Hey guys. Just need some advice on how to import cars from japan. Im lookong at getting an r33 gtr but I dont know how I should approach this. Do you guys suggest brokers or the auctions? Ive browsed jpc trade and those kinds of sites but has anyone actually had any good/bad experiences with any of the sites? Any recommendations? I know the companys that bring import cars themselves and sell them here like tyeeimports are usually bad
Thanks guys

Looking into this as well.
Looking to import a car myself/privately. Not interested in buying from a dealership here.

Checked tradecarview out a few days ago, found a car I want with super low kms. Talked to the dealer a bit and he said it was in accident but they don't have any information on the accident. Sounds kind of sketchy.

broo seriously bro, bro.
i'm saying do your research within that site. the dealers themselves. don't buy an R grade.
sometimes you can find an amazing deal on that site, sometimes you get a lemon. just like anywhere else.
and maybe don't stick to rs as your only source of research :p

go sign up with jdmconnection.com or brave auto. you can get access to auctions, look at statistics sales and see what cars you like have sold for. if youve paid a deposit they will look at any car in person and bid on it on your behalf. their fees are quite reasonable

Check out some of the review for different Exporters:

Lots of good info there.

i bought my EVO from Mark at Brave Auto
I bought my Stepwagon from Derek at Pacific Coast JDM
I would strongly reccomend both!
Also, if you don't feel too good about dealing with all the paperwork and taxes, fees, inspecting once the car arrives in Canada, talk to BEN at Fraser Valley Imports. He offers a service that takes care of everything here in Canada once the car arrives and you get to just pick it up from him, all ready to go!

So much easier to just pay the many jdm dealers here.

If the car you want isn't just becoming legal (ie you guys mentioned R33 and R32 Skylines) I'd just buy one that someone else already imported, you'll pay a lot less and get to see/drive the car in person before buying it.
I went through Feast Auto Group (http://www.feastautoexport.com/) in Japan. Quite an easy process to initiate, tell them the specifics of what you're looking for and your price range. They get back to you with pics and a test drive video, if you like it they arrange export, tell you the name of the ship it'll be on (I tracked the ship on vesselfinder website). They mail you documentation, you go pick it up from Annacis Island with a temp insurance permit, get it inspected (which can take awhile if parts are needed, or if you opt to replace some parts like I did), then you just register/insure and away you go. I got a great price on a vehicle that passed inspection with very little effort.

WOW. There is an insane amount of horrible cars at even more horrible prices. Is this website really indicative of the market over there?

Nah that site is usually just like that. pretty shitty. braveauto auction is the best indicator as it gives you examples of previous sales for similar rated cars

PM Me I can help/guide you, not a dealer either. My R32 just got loaded on the ship today :eek5r:
A plain R33 GTR will run you 11-13K landed, once you start looking at Midnight Purple R33's and heavy modded ones you start going a bit north of 14-17K landed.
Trade car view is shit, and so is japan partner
R Grade cars can be good, or bad, and reality is some of the R cars I've seen are in better shape than the 4 grade stuff. And you cannot bid at a Japanese auction unless you are in Japan with a dealer licence.

really? a guy I used to work with used it for skylines, delicas, gtos, wrx's, lots of vehicles that he imported for himself and his friends. Maybe he just got lucky ? but I used to check out what was going through auctions all the time the prices seemed reasonable. :blueguy:

Just going to pop by and say that I've had my two cars imported through William at jdmconnection. I'd recommend him. :)

Be careful with the headlights. As far as I know, for R33 it's not DOT or Euro headlights, so if cops stop you, you will be screwed.
