Obviously then Revscene would be applauded to hear that people want this practice to end as it is "sexist" in some people's eyes.

This is kind of like #GamerGate. Anita Sarkeesian created a now-career out of demagoguery designed to entrench herself in a position to say what is right and wrong in games. Other people like Jodi Lai are now seizing the opportunity to jump on the social justice bandwagon, soon to tell you what you can and can't have at your car show.
