videos and he said his parents found em and had him remove them
so...maybe they did call the police
you'd think they would take some serious action after that though like bring him to a psychiatric ward and have them analyze him
This is what he posted on his youtube account so his family definitely tried to get him help but it seem like it was too late.

Elliot Rodger's Retribution (Alleged Killers Video Threat) - YouTube (https://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_embedded&v=MQUW3Km01BM)
this will probably get taken down again..
wow this guy is crazy
That's one creepy laugh..
QFT!
A post from misc.
Never insult the style of Elliot Rodger. I'm the most stylish person in the world. Just look at my profile pic. That's just one of my fabulous outfits. The sweater I'm wearing in the picture is $500 from Neiman Marcus.

How is that any different from a girl on a date showing you a pic of her in a skin tight dress and asking, "Am I fat here?"
Everyone looks for validation and most people get a healthy enough amount from friends and family. If buddy was ignored by family and friends, then exposed to our oversexed media and pornography, I can easily see why he might find himself completely worthless to women, male friendship, and society as a whole. Read what people wrote to him on YouTube before he went on his spree, he was mercilessly attacked on his looks and attitude.
His posting about how he felt about himself were his parachute; a bruised ego always seeks a soft landing, it's completely natural. Obviously he was highly intelligent and realized his looks, attitude, and behavior were completely incompatible with the lifestyle he wanted, one where he fucked tons of bitches and had fun.
Being the type of guy who fucks lots of bitches and gets wasted, I can understand his jealously. Being 36, it is so fascinating to me that society has changed so completely since I was a teenager. Shit that was just a fantasy of mine when I was 19 became routine in my 30's.
I've been able to adapt very well, and I've prospered, but it's obvious that so many people are confused and angry about their expectations of this world we inhabit.
Parents probably fucked him up when he was a kid.

The way he carried himself was probably half of why he wasn't having success with women, the way he talks in his video is cringe worthy at best, his motions are also a bit on the awkward side.
It's hard to say that he should have just been more confident in himself, since I have issues with self image myself, but simply going out on foot and interacting with people in order to complete everyday chores builds self esteem, he seemed too set on riding around in his Bimmer alone all day. Before you reference his posts about being superior, know that it's easy to say those things when nobody is around to question you in person, he was probably very insecure in real life.

I'm going to have to disagree with you there (in principle). Someone could be the most intelligent person in the world, but still have mental health issues that cause them to act completely irrationally. It's not like he is a religious murderer going around thinking he is going to go to heaven and finally get laid if he kills a bunch of people. He probably had a very serious mental disease that went untreated, combined with a shitty spoiled self-righteous upbringing.
Much like someone could be an amazing athlete, but lose their performance due to an injury, someone can be really smart but literally "lose their mind" to mental illness and even depression.

Much like someone could be an amazing athlete, but lose their performance due to an injury, someone can be really smart but literally "lose their mind" to mental illness and even depression.I'm not saying untreated mental illness isn't a cause of so many of these types of situations, but when is the line drawn between someone being mentally ill and just a genuine piece of shit? One can argue that anyone who finds themselves capable of ending any human life without just cause, or anyone who has unprovoked malice towards another living being without reason is mentally ill. Where is the line and where is it just a terrible personality? I believe that the mind is nearly as incomprehensible and unquantifiable as religion and spirituality. I mean obviously there is more science behind it than religion with chemical imbalances that can be measured and studied in the brain, but we'd be kidding ourselves to think that science can quantify individuals thoughts. I'm getting a bit overly existentialist here with my point of view but its a dangerous slope to use mental illness as a scapegoat. (Not accusing you of doing such, but again, its becoming used as the only answer every time someone kills more than one person.)

Apparently he got shafted again before he died, his knocks were ignored cause no one answered the door at the sorority.
GOLETA, Calif. — Elliot Rodger pounded on the sorority house front door while, inside, the young women he yearned to slaughter were preparing for another Friday night.
The awkward 22-year-old was obsessed with exacting “retribution” for what he experienced as a lifetime of social and sexual isolation, and had planned meticulously to target as many people as possible, authorities say. But here again, he was denied access to those he felt should worship him.
So when no one answered after several minutes, Rodger improvised.
Walking around the corner, authorities say, he found a group of students and opened fire, then took off in his black BMW through the streets of a college beach town buzzing with end-of-school-year energy. Within 10 minutes, the rampage was over and Rodger was dead, apparently after shooting himself.
Denied again by people he hated, gunman in deadly California rampage took to the streets (http://www.theprovince.com/news/Denied+again+people+hated+gunman+deadly+California +rampage+took/9876569/story.html)

- So you're in a UC school where the hot women are a dime a dozen. (UCSB - where the hot white girls who didn't make it to UCLA, UC Berkeley or USC are)
- drives a BMW
- well off background (based on his dad's crib)
- halfer - so you think he would get all the american-born asian girls at least.
And this guy couldn't get any. I wonder what his upbringing was like ? Parents were probably too nice to him; just dumped money on him to fix whatever issues they recognized he had as a child and didn't discipline him properly.
**EDIT** - bleh... blanket statement again. I shouldn't assume it was the parent's fault. That was reaching too far.

Intelligence comes in many different forms, emotional, artistic, logical...
He obviously was smart but had no street sense and very little emotional intelligence. Probably had only a few default moods and couldn't party.
Fuck I bet I couldn't pass a GED test but I can read women and social situations along with spot good art from a mile away!
I agree intelligence comes in many forms, but what was intelligent about him? His use of a few big words that he repeats over and over again? His mediocre grades at a party college? His inability to have any social understanding? His "amazingly artistic and emotionally in depth" youtube videos? The kid is a fucking idiot through and through. He's a stupid, ugly, weak, cowardly, narcissistic piece of shit with a tiny dick. To say he has any redeeming quality is nonsense and giving him an unnecessary amount of credit for his meaningless waste of existence.

What the media isn't telling you about Elliott Rodger, the psycho killer who murdered six in a soulless rampage
Wow that article is spot-on!!!
Nope. No mental disease. I wouldn't credit grouping him with the people who posses real mental disorders.
- The kid was was able to appreciate what's right and what's wrong and consciously chose to do what's wrong in an effort to inflict pain and damage to the people he hated. There was no justification for what he did other than "revenge". There was no divine voice pushing him to cleanse the world.
- Please, mental disease but he has the forethought to plan, prepare and perpetrate his crime? The kid had a hit list. The kid had a kill heirarchy to maximize efficiency, and each kill had a motivation and purpose.
No, this kid didn't have a mental disease, there's no negating the loser that he is. All it is, is just a kid who wanted to destroy something of others that he couldn't have; Just like a child that would rather destroy someone else's toy just because he doesn't posses one of his own.
Social retardation, is not a mental disease.

First of all, it's not a "credit" to say someone has a mental disease, nor is it an excuse. It's either a fact, or it isn't. Try to take emotional response out of it. It's hard to do for people WITHOUT mental issues, but when it comes to science, you have to do this.

Exactly.

Being a sociopath does not preclude one from being able to intelligently plan things.

I can't say for sure that he did, just that I think he probably did. But you seem to be too emotionally invested to be able to have an opinion one way or another. It seems that you think having a mental disease is an "excuse" of some sort to justify what he did. It isn't... it's just a possibility. If you think having a mental disease takes away your ability to call him a "loser" and a "retard" and that's your reason for disputing it.. well there's no way to argue against that.

Good for you to conclude that the crux of my argument is about being able to label him a "loser" or "retard".
You just conveniently glossed over the fact that the argument I challenged was the idea that Elliot Roger was the victim of mental disease; a challenge that was made because in the context of crime, "mental disease" assumes that the individual is not responsible for his/her actions.
So what was your best rebuttal:
"uuuh, just because he can meticulously plan and heavily premeditate his crime doesn't mean he isn't "crazy".
That's it?
Honestly, I can see where you're coming from. Is the kid sad and depressed? Yeah definitely. Was the kid anti-social? Definitely not. He wants to be social, he yearns to be social, he's trying to be social. Socially awkward? Definitely yes, but not anti-social. Was he an angry and jealous kid? You bet.
Sorry but angry and depressed doesn't already mean "mental disease" to me. Additionally, just because his crime is particularly heinous doesn't mean that it must be "mental disease" as well.
I think you're too generous on connecting the dots here.

You didn't challenge anything, you just called him a "loser" and a "social retard" completely dismissing the possibility of him being crazy.
I'm not being "generous" either. There are TONS of people who are "forever alone" whiners who bitch and moan and don't do anything to improve themselves. There aren't very many who go on a shooting rampage, killing 6 people. The people who do the latter, my first assumption is going to be that it's not simply a "loser" who got fed up and just hates women, but rather someone with a deep seeded mental illness.
Fuck this piece of shit D-bag. We shouldn't be talking about him or even say his name or giving 'what if' scenarios regarding his pitiful existence.

Yes! Because like I said, the dots are just too far for me to connect. A sad, socially awkward and angry kid does not a mental illness make. That's exactly what my challenge is.

So are you saying that violence of such magnitude is possible only by fault of mental defect?
How about about examples of others who went on a rampage also motivated by disillusionment? Are the following also just victims of mental disease?
- Chris Dorner who went on a murdering spree because of his dissillusion with the police department, or authoritative bodies in general and the corruption of justice?
- Klebold & Harris who went on a rampage because of the current social culture that breeds outcasts.
- Timothy McVeigh who wanted to destroy as much as he can as an open revolt to a government he felt tyrannical.

His inability to have any social understanding?
I think because he had no masculine influence and nobody to show him game, his high intelligence chose to focus on everything nihilistic and negative about his existence. Intelligence can been seen as a lens that allows greater and greater possible focus when directed properly, his was simply focused on what he lacked. Not only that, but he knew he was on the bottom of the social totem pole and began to stew in his own rage.
Having higher testosterone, being more social, having more masculine influences, there are so many things that could have helped this kid OUTSIDE of therapy or coddling by mom. In fact, the coddling and feminine soft-glove therapist approach probably fucked him up waaaaaay more.
Having a tough life builds character, he had none.

Richard Martinez grew up around guns, shooting birds out of the fruit trees on his family’s farm. He later served as a military police officer in the U.S. Army before going on to become a criminal defense lawyer, at times representing the young and the violent.
Now, Martinez is a grieving father.
He’s asking members of Congress to stop calling him to offer condolences but nothing more for the death of his only child, Christopher Michaels-Martinez, who was killed in the rampage Friday in Santa Barbara, Calif.
“I don’t care about your sympathy. I don’t give a s--- that you feel sorry for me,” Richard Martinez said during an extensive interview, his face flushed as tears rolled down his face. “Get to work and do something. I’ll tell the president the same thing if he calls me. Getting a call from a politician doesn’t impress me.”
“I understand this is a complicated problem. I have friends who are in the NRA. I grew up on a farm. I hunted. I killed animals. I understand guns,” Martinez said. “But assault rifles and semiautomatic weapons? There is no need for those except in war.”

Mental illness and murdering rampages do not have any causal connection (probably) as you have pointed out. There are many people with mental illnesses that do not go on murdering rampages, and mass murderers who probably dont have mental illnesses.
There is no "benefit" to saying Rodgers does or does not have mental illness. We as a society judge people's actions and their mental capacity to commit said actions. The only mitigating factors seem to be clinical insanity and debilitating mental retardation, where consequences of actions are concepts that these individuals do not posess.
But in this case, it is quite clear that Rodgers does indeed have a mental illness, known as narcissistic personality disorder. Through his videos, one can take a glimpse into his mindset and notice the glaring symptoms or characteristics of this particular personality disorder. With this in mind, it would be disingenious to offhandly dismiss the very clear indications that he had a rather severe case of narcissism, and only call him a sad, angry, lonely loser. One cannot ignore his severe narcissism as a very probable cause of his murders.
Once again, whether or not he has the mental illness does not excuse his actions in any way, but only offers a slight explanation of why he did things, and perhaps a possible vector to help prevent further similar incidents.

I worry that this will spur on other men in similar scenarios, with similar delusions to do the same thing. Look at all of the attention he is getting. If he were still alive, he'd be loving this. Disturbing that there was actually a Facebook account that labelled him a hero. Think of the men in his shoes who might think "hey, great idea, except I won't kill myself at the end and then I'll be famous!"... Misogyny + sense of entitlement + narcissism = a dangerous cocktail. I wish I had never watched his videos, they're chilling, especially because I know there are more like him out there and we might start seeing more of them.

Sex = power
When people have no power, they get desperate.
When a woman wants sexual power, she becomes a stripper or pornstar which gets her money, possibly even rich + famous and crossing over into the mainstream. A man generally does not have this option for easy validation + attention.
Return of Kings had a great quote, society says to the introvert nerd "Let them eat cake", only this time, "cake" is actually video games and pornhub.
What we're witnessing, I think, is the future definition of our social strata. Some men cannot help but realize they are incapable of being loved for who they are, and instead of having a route for easy attention and fame through talent, their bodies or their minds, they turn to the only other clearly available route for who they think they are:
Mass violence.
http://static.guim.co.uk/sys-images/Guardian/Pix/pictures/2011/3/30/1301469109662/Video-grab-of-Cho-Seung-h-007.jpg
When Cho had this photo taken, do you think he wanted to appear frightening and powerful? Of course. He probably felt incredibly powerful looking at this and knowing the heartbreak he was about to cause literally thousands of people connected to the people he slaughtered, the faculty of the school, and the legacy of blood he would forever stain Virginia Tech with.
As much as women aspire to be icons of unrestrained sex, guys like Cho wanted to be remembered as icons of unrestrained violence.
Another point I'd like to make is that mass murder wasn't common before WW2; it has severely ramped up since the internet and the proliferation of anti-depressant use.
If women have a monopoly on sexual power, men have it on violence. Instead of restraining each other, both male and female, we encourage it. Shit, look at World Star Hip Hop's weekly suckerpunch compilations!!! Literally millions of people entertained by other people getting punched out and potentially getting brain damaged from landing unconscious, head-first on concrete. Pornstars get world wide attention on TV and are praised for showing off their narcissism, much like violent people are made out as anti-heros in the name of reality news/entertainment. What are the youth learning about how to get attention?
Who doesn't know about Columbine? Sandy Hook? Isla Villa?
Life is like a movie, the people who are desperate enough to be famous will find the easiest possible route to self-express.
Mental illness and murdering rampages do not have any causal connection (probably) as you have pointed out. There are many people with mental illnesses that do not go on murdering rampages, and mass murderers who probably dont have mental illnesses.

You don't really need to seek a "slight explanation" to determine the motivations behind his actions when he repeatedly admitted and documented them on his countless video blogs.
So why is the "mental illness" angle so signficant? to explain the cause of his motivations?
Despite you claiming that there's no excuse, if the "mental illness" is the cause of the motivation, and the motivation is reason behind the action, aren't we saying.... Elliot Rogers couldn't help his murder spree?

"Mental health" is obviously the new big thing - perhaps rightfully so - as more and more symptoms and a variety of terms all get funneled through into a big cup named Mental Health.
Take the rising number of people who are labelled with mental health problems, give them means of grouping and planning acts of terrible violence, provide them with easy outlets of acquiring tools needed to carry out these plans, and you have these tragic events that seem to happen more frequently.
50 years ago, crazy people lived in the woods with 400 cats. Now they plan and execute mass murder.

We are not the lovable nerdy protagonist who’s lovable because he’s the protagonist. We’re not guaranteed to get laid by the hot chick of our dreams as long as we work hard enough at it. There isn’t a team of writers or a studio audience pulling for us to triumph by “getting the girl” in the end. And when our clever ruses and schemes to “get girls” fail, it’s not because the girls are too stupid or too bitchy or too shallow to play by those unwritten rules we’ve absorbed.
It’s because other people’s bodies and other people’s love are not something that can be taken nor even something that can be earned—they can be given freely, by choice, or not.

"man can do what he wills, but cannot will what he wills."
our idealistic teachings on how to fix these problems are just that, idealistic.
until we can edit our genetics to not feel these things... we're just a broken record, with each generation being born into what nature has programmed us to do, and then us... trying to reprogram them unsuccessfully. repeating over and over again, for all of eternity. like everything else.
men desire women (well most men do). there is a deeper problem... how can you desire something and not objectify it?
it's impossible.

you just have to think deeper.
think about what "desire" is.
we're not talking about sympathy, empathy, love, compassion, or any of that shit.
not talking about a womans personality, or whatever.
those are things above desire.
you cannot, DESIRE something, without objectifying it.
desire is purely an egocentric emotion/thought. desire is completely self fulfilling.
women, are born into desire. all she has to do is be born into existence, and there is objective desire for her, regardless of anything else. just the fact that she is a WOMAN, makes her a commodity amongst men.
REGARDLESS of morals, ethics, or values and your beliefs. that is the way it is.
the sex industry is dominated by men, and the product is women.
you think this is just because women are weaker? and have been conned into acting this way? and because of labels and other social programming?
no. it's because they can provide something that is in demand.
I don't want a man's love. i don't want to fuck men. i don't wanna be with a man like i wanna be with a woman.
that fact alone already objectifies them.
and the fact that they can provide pleasure that straight men cannot find anywhere else (and the majority of men are straight)...
simple economics man.
men desire women. almost every industry revolves around that.
men wanna get their dicks sucked. wanna fuck women. wanna have a womans love. they want all that is woman. in THEIR lives. LUST for women.
thats where desire leads to possession. because men don't wanna share either. it's in our nature to possess things.
and it's in our nature to want things that are possessed. that's where murder comes in.
if i wanted to date your wife cuz of whatever reasons (looks/personality whatever)... would you let me?
or would you simply let her make the choice cuz she's a human being?
nope... possession. desire not to share. desire for her to be yours.
objectifying.
it's UNAVOIDABLE.
it's simple. if men objectify other men, and utilize other men for power, work, connections, etc.
what makes you think they're gonna suddenly stop objectifying women? lol.
MEN DON'T EVEN TREAT THEIR OWN EQUALLY.
the problem isn't men, or humans, or women.
the problem is our ideology of thinking we're more pure and divine than we really are.
we're fucking humans. not angels. masters of exploiting, masters of bending things to our desire. masters of adapting, for the sake of getting what we want, the way we want it.
feminism is just that, an ideology that cannot be realised till humans cease to be humans, and transcend into something else... and then we'll have bigger ideological problems we have created for ourselves.
like multicartual said, he woulda hung out with him and shown him around and helped him learn how to mingle with girls more successfully.
but no one did. and no one tried.
instead they're bickering about objectifying of women and all that other bullshit.
the focus shoulda been, SOMEONE SHOULDA HELPED HIM OUT LIKE A REAL BRO.
of course ideally...
instead, we humans do what humans do. we objectified him into a monster and point fingers and laughed.
lol... doesn't anyone else see how self defeating that is to the topic of objectifying things?! LOL.
there's no respect. no respect=objectifying.
and from what i've seen and read of all of human history... respect is always earned, and can be quickly taken away.
so what makes you think anyone wants to respect any woman for no reason? what makes you think anyone wants to respect any MAN for any reason? i'm talking realistically. from results of what humans have left for all of recorded history.
there has never been a period where all humans were born INTO respect.
it just doesn't happen.
a human, when shown a better path, will always pick that path. but the problem is no one shows them properly. instead they just laugh and point fingers.
we're all objects to each other at best. if you disagree, feel free to explain how we aren't.
I don't see very many people sacrifice their own time and health for others for no apparently reason other than the fact that they are a fellow human being. not like an ant does for her fellow ant siblings, without ego, without second thought, acting as one... selfless sacrifice, for any brethren of the colony, for any reason, at any given time.
but we don't act as one. because we objectify everything. ego. we view ourselves as ME/I. and not we.
the very thought of
"I am my own person" is the perpetuation of hate, discrimination and objectification. any view where you don't view them as a fully functioning part of yourself. anything to do with "I". ego.

you just have to think deeper.
think about what "desire" is.

It's borderline sociopathy.
He is taking one side "we're humans, it's in our nature to be animalistic blah blah blah" without actually considering that part of being human is considering things like dignity. An ant doesn't consider another ant's dignity. Neither do any other animals - except humans. If you want to live like an actual animal who doesn't consider anything like that, where everything is literally an object, go right ahead. You might want to move away from other people though, because that kind of thinking isn't acceptable in actual society.
If you see a woman and you desire to mate with her, go ahead and have those feelings. We all do. But then something kicks in - your ability to think of her as a person. Not an ant, a person with a conscience.
I don't know WHY humans are different in this way. That is a whole other debate. But we are, and you kind of have to act like it. Otherwise go live in an ant colony if you prefer it that way.
Also the whole "respect is earned, not given" mantra is utter bullshit. EVERY other human deserves respect. Respect is always given, and can be lost.

I dont know about that... when animals bury their dead isn't that a sign of dignity? (at least 3 are said to do so)
or even mating rituals...in a way shows an understanding
or when they excommunicate members of their own group (lions, chimps, etc do this)
etc

No, in my opinion that's an anthropomorphised interpretation of it
There are theories that some animals are cognisant - elephants and whales for instance. But I don't know enough about that. I would still assume that they are just animals doing what they do for some reason we don't understand. Or maybe they are cognisant, who knows. There's a lot of reading to be done, starting here...
But then if you are basing your life on how elephants live rather than humans, that's not much better than ants.

It isn't a choice. Your mind processes shit unconsciously and when you walk into a social situation your mind will decide what to think about someone LOOOOOOONG before you're consciously aware of it.
You can tell yourself you give respect to everyone consciously, and it is nice to think that way, but realistically you judge everyone based on established social conventions.

The thing thats more unfortunate than humans natural programming to judge based on preconceived notions are people being to self righteous to believe that they do it. Its the way we are wired, its not just based on the stereotypical belief of preconceived notions like racism, sexism, etc. Its works for positive things as well. Its the way our brains process information. People will always associate certain characteristics with certain previous information and interactions. Its one thing that I believe humans are the only species on earth that are capable of believing their conscious thoughts have eliminated their unconscious.
SkinnyPupp

I think you guys are thinking too deeply into the 'preconceived notions' thing. Of course you will react differently to say, a 50 year old woman compared to an 8 year old boy. And maybe if you met a homeless junkie, you might have different 'preconceived notions' towards him than, say, Trevor Linden.
But that's all beside the point anyway. This point is that we're not the same as animals, and you can't use the convenient fallacy that we evolved from them as an excuse for things like rape and murder.

I'm not using it as an excuse. Obviously there are levels of control, I think you and ulic are speaking on far different levels, and saying hes sociopathic shows you just don't understand what hes getting at. REASON is far different than an excuse and the reason he is getting at is in the sense of a variable in an experiment.
There is no excuse for rape or murder in any sense of the word but there is still a reason.

Yeah and in this case to me the apparent reason is mental health. But others argue with me about that.
The comments about being able to view people as objects of desire is what I consider to be sociopathic. You can't look at people as being the same as you would an ant or a phone or a car, unless something is seriously wrong with you. This is what happened with this kid though, and according to Ulic we are all supposed to think this way.

Well we are both looking at it differently then, as I'm not seeing that he believes we are supposed to, but that its the way we are programmed to. As an advanced species that operates as a society however, nurture has overpowered nature so to speak (as I believe it should) for the benefit of humans as a whole. That we can agree on I'm sure. Humans as an undeveloped species however operated exactly how ulic stated, and it really wasn't that long ago in the grand scheme of things.

It's been long enough that if you still act like an "undeveloped species", there is something wrong with your brain. And that's what I keep saying I think happened to this kid.

So you think that the only way a person can act with extreme violence, or possess extreme narcissism, or extreme depression is to have a defect of the brain?
It's like you totally don't accept at all that a person could be of sound mind and choose to commit an act of extreme violence. It's funny when you argue that it's mental health is not an excuse to this incident when in effect that's exactly what you're doing.

No, I'm saying that in this case that's what I think happened. Other people brought up other killers, as part of trying to build a strawman argument against my assumption.
Also I could be wrong, I am fully willing to admit that. But nobody has given me compelling evidence to suggest otherwise. However I don't know for sure, so I am not arguing too vehemently.
What I will argue against is the idea that when you desire something, it's automatically objectified. If you think like that, then you are as sick in the head as I think this guy was, sorry.

Well duh!
Are soldiers who kill mentally ill?
Are women who participate in Facial Abuse mentally ill? How about the viewers? Some of that stuff looks pretty brutal. Same with the fake-gangbang rape stuff Kink makes. Google "Christian girl gang rape Kink dot com" and tell me that isn't pretty brutal and sadistic.
Besides, what you were arguing about was:
What I will argue against is the idea that when you desire something, it's automatically objectified.
Hmmm. That's a deeper philosophical debate, but I'm pretty certain when I see a cool car or a hot chick I immediately do objectify them before getting to know more about them. Maybe we do objectify everything before we mentally digest what they mean to us personally and how they relate to those around us. Could very well be that some people are unable to differentiate healthy objectification from unhealthy.
Ever had your prostate examined? When you do it, it's like "Oh shit I'm going to the doc to get my ass probed, hope I don't have cancer!" It is total healthy objectification of the doctor. It's not personal. It's not like David Chu is sticking his finger in your ass, it's just The Doctor.
Porn is a great example of objectification that can turn unhealthy. Men can objectify porn sluts allllllll day long to get off, but if they take the objectification mindset they develop on the computer beating off to real life, they can turn into huge assholes who treat regular women like objects. It's something I think we're going to see much, much more of. When women speak of "rape culture" they're really speaking of objectification spill-over into the real world, IMO.
