What is the requirement for the roll bar for convertibles? And helmet?

Depends on what kind of racing and the group you are with.

Auto-X does not require a roll bar (depend on class) but you need a helmet.
Drag requires a roll bar when you get fast enough and a helmet if fast enough too.

As for clubs or courses. There are a few track days out at Mission that cost around $250 and come with instruction and track time.
There are also a few Auto-X clubs.

I do want to get a set of roll bar and make my car meet most local requirements and not having to worry about changing it in the future if I join other clubs. Car is a 92 miata. On the clubs website it says "fixed" roll bar is required so I am not sure what they are trying to say.

Would this be enough? My guess is not but I'm gonna ask anyway :)

Auto-X
VCMC Motorsport Club | Vancouver's Fastest Motorsport Club (http://www.vcmc.ca/)
UBCSCC | University of British Columbia Sports Car Club (http://www.ubcscc.com/)

Both of those clubs do events at Mission road course as well.

The bar I see a lot in Miata's at events are the HardDog bars. Worth checking out. They seem to have very good reviews.

Those are 'style bars'
As stated above, look into Harddog bars.

There was a time that Mission was OK with factory roll hoops. Not sure if those rules changes. PR, Ridge, ORP, PIR require a full 4 point though

It mainly depends on who is running the trackday event, but most clubs will requite a 4 pt roll bar like the hard dog bar that the last few posts have stated.
As far as I remember, all the clubs that run at Mission will require a roll bar.
PR the same thing. PIR as well. I've heard of private track days that do not require roll bars at Ridge and ORP but things might have changed or will change for next year.

Those chrome rounded style bars are NOT legal as they are not designed to protect you in a roll over.
OE roll bars like the S2000 or pop up bars like on convertible BMW's do not count either.

Whoever made style bars should be shot..

I installed a harddog bar in my old miata in an afternoon with my dad. Was pretty cool and is a good learning experience, highly recommended.

I've seen NB Miatas run at Mission with those silly roll hoops. I also ran my NA Miata with no bar at all... it's up to the club. Personally, you should have a bar.
