Xiaomi set top box

My mom said her friend got a Xiaomi set top box from Yaohan Center that gives her 300 channels of Asia live tv.

Anyone got one?
How much? Any monthly fee?
Is it really 300 channels?
My guess it streams over wifi?

TIA

just set one up for my father in law yesterday. I think the box itself was around $100, no monthly fees as far as I can tell.
I'm not sure how many channels, but it looked like it got all the TVB stuff and a bunch of taiwanese channels (i'm sure there's more too..)
Yeah, all streams over wifi via a DNS in china

Do you need to find your own VPN for it or will everything be setup already. Thinking of getting one for my parents for Xmas.

1st. Xiaomi STB is now considered handicap equipment, Chinese broadcast authority has banned android STB for TV. You can't see shit anymore. We have Gen 1 and 2, both cannot be viewed any content inside most of the time. But you can download VST, Mango TV, 泰折, PPTV and those app to view. You will need DNS from China, and it is laggy for HD videos

2nd that is some sexy avatar.

I guess you can always get WelTV or MoonBox, but it's like almost $300, and it isn't very reliable. There's always something not fully functioning or they're getting hacked.

I was thinking of getting one for my mom

but if its anything like the chinese video apps on her Ipad I think i'll pass as those apps have been horrible these last few months... nothing but lag or 'unable to connect' messages -_- the chinese commercials load up quick as hell though -_-

like I said, most online app/servers that can view tv series, movie and anime have been banned, except tablet, that's why you are forced to accept and view it as tablet layout

I have LETV x50 Air and Xiaomi, all you need is a usb mouse and install all those TV apps

what's a box with a good track record for development?

I think a flagship device is worth it if there is active development but it seems that these boxes only get max 1 year of support and it's time for a new box

any recommendations? 4k / gaming / xbmc (i use plex) is not important to me. while reading reviews, I find it odd that after so many iterations and upgraded versions, certain videos still needed to played outside of the popular xbmc and inside mx player to work properly. main purpose will be to install TV apps from china for my parents, viewed through DNS i suppose like above.

^ If you're referring to Asian STB then maybe WelTV as they are backed by TCL.

if you are talking about the STB firmware development, you can't go wrong with LETV and Xiaomi for viewing Chinese stuff online.

Things have changed in the 2nd half of this year, people cannot just stick with one STB forever, so the only way is installing APP (APK files) like your tablet to view, which will require you a mouse to control the clicking.

In this situation, any STB brand will do the work, of course, you need good CPU/GPU and internet connection to run smoothly.

Which Android Apps are best use for Cantonese content (HD)? Must be a smooth stream back to Canada.
