: I Just Got Snubbed By Subaru Dealership!!!

So I'm fucking pissed off right now what just happened earlier on. Been in the market for an Rx-8 R3 for quite some time just can't find the right one. Unfortunately I have altogether abandoned the idea of buying an Rx8.

Now I have decided on a 06-07 STi. Hoping to get into one before RS Spring Meet. I pull up to the dealership and feel unwelcome right from the get go. A few salesman were outside and they had their hands in their pockets playing pocket pool. All the while just huddled together talking to themselves. No hi, no friendly approach to ask me if I needed help.

Then I walk into the dealership and talk to the receptionist and automatically get the stink eye ignoring treatment by the girl. Now I'm feeling infuriated. Finally ask in a non confrontational tone if I could get some help. The girl passive-aggressively just treats me like gnat, like I'm not worth her time...

After that I left. Had cheque in hand if all went well with successful test drive and we could negotiate a final price. Not going to name the dealership yet, I've already e-mailed Linda Steel @ CTV "Steel on your side". Hoping to expose this second rate bargain bin dealership.

What a fucking shitty Monday

Maybe you should've confronted the salesman who were huddled talking to each other... Be a dick to them, tell em you have a check written for the right car, wave it under their noses a bit. That'll get em scrambling over each other to help you.

If they're going passive aggressive, do the same. Start trying to open car doors on the lot and set off the panic alarms until someone comes up an says "Can I help you?"

BOOM! Service.

You know how many people go dick around at a car dealership? If you want to be taken seriously, call and make an appointment with someone before you show up, watch how much better the service is then.

Go to the sales person direct. That's why they stand there. Say something assertive like "'Scuse me, I want to test drive this sti, if I like it, I have a check in hand for the purchase today." If they still mope around hearing you say that, move on.

They have so many lookiloos coming in and out of the dealer everyday and unless you show them some sign of seriousness, they won't bother. The receptionist won't do much more than call a sales guy over for you, they don't have a sales quota so they won't care. Why waste your own time?

Steele on your side is when you, as a consumer, get ripped off, not for tattling on some bad customer service.

By not outting the name of the dealer what is the point of posting here? Just to vent and rant? Is it Richmond Subaru? 'Cause the last guy who truly got messed with by a dealer posted Richmond subaru that messed up and that did the community a favor.

Hi OP,

I've taken the pleasure of helping you write a letter to get extensive coverage in regards to your experience.

Dear Ms. On Your Side,

I recently visited a Subaru dealership in hopes to buy a car. I must point out that I require a car before an internet meet so I had a blank cheque in hand, hoping to walk away with a car that same day. It was critical that service was provided.

When I walked in, nobody acknowledged me. Not even a glance. The salesmen had their hands down their pants, playing pocket pool. The receptionist was even worse. She gave me a glare when I asked for help.

I left the dealership, with a blank cheque in hand, and no car for my internet meet.

Please help a fellow Vancouverite out this dealership for your next story! I suggest the headline "Subaru dealership doesn't provide service to man! Man has to go to another dealership!".

I hope you can help me out, I've heard you've been able to help lots of fellow unfortunate Vancouverites!

I've already warned my fellow internet car enthusiasts of this dealership however I am asking for your help and expertise!

Sincerely,

No Service

customers arnt just first come first serve, dealerships work in an order, if sales person A got the last customer, sales person B gets the next.. so unless B was standing there C,D,E, and F arnt going to rush to help you. i agree they should have said hi, but 95% of people who go to dealerships arnt there to buy and will waste hours of a sales persons day just out of curiosity not realizing that sales person could have made real sales throughout the time some people are willing to waste

you also need to realize many sales people work on an appointment basis. a few of them standing outside could have been waiting for their appointments or customers to return from test drives.. its kinda your fault for not approaching a sales person.

and.. if you cared that much about buying an STI.. nothing should have stopped you.. just saying, someone shouldnt have to talk me into buying a car i really want. hell the sales person would have to try to stop me from purchasing an STI if i was in the financial position to buy one

Just playing the devil's advocate here, but I'm a car salesman myself and it's part of the job to approach customers upon entry to the dealership. Some days we go without even a single "up" the entire day, so each and every customer encounter means a lot to us. I understand that the stigma behind car salespeople isn't so great, but it's our job and it's the only way we can make an income. If you're just wanting to browse the inventory, be polite and say "Hey there! I'm just here to check out what you have on the lot. Would it be okay if I grabbed you if I came across anything I would like some more info on?".

i got good service at subaru before when i was browsing their used cars

it was not so good at Richmond Honda when the old sales women Lily Lam approached me and was being a snob. She didnt know a single thing about cars and was giving me all the wrong specs and info on the car i liked. she also acted like i was wasting her time. i was debating between a subaru forrester and a honda crv and she told me i cant test drive the crv until i have driven the forrester and have kicked it out of my car search option (making it an easy sale for her since i havent driven the crv yet and also making me have to come back to drive the crv on the second appointment making it easier to close the sale)

it gave me a very bad impression and i promised i would never buy or reccomend anyone to buy from her

you looked at a tacoma truck and bought an s2000, they are two totally different cars, the salesman can see through you that you are not a serious buyer thats probably why nobody helped you

We need Tofu to chime in, only he can explain the inner workings of a car salesman.

:lawl:

every dealer has different philosophy, same with every salesman.

Its either an "up" system (taking turns) or "open floor" (every man for themselves)

Some sales guys judge walk ins by body language, what they look at and questions customers ask.

But some times, saying hi goes a long way... (sold a random walk in the other day.. not knowing what to look at.)

One does not simply sell the car, you have to build value for the car and the dealer itself, what makes the service of the dealer stand out from the rest and convince the customer to conduct business with you.

I think that's the best way I could put it. Every sales guy has their own opinion though.

And sorry if I sounded like a crazy mofo. I was extremely pissed off and hadn't yet calmed down when I wrote my initial rant. hahaha regarding this one....So I saw it when I was driving by and decided to pop in a check it out since I'm always curious as many of us on here are. Just wanted to see price and kms and if stock etc for curiosity and to pass on info to anyone looking for one. I pull in, in my 2010 sti hatch and guy immediately comes out to to ask if I'm interested, I say how I was just curious for possibly a family member and how its priced very high ($39,999 with 47k kms) especially considering Wolfe has a virtually stock '07 with 85k kms for $28,995. He says how it's an insanely fast car and no lot kids or test drives are allowed, which I say is fine since I own the same car and don't need to drive it, which he doesn't understand that the car I'm in has the same motor plus mods. I asked how many kms so he goes inside, new guy comes out in hoodie and jeans (~35-40yrs). He says that this one was the "race" version of my car and, and I quote, "This thing is faaaaast, I drove it around the other day and it would blow the doors off my 04 Ferrari, I have a Ferrari and it's nuts"....I try to hold in laughter and humor him with, "yea man, that awd will really sneak up on ya" and proceed to leave quite content with my visit to Willowbrook Chrysler.....:fuckthatshit:

Didn't have a salvage title. One of the employees had it up there as a typo and I guess never took it down. Was a US car (California) bought for the owners son. He then did not want the car anymore so it was sold at the dealership. 5 months same guy sells the car back to Wolfe. He only drove it 2,000kms in his time of ownership so he didnt have a need for it. Wolfe then now sold the same car two times in seven months...for the same price...lol....

Geez you guys are hella fast. I've also inquired about this car, but over the phone. Saw the ad in the morning and called first thing when they opened. Car was traded in 2 days ago for a new viper. The guy I talked to wasn't very knowledgeable and full of sh*t. When asked about mods, it's "chipped, I got the box for it here and everything". When asked what brand? "I don't know" "It's also got brembos" :rukidding:

I made the same comment about it being too high. It's a $50k car new and you think it only depreciates 10k? :fulloffuck: I also brought up that 05 that sold really fast to build my case for their car being so ridiculously priced. I'm paraphrasing, but the guy said that he didn't see the 05, but I guarantee you that the one we have here is better. It's been in car shows!

I gave my offer to them. We shall see what they say.

I only looked visually from the outside and not very closely but looked fairly stock minus the rims which are black enkeis. Also asked the unless salesman if it was stock underneath and he said he thinks it had a blowoff valve but that was it.... So from what you've said, they have no &$#@'in idea what the hell is going on

can't expect everyone to know what they're selling. I'll have to be diligent. I'd go see for myself if langley wasn't so far away. I'll wait for pics to see if i want to pursue based on the mods i can see.

How to make money selling cars;

1) Actually know what the fuck you're talking about
2) If you don't know the answer to a question, admit it. We're all human.
3) Be reasonable about following up. Not twice a day...
4) ?????
5) Literally profit... Quite a lot...

I think the OP is being too emotional about this car purchase.

Yeah, there are definitely bad dealerships, but I've been burnt plenty of times by private sellers too. Back in December, I was looking at 2013-2015 STis and it was hard to find any private sellers on craigslist that would even give their phone number.

You're eliminating a big chunk of the market (and thus your options) if you just decide to blindly eliminate dealerships.

Regarding salespeople knowing nothing, it's annoying to us, but I think it doesn't make a difference for non-enthusiasts who buy most of the cars. One of my friends works for a local BMW dealership and many of the "M" cars are bought by people who could care less about the technical details.

The one in Langley that is for sale is 2 expensive. It's been for sale for what seems like eons. It is also a US import. I know the Canadian dealerships are getting hammered by the weak Loonie but buyers aren't stupid. If anything we'll just wait it out until the loonie gains strength. Oil isn't going to stay low forever as its cyclic in nature, hell look at the pumps gas prices are starting to rise back to normal prices.

the black one you're referring to was at the subaru in langley and it sold 1.5 weeks ago. It was on the market since November and the asking price didn't really move.

The one at Willowbrook is blue and been on the market for less than a week.

Quite a few STi's have shown up on the market in the past couple months.
- the 05 $16,500 at Land Rover which sold fast and is now being flipped for $22 2005 Subaru Impreza WRX STI (http://vancouver.craigslist.ca/bnc/cto/4912180119.html)
- this 06 $30,000 is less than a day old on the market **2006 SUBARU IMPREZA STI - 55,000km** (http://vancouver.craigslist.ca/nvn/cto/4912301055.html)
- this 06 $22,500 is less than 1 month. 2006 Subaru STi (http://vancouver.craigslist.ca/van/cto/4911959293.html)
- this 06 $25,000 is a month or 2 old. 2006 Subaru sti 92,000kms (lots of extras) (http://vancouver.craigslist.ca/van/cto/4886263051.html)
- I don't know if this 06 is the same as the $30,000 one above. but he wanted $35,000 for it 2006 Subaru WRX STI (http://abbotsford.craigslist.ca/cto/4874849263.html)
- rebuilt 07 $22,000 2007 Subaru Impreza WRX STI (http://vancouver.craigslist.ca/pml/cto/4906108897.html)
- 04 $15,000 2004 wrx sti imprezza (http://vancouver.craigslist.ca/rds/cto/4859220513.html)
- rebuilt 07 $23,000 was posted end of Jan 2007 Subaru Impreza WRX STI (http://nanaimo.craigslist.ca/cto/4856107857.html)

If i'm spending over $30,000, I would be better off buying this one FS: (For Sale) alcoolaid's 2007 Subaru Impreza WRX STI - NASIOC (http://forums.nasioc.com/forums/showthread.php?t=2643212)

It's as if the people on craigslist don't know that a 2015 STI is $40,000. or is the 04-07 STI the new aircooled Porsche? :suspicious:

I am only speculating but I forsee the 04-07 STI's becoming hidden gems. The car is that damn good. Later iterations of the STi's leave a sour taste in my mouth. It's like comics 04-07 is the golden age of Subaru's while the newer have just become 'meh'

I'm banking on the desirable 04-07's STi's to become very much in demand for like forever. Like the ITR's, FD's, Evo 7, Supra's, NSX's, E46. Car is brilliant the newer STi's are watered down. Not to mention the 6 speed keeps it desirability in tact.

FYi, I have the original spoiler trunk sitting safely on a shelf in my garage, along with the factory hoodscoop. Both are in mint condition, even after 3 moves.

werd.
The hawkeye/pignose didn't sell very well. The car was mocked when it was released. I still remember NASIOC circa 05' when they brought out the new design. It was supposed to look more "Alfa Romeo" bringing the oval grill to all the models. But it just looked silly (until modified, that is :D). Aside from that, the 07' Limited is still one of the most sought after GD models on the market. I'd jizz for an 07' with it's stronger gear ratios if not for the stupid canbus ecu. That's why I think the 06' is the ultimate model year for the GD.

That's just my opinion though.

I'm still on the fence about the sale. I had a deal almost finalized last spring, but I didn't like the kid buying it. He just rubbed me the wrong way. So when he came to pick it up with $3k less in his jeans, I told him to piss off. You can't change the deal at the last second!

Arthur's STi is so sick. It's been built by hand by an individual who really cares for fine details. It truly is one of the best STi's on the west coast.

A well maintained STi will still command a higher price than a lot of cars. This is a vehicle that can be taken to a track day and flogged. Then driven home in relative comfort. The AWD/turbo gives you all weather performance in a car that can seat 4 adults in comfort. There isn't much out there that will give you the performance and practicality of an STi.

wasn't that the year when they changed the way hp and tq was measured and every cars hp was listed lower even if it was the same engine?

Looking back at when you were selling your 07 limited, I think it was priced well. Last price mentioned there was $23,500 http://www.revscene.net/forums/695191-2007-subaru-sti-limited-106-800-a.html
and going by original hypa's comment 07 limited is the most sought after GD model, you'd expect it to be top dollar.

And then looking at onur's 05, the last price was $17000 FS: (For Sale) 2005 STI WRB with Gold BBS wheels ++++ - Page 2 - NASIOC (http://forums.nasioc.com/forums/showthread.php?t=2473589&page=2)

Unless it's not well maintained :concentrate:

The cars on the market right now are still pretty new to the market. Maybe the prices are all inflated cuz of that black 07 for $28,995 was listed for so long and still up. Before recent, that black one was really the only one to compare to unless you compared to ones that have already sold, which I doubt sellers do. I plan to let them sit there until the owners drop their own price to a price that I like. and the price i like is closer to white rocket's and onur's :alonehappy:

i still prefer the 06 TBH (lack of air pump in particular). but i'm biased, i had an 06... which i must say, i sold for $26,500 with V3s, DP, RPF1s and Recaro SPGs 4-5yrs ago so i'm a bit surprised by the market values of 06/07s now! the car was incredible.. i dont know how many track days i did in it.. but it NEVER skipped a beat. I only had an off the shelf stage 2 map too!

my 2010 is well maintained as i used to daily drive and take it to lapping days. i just need to sell it as i need the space hence the price. :(

Not sure. I read that info on various websites. Wasn't just specific to the Limited but all GD STI's of that year. All years of the GD STI could be desirable for their own reasons.

2004: first year, lowest production numbers(I'm guessing) and the rawest of the bunch.
2005: Continued blob eye body but with updated interior(steering wheel, climate control, etc)
2006: Best engine(apparently), first year of hawkeye/pig nose, no air pump as per slowguy
2007: last year of the GD, only year a Limited was offer(800 produced in US only)

Looking back at when you were selling your 07 limited, I think it was priced well. Last price mentioned there was $23,500 http://www.revscene.net/forums/695191-2007-subaru-sti-limited-106-800-a.html

I too thought it was priced well. Had a couple looky loos but nothing concrete for a few months. I let it go for less than $23,500 because I needed to get rid of it(had a baby) but if I wasn't in that position I would've held on for the $23,500. The car couldn't be duplicated for that price anywhere in North America right now based on condition and mileage(it was minty mint). New owner is very happy and I'm glad it went to a good home. The wheels he picked are off the hook so I'm glad it's getting the treatment it deserves.

06' has no canbus either.
The good tuners have no issues with Canbus, but the older ecu was able to be tuned a lot more efficiency. I like the 07' transmission as it's better geared for drag racing.

That said, my 04' was a beast. It was purely raw, like white rocket said. It was a sideways fiend, not unlike a mustang or Camaro. Tail happy with easily controlled oversteer. The 06' has a smart diff and keeps you planted in the turns. Until I added the 20g with custom intake wheel. She spool so fast :D

Plastidip is pretty cool.
But Ontario and Quebec cars are worth 1/3 of what we get for them in BC. I sold our Golf in Montreal for almost 20% more than any other Golf for sale because it was a BC car and had no rust. Winters are nasty out east.
