Floyd's a 3:1 favourite as of now, something tells me there's going to be some funny business going on to set up a potential Trilogy.

As a diehard Pacquiao fan, I have to acquiesce - I think he's past his prime and this fight should've happened many years ago. It should still be a great offense vs. defence matchup. Having been successful at a higher weight class, I still think Pacman has a great shot to win.

Both greats, but everyone has to concede that Mayweather has the edge.
The funny thing is regardless of what happens moneyweather makes out like a bandit in this fight, his margin is 60% compared to Pac's. Early estimates put him at pulling in in excess of 150m from what people are calling the "Billion dollar fight" and the "richest event in sporting history".
I'm going with Mayweather, just sucks both aren't in their prime.

This fight is a lot closer than it would have been five years ago, but Mayweather is still the favourite, IMO
Regardless of Mayweather's unblemished record, I still don't look at him as an ATG. One of the best defensive boxers? Definitely. If Mayweather gets by Pacquiao, I want to see him move up in weight and take on GGG for the middleweight championship - a fight that would solidify him as a definite top 5 ATG if he wins that fight.

not going to happen. mayweather wont have a rematch if he wins because he doesn't want to risk his ZERO loss career.
maybe if mayweather loses, then there may be a rematch.
Manny already hinted at retirement after this Mayweather fight.

Mayweather gets so much hate but he's really the only one carrying boxing right now. Sure, Manny sells fights but Mayweather has such a larger impact. That being said, I'll be cheering for pacquaio at the end of the day.
I'm so excited for this fight and so is the rest of the world. Even here in Japan where combat sports has dwindled tremendously in popularity, people are talking about it. Unsurprisingly, people here are pro-pacquaio but also believe that Mayweather will probably carry out a win by points.

I have a sweater though. Havn't rocked it since I bought it at the Alvarez fight back in 2013. This might be my opportunity to pull it out, and wear it.

in my opinion manny will be the harder worker, throwing punches in bunches while mayweather will do what he does best, work his defence and pick his shots. like roy jones said, manny has to be careful and not get wreckless or he might get caught. and mayweather needs to make sure hes not getting out worked the whole fight or he might lose in decision. if your putting money on the fight, don't bet on emotion. mayweather is considered an asshole by most and people want to see him lose, but dont forget he is an absolute ring master. im a fan of both fighters, but will be rooting for manny just because i like seeing the underdogs come out on top.

The man is a monster, his training ethic is unheard of, Pacman simply isn't on that level. I'm a huge fan of Manny, but I don't see him winning this fight.

I agree and disagree.
Manny is a monster as well, and while his training isn't as widely publicized as Floyd, his training ethic is definitely up there on the same level as Floyd's. Manny literally came from nothingness, so there isn't any doubt there regarding his work ethic. This really isn't a question about "training ethic"; it's really more about style.
Floyd is just too technically savvy. Counter punchers (Mayweather is as perfect as it gets) spell trouble for Manny, which is why I'm leaning towards Floyd winning.

Manny spending all his time doing talk shows and shit, mayweather seems far more committed and is basically preping like this is the fight of his life.
Even at -225 I think that's a steal for money, I'm tempted to toss $500 down.
As others have said here, I just don't see Floyd losing, the guy is too good where as Manny has looked average in his last few fights.

Thing is, Floyd doesn't take risks. I've watched his last 5 fights and not once have I seen him out himself In a vulnerable position. As the commentators said last fight, the majority of the time you don't know whether Floyd is on the defense or offense because his transition is almost instant and even when he's backing off he can still he on the offensive.

Floyd is the man to beat. He is the best.
BUT, he has been vulnerable. Mind you, he'll adjust but he does have weaknesses. His technicality usually puts rounds in the bag, though.
We all remember Mosley's fight. Vulnerable, but was able to adjust. That was amazing.
Cotto had success with Mayweather against the ropes (as did Oscar) in the later rounds as well, a vulnerable spot for Floyd. That was quite unique since later rounds are when Mayweather does his best work.
Aaaand...Maidana. That guy was a dirty fucker. But he had quite a bit of success with Floyd. Again, against the ropes.
Maidana got schooled in the second fight, though.

Absolutely not! Manny would be too small to muscle Floyd against the ropes a la Cotto and De La Hoya. Perhaps Manny could use his savvy footwork to get Floyd to the ropes, but even if he could, I don't think he would be able to keep him there.
Still, I'm hoping Manny could do something to push Floyd with unrelenting aggressiveness (smart aggressiveness, mind you) and win. But, as Julio Cesar Chavez and de la Hoya said, my brain goes with Mayweather, but my heart goes with Pacquiao.

IMO, I have no problem with an athlete making those comparisons. A fighter has got to have that mentality if he wants to be the greatest.
Can't blame Floyd for thinking that way, but you can't blame me for thinking he's absolutely out of his mind for thinking his legacy will surpass Ali's ;)

IMO I believe Ali is the greatest of all time, and probably the greatest athlete of all time only second to Jordan. Many factors will play into a discussion like this. Like comparing records, opponents, adversity etc. I agree with the comment above about how Ali was a cultural icon for what he did inside and outside the ring. The classic bouts he had with guys like Frazier and Foreman were incredible to watch. You cant knock mayweather for saying hes the best ever thats just his competitive spirit as a professional athlete. IF mayweather does beat pacquiao though hes going to be silencing a lot of critics about how he ISNT the best because all they had was that he didnt fight pacquiao. And my last point is that it comes down to the era these boxers have fought in. I mean nobody can say tyson fought harder guys than Ali, same can be said about Roy Jones and how he had no competition either besides James Toney, where as Ali was really going up against top level fighters that were all a huge threat to him, which you cant blame the fighters for. Theirs something about the heavyweight fighters that just have an awesome excitement about them. Its sad that in our era today heavyweight boxing is pretty much dead. I mean how many people watched klitschko vs jennings? lol

for me it's kind of like, when is enough enough with him? Yea sure it's a little shameless plug to get people thinking about him again but Ali now is a ghost of his former self. Who tweeted it? his family to generate some interest? the guy is getting trotted out there still for publicity events and he doesn't even know where he is. Also the G.O.A.T stuck around way too long taking fights for money when he was getting his brain bashed around in his skull, obviously what we know now about brain injuries is night and day but everyone knew in the end he was doing it to himself.
The cultural stuff and being an icon for the time is undeniable.
I may sound like an asshole but to me it's border line irritating when these former greats are brought up when everyone knows they are beyond grave health and they are propped up on their legend by others. Another example of this is Gordie Howe. His own son who is a doctor came on a few different radio interviews and essentially said "we're just keeping Gordie comfortable,he's essentially in a vegetative state after his second stroke, we're just making the best of it" Following this, every update you hear is "oh ya good old gordie fighting the good fight" or "Gordie's taking it on like he would on the ice"
Just let people remember them how they will

Ya i know what you mean, but its only normal for people and sports analyst to always compare eras. Everytime a guy like a mayweather or a pacquiao is fighting i always try to watch and get others to watch too because it sucked how someone like me didnt really get to watch Ali during his time, and i also only got to see bit of tyson. We should definitely embrace the fighters of today and enjoy it while is lasts because their will never be another mayweather or pacquiao, just like how their will never be another tyson ali etc

I think no matter who wins, the winner would/should definitely retire from boxing and they will be remembered as THE best fighter of 21st century until someone else comes along.
The sad part is that both are past their prime. With Pacqiao a bit further. So if I'm going to bet, my money is on Mayweather. Nevertheless, with the expectation being so high, a win for Pacqiao would be the best story. A total underdog to a complete dominance, it's even a great movie plot, it has his ups, his downs just before the climax and boom.

I think it goes without saying that the majority of people have their hearts cheering for Pacquiao. Unfortunately, Mayweather is just too damn good and if you were a betting man, Floyd would be the obvious choice.
Don't get me wrong, as a fan of Floyd's, he's got a piece of my heart cheering for him too. His persona is something I love, regardless of how the majority of people view him.

Don't get me wrong, as a fan of Floyd's, he's got a piece of my heart cheering for him too. His persona is something I love, regardless of how the majority of people view him.
But Pacquiao is just hard to hate. His dumb fans can be annoying, yes, but Pacquiao as a figure is someone so iconic, he's hard not to like. I do hope the underdog comes out victorious, but this isn't a movie.
Agreed. This fight would be big to the boxing fans either way, but the fact you have mayweather whos accepted the villains roll and has people who dont even watch boxing hoping he'll lose alone makes the fight such a big draw. I find mayweather super entertaining to watch, which is why im also a fan. Boxing has always had the outspoken, cocky/confident champions like ali, tyson, roy jones etc that fans like myself love to watch, especially when they backup all the talking they do.and on the other side you have pacquiao who since had his spiritual conversion years ago is always preaching god and truly just seems to be a good overall humble person. its "good vs evil" gotta love it:fullofwin:

That's not a fair assessment.
Skill-wise, Floyd will always be tighter than Manny, but one thing Manny does unfailingly is ALWAYS bringing excitement to his fights. Pacquiao's demeanor has always been happy-go-lucky in all of his fights; but that doesn't mean he's not been taking his fights seriously.
Remember his fight with Margarito? He had a concert booked right after his match, win or lose LOL.

with a fight of this magnitude, they both have lots of pressure here and both have something to lose. floydd has the 0 on the line that he loves to talk about so much, and pacquiao is who everyone expects to dethrone floyd. i think floyd only has more pressure on him but he put that on himself
pretty much everyone else ive talked to outside of this thread about the big fight are saying stuff like "pacquiao aint got a chance" "team money all the way" blah blah blah. now if your an actual boxing fan and your supporting mayweather ok then thats fine. but most of the people are just jumping on the bandwagon and became boxing fans overnight. mayweather deserves to be the favourite cuz hes obviously undeafeted, but dont be so quick to write off pacquiao.
its nice to talk about boxing with people who actually know and are true fans of the sport, cuz i thinks its safe to say majority of people choose to watch the ufc now (which i dont blame them for) cuz they always give what the fans want to see, but for ppl like myself i will always be a fan of boxing whether the big names retire or not

1) mayweather wins in unanimous decison or

Lots of fans are dumb. I'm actually quite surprised how some of the self disputed "educated" fans write off one fighter or the other. I'm a huge Manny fan, but that doesn't mean I can't be a huge fan of Floyd either. You support Floyd? Good, he deserves the recognition, but don't act like Manny is a slouch.
Some choose one side, while completely shitting on the accomplishments of the other.
Fuck off. Both fighters, win or lose, will be Hall of Famers. Floyd and Manny have already built a lasting legacy that won't be affected at all by the outcome of this fight.

So is Floyds purse $180,000,000 or is that divided between the 2?
Berz out.
Manny Pacquiao and Floyd Mayweather Jnr will face off against each other at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas on Sunday night in the richest boxing match in history.
The purse for the fight is set at $300million (£194,502,705), which will be split 60/40 in the American's favour.
Assuming the fight lasts the full 12 rounds, Mayweather will be earning $4,994,681 per minute of action, with Pacquiao earning $3,329,787 per minute.
That means that by the end of the first round, Mayweather will have earned $14,984,043 and Pacquiao will have earned $9,989,362.
In total, Mayweather will collect $179,808,511 (£116,554,424) while Pacquiao will get $119,872,340 (£77,702,949).

He's a counter fighter, stood in took some good hits but Manny couldn't touch him. It's not about being a pussy it's a strategy and smart. What else did you expect??

Well, dunno much about boxing, but that was disappointing. Mayweather keeps hugging all night and he win's the championship.

Did not live up to the hype.. oh well, won some money.
Manny just couldn't figure out Floyd. I think he was afraid of getting tagged and knocked out.

Mayweather is a brilliant strategist.
Pacquiao is a dominating monster.
A very solid effort by both boxers.

I feel bad for Manny, he is a true champion for the people and seems like a super good person as well. I did want Money to win but I wanted Manny to win as well just to see his reaction cause he deserves it!!

The commentators are the fucking awful. I muted them for the final two rounds and can't bear them now. Cringe.

Roy Jones Jr was a wicked boxer but he shouldn't be in there like he was. Watching that compared to UFC Rogan and Goldberg are so much better at what they do and no question they wouldn't act like a dick like he was to Manny

Maybe, but he's also obviously socially handicapped. What kind of idiot conducts an interview like that after a guy fights his heart out?

The Japanese commentators were actually very good. Good thin I didn't watch the American broadcast!
What an amazing fight by both Manny ad Floyd! Mayweather is such a ring master. Manny landed some great shots too, but Floyd's recovery was amazing.
It was saddening for me to see Manny sad :(

It made me happy to see Mayweather give what looked like a heartfelt hug to Pacquiao. Between that and the documentary that lead up to the fight, he dispelled a lot of the negative attention around him.

did anyone else think round 9 was the turning point? for such a hyped fight, it felt so underwhelming

No question and it seemed like he really meant the hug as well. He's at least not a cocky sob when he wins like a lot of fighters out there.

I sent a link to forty-ish different people and a lot of you responded to say thank you, but rather than individually responding to you all because that would take awhile, I'll respond and say you're welcome to you all here. :)

I can see why Manny thought he won. From his POV floyd was hugging and running around
I'm not use to seeing pacquiao not throwing combos haha
But that's because floyds defence is better than manny's offense

I wish Mike would fight again but I know he he would murdered but it would still be wicked to see. Thankfully I'm old enough to be able to see him fight live in his hay day and it was fricken awesome. There will only be one Tyson and truly he was the best ever but just fucken crazy.

Lennox lewis and Paulie Malignaggi were both saying Manny was a poor loser for saying that. Said pacman clearly loss and at most won 4 rounds. Almost all the expects and boxers saying Mayweather won clearly, no controversies here.
I'm just pissed at Manny for not capitalizing when he had floyd on the ropes and manny kept coming at floyd straight on. You can't do that with floyd, he's just too technically sound and will counter. I expected Manny to have a better game plan, fuck i hate seeing floyd win.
