Booooo not feeling it. I hate how films have moved away from animaltronics. The original film was so scary because of all the lifesize dinosaurs they created, now all these films use CG, and it just doesn't look real, it's too fake.

Very disapointed.

Traum

I wasn't gonna let myself have any presumptions or expectations about the movie until I can at least see the trailer. And now that I have, I have some very mixed feelings about it.

On one hand, the trailer seems to suggest that the movie is entirely a complete re-hash of the original Jurassic Park. You send some regular Joe to a dinosaur theme park, the scientists re-create the dinos from some extinct DNA, some of the dinosaur(s) turn out to be deadly, chaos ensues as everyone tries to get the fxxk out of the park. The previous movies in the series were following the similar man-vs-dino theme as well, but this one is just a blatant ripoff of the original in almost every sense of the plot. On that front, everything is predictable and in fact has already been seen before. When I look at the movie that way, it will be boring as fxxk.

On the other hand, watching this movie will literally be like a trip down the memory lane again. I watched the original movie as a dumba$$ teenager, and was completely left in awe. As a dumba$$ teen, I obviously thought the animatronics were awesome, but when I watched the movie again as an adult, there were obvious flaws to those. From the trailer, it doesn't seem to me that the CG dinosaurs were too fake, and I can still easily fool myself into thinking everything was real.

Gonna be looking forward to seeing this one on the big screen. I hope it won't disappoint.

Many of the dinosaur scenes in the original were CGI as well (20 year old CGI at that!) including the first Brachiosaurus sighting, the Gallamimus stampede, the T-Rex chase, just off the top of my head from my childhood obsession with the movie.

It's kind of odd to suggest the CGI here is any less realistic than the CGI from 20 years ago, although the original cleverly used a mix of animatronic and CGI and dino-suits in scenes suitable to each method.

SkinnyPupp

This is exactly what I hate in modern movies. EVERYTHING is CG. If I want to watch a cartoon, I'll watch Pixar or Disney.

At the time, those scenes were breathtaking because no-one had ever done it before to such effect. Now when you watch the movie, they look cheesy and dated. And now every other big movie has replaced everything with CG, and 99% of the time it still looks cheesy and fake. Especially when they try to animate humans.

How do you know if I am going to see it or not? I am not going to waste a dime watching this if the trailer accurately represents what the movie will be. If reviews prove otherwise, I may reconsider. I have been wrong about movies based on their trailers before (notably Edge of Tomorrow which looked stupid but I ended up seeing it based on recommendations, and loved it)

Not all of us are mindless retards who just throw money at everything that cheaply appeals to our nostalgic side.

Jurassic World...hmm rated compared with the other Jurassics...I'd say it's as good as Jurassic Park 2...corny, some laughs, cheesy, some action, Jessica Chastain doesn't look as comical as she does in the trailer with that getup, she's damn sexy...it was alright could've been better it felt like they had a good base for a fine movie, but never followed through developing characters and story lines

6/10

It's no where as epic as the first. I think one of the biggest reasoning is Spielberg himself helmed the entire first film. In addition to the WOW factor in the first one because OMFG DINOSAUR

The OMFG thing of this one has to be imdomius Rex. But that's just the film wanting to tr to wow ppl

I'll repost my review from the movie thread:

Jurassic World: 2/10

It was pretty much exactly what I had expected. I would have given it a 3 or 4, if not for the excruciating ad placement shots. That's just fucking insulting. The raptors looked like silly cartoons most of the time, and nothing really made any sense. Stuff just happened because you're supposed to sit your face in front of the screen and watch shit happen. Evil dinosaurs, goodguy dinosaurs, everything.

Funny, in many ways this movie was the exact opposite of Mad Max. If that movie is how you make a proper action movie, this one is the last of the modern action movie that will eventually become extinct (at least for a while). At least that's the hope.

And my post from Facebook:

If there's a threshold at which product placement in a movie becomes too much to stand, Jurassic World went well past it for me.

The movie lived up to my low expectations, but the constant product placement made it less enjoyable than it could have been. I don't mind when a movie uses real products - take a picture of a dinosaur with a Nikon camera, smuggle embryos in a fake barbasol can, use Reece's Pieces to entice an alien out of your garage, I don't care.

But do you REALLY need to take a huge tv-commercial-like sip of Classic Coke before continuing the discussion? Or say "Wanna see something really cool?" right before you pull up in front of the camera in your shiny new Mercedes? Does EVERYONE need to be drinking Starbucks ALL THE TIME?

I watched it over the weekend and I was entertained. For a summer popcorn-flick, what more can I ask for?

Anybody else enjoy reading the trivia/goofs sections on IMDB? For the product placement, they had this to say for Jurassic World:

The product placement in the film was not at the behest of the studio, but was rather the idea of the writers and director Colin Trevorrow as a way to satirize the corporatization of popular entertainment.

The whole parent divorce thing was stupid and completely misplaced. Kid out of no where emos up and some how realizes right there that their parents are getting divorced but we hear nothing of it again. Prior to that the dad's like "last family breakfast ever". Why was this thrown in, what emotional strings were they attempting to pull on a fuckong dinosaur action movie?

Chris Pratt's brand of humor is great for now but it wears thin after a point.

Maybe I went into it not to hope for a Dark Knight/Inception quality movie, but just a good couple hours of entertainment. I was entertained, and I didn't get all uptight about the shit you guys complain about. Ya there were some product placements, some cheesy bits, some "really?" bits, and some acting that could have been better, but just go and watch a movie for what it is once in a while.

It wasn't as good as JP1 was at the time, but JP at the time was, and still is, one of the best and most awe inspiring movies of all time. But it was significantly better than JP2 and JP3. It wasn't a movie that will go down in time as one of the greats, but do they always have to aim for that? It was a pretty entertaining movie, overall I enjoyed it, and I would recommend seeing it.

Anyone who says a movie like this is a 2/10 or that they fell asleep in it is full of shit and just being dramatic. Its a watchable 6.9/10 (using all 10 numbers on the scale) and if you fell asleep you need to be medicated.

It's the way they frame those shots that are annoying. It's like the director is blatantly shooting a car commercial.
