Vancouver’s latest reality show, HBICtv: Ultra Rich Asian Girls, will be launched sometime over the next few weeks after a highly successful casting call over the summer.

The casting video went viral on multiple online platforms, drawing 300,000 views on YouTube and 2.8 million in China.

The web-based reality series, produced by local television producer Kevin Li, explores the lives of the daughters of affluent, Mandarin-speaking Chinese-Canadians living in Vancouver.

How rich are the women exactly? At the moment, no information has been made public ahead of the launch, but they have inherited large fortunes.

They are deemed to be young independent women starting their life and careers with the newest Hermes Birken bags and Yves Saint Laurent shoes while vying for the status of “HBIC” – the “Hot B*tch In Charge.”

I definitely don't agree with your last line. In my experiences, earned income is tougher to spend. Why, because I know the value of money. I can't "burn" money the same way these rich people can. Among all the billionaires out there, many (I'd say the majority) of them had at least a millionaire dad. Yet still, it takes incredible amount of talent and work to go from million to billion and not many are capable of doing that.

You see all the rich asian dude/chicks here in Van, they most likely have a millionaire dad. But how many will actually develop further into billionaires? probably none. And their parents probably don't expect them to be either. They just want to give the best to their children and let them do whatever they couldn't do when growing up. And that's totally ok IMHO.

It comes down to mentality really. For all the Rothchilds and even Kennedys, they were taught to continue to expand their wealth given their resources, and many of them were very successful at that. Chelsea, Coco, Florence and Joy — these are the four “ultra rich” Asian girls who will take Vancouverites on a tour of the town that goes beyond the budgets of all but the super wealthy.

There’s Chelsea, a University of B.C. mathematics graduate hoping to use her math and fashion sense to import, export and design her own line of clothes.

Coco, the youngest of the bunch at just 19, is an “aspiring TV entertainer” hoping to use the show as a launch to her career.

Florence lived in Montreal for 12 years before heading off to Milan, Italy to study fashion — she’s now starting her own line of clothes.

And last, but not least, is Joy, a 21-year-old international student who has only been in Canada for a year. She aspires to be a model.

Kevin Li, the producer and director of the YouTube-only show, said it was initially intended for a Chinese audience only. English viewers can expect much of the initial episodes to be in Chinese, with English subtitles.

Through the first season’s 13 episodes, viewers will be given first-class tickets to some of the best places the Lower Mainland has to offer: the Black + Blue steakhouse, River Rock Casino, the Empress Hotel, the Hastings Racetrack, at the Luxury Supercar Weekend — there’s even a week spent in Europe.

“They have their own take on this culture of drama — you’ll see that in the show as it goes on,” Li said.

“What I call it is like the Chinese way of ‘death by a thousand paper cuts’ — jabs here and there.”

Plans for seasons two and three are in the works, depending on the interest in the first season, which launches Oct. 26 at 7 p.m. on YouTube by searching HBICtv. Episodes air weekly.

Seriously. Vancouver sun, province, CTV, all over reporting on this. I thought it was supposed to be a fairly amateur-ish, bush league web series that will appeal to a small niche.
