A friend gave me his 2012 iMac (fat 24"), is there any way to hook it up with my PC's VGA port?

I have the Macbook VGA converter (displayport -> VGA), but not sure if I need additional part for this connection.

I don't think the iMac has video inputs since it was meant to be used as a standalone computer. You might be able to get some sort of video recording USB adapter but it won't be the same.

iMacs have something called Target Display Mode (TDM) (http://support.apple.com/en-ca/ht3924) that'll allow the iMac to be used an external monitor. However, now that it's Thunderbolt, it only looks like Macbooks and iMacs are supported.

Check into getting a "rocket fish". That should be able to give you the connection you need.
