Members of the group Immigration Watch Canada took to the Blundell Road overpass in Richmond above Hwy. 99 early Wednesday morning to protest Canada’s immigration policy, blaming it in part for the Lower Mainland’s traffic woes.
The gathering of about a half dozen people unfurled a large, yellow and black-lettered sign stating “Fight gridlock: cut immigration” for northbound commuters to see.
Dan Murray, spokesman for the group said the level of immigration in Canada is unwarranted and wants the federal government to reduce the numbers, which he believed would help lessen the impact on city streets.
“More people, more cars,” said Murray. “Every two people who come in as immigrants bring another car onto the road. That’s how it works.”

If these honkeys could produce statistics which support their theory, they might have a chance at actually making a difference.
But statistics require... math… and I suspect math is beyond the cognitive abilities of these honkeys.
its not just traffic... there's so many immigrants they're overflowing the parking lots... :D

yeah these "honkeys" seem as stupid as all the other anti chinese people all over RS and vancouver.
"they're taking over our culture" has boiled down to "they're taking over our roads".
yeah no shit sherlock, now move your fat ass out of the way, your time is over.

Regardless of where they come from, there are to many people for the road systems in the lower mainland. Most of the roads were built for 1/4 the population that we now have in the GVRD.
Blame whatever you like but it solves nothing.

Just dui's
Canada should just start aggressively promoting immigration to smaller towns and cities in other provinces - after all, it's not like we have a land shortage, just that everyone want's to cram into certain cities.

They already do this, it's much easier to immigrate to Canada if you're willing to move to say PEI.. so what the rich immigrant families do is buy a house in PEI, claim as primary residence, then move to TO or Van and rent the PEI house out to whoever.

What about only granting citizenship application process privilege to those who actively work at an already established Canadian company in those cities (no more "investment" immigration) - only trade/work based immigration.

They do that already.. most of those kids pushing credit cards at Superstore / Canadian Tire, they usually have the nicest cars on the lot.. they are doing it so that they can claim they work for a bank and is invaluable to Canadian society.
Honestly the more you nitpick the more it will cost the tax payer. Just like our environmental laws, they are well written but we don't have the $$ to enforce it. People with means will come whether you like it or not, the more rules you throw at them, they will just dance around them. It is the immigration lawyers that get all the fees.

The problem isn't immigration - it's the fact that unlike most American cities, Vancouver city planners way back when (and now) lack(ed) the foresight to think the GVRD would expand. And now we are trying to play catch up with limited funds. Not to mention our public transit system sucks compared to most other major cities. We don't even have a decent light rail network from the most populous suburban area (Surrey) to Vancouver. Not to mention a Vancouver mayor who wants to stonewall vehicle traffic rather than acknowledge it exists (and for good reason) and facilitate it instead. That's the reason we have traffic.
I mean, I dislike traffic as much as the next guy but to blame it on immigrants is pretty fucking ignorant.
