: Cities: Skylines - A Better SimCity

There was a big SimCity thread a while back in this forum so I wanted to share this. The general consensus is the latest SimCity isn't very good. Maxis is no more but things are finally looking good for SimCity fans because of this new game:

It's basically what SimCity should have been. The residential, commerical and industrial (RCI) is the same. It has a detailed transportation system since this developer also made Cities in Motion which is a transportation sim. Unlike SimCity it has huge land areas. One cool feature I read about is painting districts with a paintbrush tool and set unique tax, resource and industry specialties for each district. Graphics look clean and pretty.

I just bought it on Steam for 32 bucks. Will report back but reviews are great so far:

Contemplating whether or not I should buy this game :considered: Sim city 2000 was the shit when I was in grade 4, schools had it preinstalled for whatever reason and it was awesome to see King Kong or aliens wreck havoc

I've been watching people play on Twitch and have played a couple hours myself now. You can pretty much replicate any city in the world!

Now y'all can create how our road network should ought to be.

SO GOOD! This is totally worth the $30. Highly moddable too

Here's my first big city, just hit 40K

I am having 2 problems though... One, I can't get hydro dams to work. I have it in a river with what I assume is high flow, but it just doesn't work. When I turn it off, it just blocks the river.

Also, I am having problem getting employees for my industrial locations

Can you drive/do missions throughout the city like how it was in SimCity 4?

Those memories back then playing SimCity all day :lol :alone:

Pre-ordered. Mashed F5 on release date. Got all hyped up while it was downloading. Opened it up, found out my computer can't run it without massive lag. Epic disappoint. Needless to say, I'm on the hunt for a new computer already.

Same situation as you Teriyaki. The recent SimCity was playable but this game is kinda laggy on my 5 year old computer. Kinda sucks. I went on twitch.tv and saw how smooth it should be and it got more depressing.

The game is compatible with mods. I'm not sure about driving but there is already a first person mod for it. It won't be long.

im doing nothing wrong. just building a new road and attaching to existing or rebuilding roads

Unity seems like a really inefficient engine, so I'm not surprised that it's sluggish for some. Hell I notice some slowdowns myself when zooming in.

So worth it though

I've been playing a lot of simcity lately and it's been pretty good but what pisses me off is the limited space to develop. In this game can you build mega cities or are you restricted to smaller areas again?

this game is huge. you start off the same size as simcity but you can buy the neighbouring hoods.

So i finally built a big city, even expanded over the river. Got to like 14000 population and I realized i neglected the island i first started with. The river was all polluted and eventually my right half of the city all left and the houses are all abandoned lol. Is there anything I can do.

Will an AMD Phenom x6 BE, 8 GB RAM, HD5870 run this pretty well or is it new PC time?

Same here...

Also I have problems 'starting' a new area away from the main city. Like if I want to set up a forestry zone, with power, good highway connection etc, but nobody touches it

I was once able to get one going by setting up commercial beside it, but it didn't work this time

I think it has to be a REALLY fast river

I need to find out how to make traffic better in industrial areas.. I tried a roundabout and only 6 lane roads but that didn't work

You have a slightly better CPU than me (AMD X4 630 OC), but I have more ram (12gb) and a better video card (ATI Radeon 7790) than you on a SSD, and it's running fine, but the graphics are slightly grainy.

Picked this up on sale and enjoying it so far. It's only been out for what, like 3 months so I doubt it'll get any cheaper for this sale. Even if it did, I wouldn't lose sleep over a few dollars.

Bought it yesterday during the steam sale. Super addicting, love the music and the simplicity.

Feels good playing something other than FPS or racing.

I made a Mk1 Skytrain trainset for the game... if you got the game and want to have a transit system that's very irresponsible with their cash. Give it a go!

I rarely play the game for what it is anymore. Ever since the update came out that allowed vehicle mods, it's all I have been doing!

New expansion After Dark came out with night and day cycle and lots of features.

The Night and Day feature is free!!!
The $16 expansion includes additional new buildings (prison) and other stuff such as bike lanes.

Actually regret buying it cause I played the whole day and never used the new expansion feature other than the night and day stuff.
Feels like I'm gonna to get burn out by the game in a week or two and never touch it again.
Nevertheless, I think the night and day feature is pretty cool!
