The Official "I Have This Random Tool You May Borrow/Use" Thread
RS has always been a good place for me to find random tools that I may need but probably wouldn't buy because I don't use it very often. I have borrowed/used various things from various members and I have always appreciated this.
As a result, this thread will be dedicated for tools/equipment that you are willing to let other RS members use/borrow. Similarly, you can post what you need and hopefully another member can jump in and help you out!
I have:
Sim card cutter that will cut your regular sim to a micro sim

That was a super random night.
RS should have more of these or people should be more comfortable asking for help. There are loads of awesome people on RS that are always willing to lend a hand.
That wasn't random........... it was planned. That lilaznviper knew exactly what he was doing. And we all fell for it. It was a night to remember. Lol, mindbomber........
That Lomac. Drove from Langley on a promise of free coffee. Then Ikea breakfast afterward.
Back on topic, I've got all kinds of weird tools people can borrow.

I'm sorry, I must've left it in the car :( I thought I cleaned everything out before turning over to the wreckers but I guess not :(
I know that was your favorite plug too; I'll buy you a brand new one and it will be even better with vibrating features
^I love it when you talk dirty like that..........
On a serious note, I have had times where I could have used tools and lubricants in the middle of the night. Like last week when I was working on my car and needed some dielectric grease and Hondabond. I needed to have the car ready by morning, but all stores were closed at 11:00 pm. And what's even worse was, I had those things, but remembered lending them to a friend a while ago. Bastard left for a little vacay.

I have a thin 32mm wrench that's useful for undoing the viscous fan clutch on BMWs.
You may need a separate fan clutch holder tool too though, or you might be able to just whack the wrench with a mallet and give the nut enough of an impact to loosen it. Do note that the nut is counter-threaded, i.e. rotate clockwise (toward's driver's side) to loosen.

^ You can get an adjustable one that will work from Canadian Tire as part of their tool rental program.
When you buy it, it states on the receipt that it's part of the program and eligible for a full refund if you return it in original condition within 24 or 48 hours (don't remember exactly).
I loaned it from the Grandview/Bentall location. They have them behind the auto parts counter on the lower level.

looking for a gap measure for installing spark plugs.... supposed to be pre-gapped but i'm paranoid
I have one, but not driving to San Diego.
Also, you can use common things as alternatives to feeler gauges.
Credit cards, for example are 0.030 inches or .75 mm.
I used to know the thickness of the cardboard used on the spark plug box itself (NGK).
Feeler gauges aren't ideal for measuring spark plug gaps, anyway. Wire is best.

Not skilled enough, will have the next year to perfect the skill though
Practice makes perfect....... start with larger items, like 6 sided dice. Then move up............ errrrr...... down to dried peas, then grains of rice.
When you master that, go for fly blind folded, like Mr. Miyagi, aka MG1.

That might work, though it's in an awkward position where it's not easily reachable. I tried getting at it with a pair of pliers and because of the positioning, I couldn't get a good grip on the tabs. Do you have one of those MG1? I'd certainly be willing to give it a try.
I have both types. Where and when would you like to meet up? PM
Wish I had a pair of those recently when I was fixing my washer recently! Spring clamps are a bish to do especially in a tight space.
What worked for me is to zip tie the clamp which compressed it just enough to get my linesman pliers around it. Depending on access you can forego that method entirely and use a nice pair of needle nose pliers as well but it is difficult to get a good grip.
What I found to have worked quite well was to zip tie the clamp and then use my linesmans.

Does anyone have a portable battery jump starter that I can borrow for a few hours or a day?
Just came back from a vacation and had my second car parked for 3 months. The engine started fine prior to that but now wont even click when I turn the ignition. Tried to jump start it with my other vehicle but the engine wont turn on or click but electronics work slightly. Im thinking the battery might not be able to hold a charge from having it parked for that long and battery corroded a bit is a possibility I read from the internet.. A quick search online tells me to scrub the terminals with extremely hot water mixed with baking soda. Another says pour coca cola over the terminal. What would u guys recommend and if anyone has a portable battery jump starter kit I could borrow, please pm me.
Thank you.

If it won’t start with another car it won’t start with the portable starter.
Get a new battery.
Did you put the negative clamp on the body of the dead car (a good ground not part of the battery), like you are supposed to?
That usually does the trick.
PS don't waste good Coke on a fucking car, man. Use Pepsi, instead. Just saiyan............

At first I put it on a bolt that was on the inside of the interior hood but it was raining quite heavily that day and sparked quite a bit. I thought it was because it was wet so I looked it up online. It said that I should try the hook that holds the hood up and so I did. Ill keep the pepsi in mind in case I decide to go down that route.
BTW, I do have a portable starter. Actually three of the lithium types (Noco) and a traditional type with lead acid battery. If you still require one.

Yup, I've got one, too. Got it a few months ago. Made by Astro Pneumatics. Purchased it right after the post by syee. The Ridgeline and Fit needs work. One of those tools you wish you had.

It's the storage locker in my condo. My main concern is sparks. It's very dry and humid in that room and the lockers around me have what looks like bed sheets stapled on the inside to prevent people from seeing in. Odds are probably low but the last thing I want is a spark to set fire haha. How's a hacksaw on a hardened steel padlock?

just buy one from princess auto LOL
What would you like me to buy? a hacksaw? I have one therefore I don't need another one.. it's not in my place and I don't remember giving it out which means it's probably inside my storage locker with the rest of my items.
To make my life easier forget I asked. I'll track down someone in a different department at work who may have one.
Don't be that way. I have a huge-ass bolt cutter. North Burnaby, though.
Bolt cutter, I would even ask the strata maintenance guy. They have a shitload of tools :lawl:

bringing this thread back up from the dead.
This may be a long shot, but anyone got some touch up paint I can use.
Looking for BBS gold, like the ones on the subies and BBS LM.
I don't need a lot, just got a small paint chip on a wheel.
Bumping this up too - does anyone have a rivnut tool? I've tried the Youtube DIY methods but I can't seem to get it to work, so I think I'm too dumb to DIY. :P Just need to set one rivnut for a trunk cargo hook.
I have the tool. Somewhere. However, when I first purchased my Ridgeline, I installed OEM running boards. It required the installation of a rivnut. I used string, bolt and a crescent wrench to install it. Honda designed it to be very difficult to install without the tool. Since then the tool needed is commonplace. If you’re really stuck and you aren’t in a hurry, I can look for it. It can be in several places. Ask flip and he’ll tell you how things are in my garage. It might be in the rape dungeon. In which case, a day’s worth of searching is required. I really need to organize.

I find tools in your garage faster than you. :lol
You find stuff I didn't even know I had.............
...in the rape dungeon.
If you do happen to come across it, definitely let me know. I'm not in a rush so no need to go hunting for it right now. I'm gonna see if I can try a few more DIY options first.

Long shot here, but wondering if anyone has a dirt bike engine case splitter. Need to split the cases so I can start prepping my engine rebuild. Gonna buy one soon along with crank puller, just hoping someone might have one I can use.

Anyone have these lying around? Trying to remove a JVC deck without any damage.

a nail or pin won't hold down the barrier.
