NORTH VANCOUVER (NEWS1130) (http://www.news1130.com/2014/08/22/dozens-of-cars-keyed-in-north-vancouver/) – Mounties in North Vancouver are trying to track down a “person of interest” after 47 cars were keyed over the August long weekend.
Police say it happened at various car lots in the city. The total damage is estimated at $100,000.
The person of interest is described as a white man between 50 and 60 years old, heavier-set and balding. He was wearing a yellow shirt, green shorts, a black watch and black boots the weekend the cars were scratched.
Anyone with information is asked to call North Vancouver RCMP at 604-985-1311 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477 (TIPS).

In my world - this dude got struck by a monster truck on his way home.
And then a passing bear took a dump on his face and proceeded to chew his legs off.

Well, that dude who was keying cars in Coquitlam had some mental issue, so who knows what this guy's problem is.
If he is trying to get back at ICBC for something, this is a great way to get the public on his side and possibly jack up his own rates. :rukidding:

Probably a mental issue

99% of the homeless on the DTES... men. So many fucking crazy men down here it is not funny. There are women's shelters and tons of women-only resources. The women don't have to line up like cattle to be fed, either.
Funny how the CrossFit 604 location where tattooed vanilla yuppies pay $300 a month to work out is right next door to a homeless shelter where men receive $500 a month on welfare.
Men are soooooooooo disposable

I would demand a whole exterior paint job on my car cuz the color matching would be horrible and decrease resale value.
what are the chances of wining such argument?

I could be wrong but I heard they were dealership lots, so cars that aren't even sold to anyone yet.

At my dealership we have kids jumping on the hoods of lot cars. So far we are up to 28 of these.....all new hoods, many need new engine cover and all need paint....its gets expensive thats for sure.

mischief over $5000 would be the charge presumably.
Section 430 of the CCC suggests that the punishment can be one of the following:
Punishment
(2) Every one who commits mischief that causes actual danger to life is guilty of an indictable offence and liable to imprisonment for life.
Punishment
(3) Every one who commits mischief in relation to property that is a testamentary instrument or the value of which exceeds five thousand dollars
(a) is guilty of an indictable offence and liable to imprisonment for a term not exceeding ten years; or
(b) is guilty of an offence punishable on summary conviction.
Idem
(4) Every one who commits mischief in relation to property, other than property described in subsection (3),
(a) is guilty of an indictable offence and liable to imprisonment for a term not exceeding two years; or
(b) is guilty of an offence punishable on summary conviction.
my guess is that if he has no criminal record and no convictions in bc then he'd get a summary conviction (i.e. "slap on the wrist").
if proceeding by indictment then he'd face some sort of jail sentence.

Have one of the stupid PPG paint colors which are impossible to paint match like Bianco Fuji, and the chances of winning are rather high, I know of a yellow Gallardo that had a full respray because of this very problem..

Fuck wouldn't even want an aftermarket paint job replacing the stock one :( would be deviatated if I had a half decent car

Non licensed cars will be under the dealership's own insurance.. and since the car are likely to be unlicensed, any repair will not show up on ICBC records. so buyer beware. It would be nice to know which dealership or marque is involved.

depends on the car i guess, but run of the mill cars would probably get declined. color matching is the whole point of blending panels adjacent to the damaged panel

I would fucking cry if I needed to paint my car. When I blew the engine, it sucked, but I didn't care because once a new motor was in it would be just as good as new. I don't care how good a body shop is, I've never seen a repaint look as good as a QUALITY cars oem paint. Not saying it doesn't exist, but its like finding a unicorn.

^ I think it's all in relation to cost, as in i'd take a guess to say a $20,000 paint job would look as good, if not better than OEM.

True, but ICBC would write off my car (and many others) long before that happens.

No, the record services only list claims of registered cars.. car not registered while the damage / repair is done, nothing will show up.

That's pretty shady. So will the dealer still sell the cars as new or what.
godwin
08-28-2014, 02:25 PM
Why? A lot of cars suffer damages during transit.. hence that's why those mobile touch up services are in existence. Most people don't ask anyways. It is shady only if they misrepresent themselves.

If most people knew what happened to there cars before they received them they would be appalled.
I have seen (in the years I have been in this business) cars that have had crushed fenders, flooded interiors, TONS of paint defect. Panel repaints on cars, dent pulling, respraying....and yes, they are able to still sell them as new vehicles.
It is up to the dealer to disclose things to the consumer if they wish to do so but I imagine most of them do not.

Yup in fact if you go to the docks at Annacis Island you will see countless cars which were damaged either in their yards, or during the shipping process.
The docks actually have their own body shop, and repair many vehicles without even the dealer knowing.
Cars go through so many different hands before they reach their first owner, there is almost zero accountability.
