Well, you're really the expert as you've likely driven them while we are generally limited to watching and reading about them, but I would go with the Maclaren 650s. I actually prefer the Carrera GT but the reputation for it being an incredibly difficult car to drive would be enough to prevent me driving it on public streets. If I were looking for a track car, however, I would go with it.

RIP PAUL WALKER!!
And still I would take the risk with my life if it means I could drive a Carrera GT. Dangerous car to drive and stiff clutch but what a adrenalin rush it would be to drive.
Anybody who says they wouldn't take a Carrera GT if given the opportunity then they don't know just how good that car is. Widely regarded as better than the F40 and have the sexiest car exhaust tone even better than 360 Challenge Stradale W/Tubi

Just looking for a fun car to drive both on streets and track. I like the idea of the CGT for it being a good investment. I just dont want another car that will be worth half what i bought it for in 2 years time.
I think the Mclaren is great performance but will drop the most in price, The CGT will be the best value but the ferrari would be great performance and i think it would hold its value well.

both 458 and 650S will drop in value rapidly... for the next 10 years.
CGT imo is still one class above the 458 and 650S. CGT being the hyper limited production hyper car, the 650S a supercar for masses and the 458 being a limited volume low weight special.
CGT - for investment/ enjoyment
458 - track day
650 S - street machine / track day
end of the day, its how much money you want to lose for your enjoyment!

Porsche Carrera GT: US$448,000
Ferrari 458 Italia: US$227,325
McLaren 650S: US$265,000

I'm sceptical that you are eyeing any of these cars but if their is a 1% chance you have the funds to purchase may I suggest you ask questions to car enthusiasts who actually own the cars:

I would go with the 458 as I prefer the look of the car the most
but a part of me thinks the 650s might be more fun to drive out of the two
im not a fan of the look of the cgt nor its reputation of being hard to drive so it wouldn't even be considered

Well i raced shifter karts, openwheel formula cars and cup cars for 10 years of my life so yea i have an idea of how to drive a standard. I dont think its quite as hard as downshifting a formula 2000 without using the clutch and bliping to sync the revs :)

Thanks for all your help guys i think ive narrowed it down to the 458 and the CGT.
Ill let you know what i decide! As for SharkTank asking why i ask these forums; I ask them since i have been around these forums a long time and i feel like the people on these forums love cars, not just the image a car gives you or as some say the "Baller status" but for the pure love of cars and how they can make someone feel when you are driving.
Cheers again guys thanks!

considering fuel economy and tank size the Ferrari will allow you to drive 20% further under legal conditions. A range of approximately Seattle to sun peaks ski resort listening to the engine.

CGT for an investment for sure but as a driver, meh. I rode in one on track at 9/10th's and it was pretty nice but not the craziest shit ever like some people say. Kinda rough to be honest. I think the hype outweighs the car but it has the third pedal so purists(myself included) gravitate to it. Also very limited production. I like it for some reasons but then I don't for others. Out of your 3 choices I would probably choose the 458.
Have you narrowed it down to these 3 choices or are you open to others? I'm kinda stuck on the F430 Scud after driving one so I'd lean towards that over the 458. Just personal preference though.
Good luck!

CGT is the only one that really gets me excited, that said I'd be test driving all of them and then a few other cars to boot, just to be sure I'm going to be satisfied with the purchase.

at the limits you can probably tame the 458 and 650s with greater ease or you can drive the CGT and make the car dance like senna

Every rich "new money" person buys a 458. If the Mclaren was P1 it might be in consideration. The Carrera GT would get the attention from every car enthusiast and non car enthusiast. The respect of driving a Carrerra GT even though most dont have the balls to instead they just hard park them in their garages.
Why do I have a feeling the people who chose the 458 never heard a Carrerra GT in person with test pipes. Think you would change your mind instantly

I think McLaren isn't anything special for their mid-range supercars. MP4 12C, 650S, they're kinda like nah...
The McLaren F1 was legendary, engineed by Gordon Murray. I still think Honda was an idiot for refusing to be a part of McLaren F1 project.
Gordon Murray asked Honda 3 times and they kept saying no.
and the P1 is pretty nice too.

Don't get me wrong I think the 458 is ferrari best looking new supercar but the reason everyone buying it because they're not any options. The FF looks like ass, the California is a trophy wife's/goal digger car. The laferrari out of reach even for most millionaires same goes for the 599 GTO. What options you have left are 458 that's the reason everyone and their rich cousin buy it.

Most refined yet is a paddle shifter/automatic
Ughhh... NO!
Refined would be a CGT 6 speed. Refined would be a GT3 RS in 6 speed. Refined would be a F40 in 6 speed. Anyone can drive a paddle shifter but it takes skill to drive a exotic with 400+HP
Sick of the car companies catering to the "new money" clientele who can't be bothered to drive a stick shift. It's all in the image now look at what I drive, look at my car, look how much money I have everybody, look look look I'm a baller.
Even Porsche is selling out with their new GT3/Turbo PDK. VW going to be the death of Porsche as we know it. Another reason why GT3 RS/GT3/993 are appreciating. People going to regret how good a manual car is once car manufacturers stop building them forever.

Look. I like manual as much as the next guy but quit thinking that having manual transmission is the only way to drive a car. Modern flappy paddle gearboxes are so quick and accurate that just about every supercar has them...because they do it better than we humanly can. Refined means better, more polished and a more elegant solution. Obviously Top Gear should be taken as entertainment but they've shown over the years that double clutch automatic is clearly faster around the track and better to drive.
You're the car equivalent of those girls that simply must buy books from bookstores despite Amazon being 50% cheaper.
underscore
07-22-2014, 09:14 AM
I find the feeling of slotting it into gear and the increased driver input more important than the speed of selection, from a purely mathematical standpoint yes the flappy paddle is better but from a sensation standpoint I find it hard to believe it's more exciting than rowing your own gears. Admittedly I've never driven a Ferrari so it's a bit of a moot point really.
