It's just as offensive as having business store fronts with just Chinese writing on it.

2 cars in my neighbourhood have it on their cars :lawl:
your avatar and my avatar is more offensive
anyone remember the older decals that used to say "if you ch*nk, don't drive" or "don't ch*nk and drive". i used to see that when i was a kid growing up. i guess it takes less to get offended these days.

It's the truth and i don't find any problem with telling the truth no matter how wrong it could be.

The title of this thread should be changed to "Has Vancity Buzz ran out of articles to steal / re-post that it has come down to this?"

^The reasons listed in that thread for the "decline of vancouver" are all incorrect.
The real reason for the decline of vancouver is this plague of a website called vancitybuzz.

do i think its racist? no, more so living up a stereotype that was brought upon themselves. news anchor had said that for some, driving a car in canada is the first time they've ever driven a car.... so i guess it makes sense hahaha

Lynda Steele had a segment about this on tonight's 6pm CTV news. I actually sent an email to her commenting on the reporting. I felt like the people whom she interviewed did not understand the premise of the C Driver sticker, therefore commenting on how it's racist, which isn't wrong of course, but I feel like it's a different interpretation from the "other side" (those who have the stickers on their car). Here's a little of what was in the email:
The store that sells these stickers, "Super Garage" is one of the "home bases" for the luxury/exotic car clubs centered around wealthy young men and women of mainland Chinese descent. Out of the probably 20-30 or so cars I've seen driving around with these stickers within the last year, mainly in Richmond, I can say with confidence that nearly all of those cars driving around with "C Driver" stickers on the back, have a legitimate ICBC-issued N sticker on the back. Furthermore, the cars that are adorned with the "C Driver" stickers are typically cars that have a sticker price north of $100,000. In the video, the vehicle which was filmed with the "C Driver" sticker on the back was a 2015 Mercedes-Benz E63 S-AMG, priced at an MSRP of $110,600 CAD according to the Mercedes-Benz Canada website. Also, behind the rear window there was also a visible ICBC-issued N sticker, a testament to the real meaning of the "C Driver" sticker.
If one does a little bit more investigating, one will notice that the majority of all cars with "C Driver" stickers are indeed either super luxury or hyper exotic vehicles. I believe there is a slight misunderstanding of the actual meaning of the "C Driver" sticker. From my perspective, based on a different cultural understanding (one that understands the stigma associated with wealthy young mainland Chinese men and women), what the sticker really means is a form of elitism, a piece of identification to say that this vehicle is owned by a wealthy Chinese individual. There is a reason why one rarely ever sees this sticker on normal regular-car-touting Chinese peoples' cars. This sticker was created by Chinese people, for Chinese people, put up for sale in a Chinese mall that runs a car club catering to wealthy mainland Chinese young men and women, in a suburb of Vancouver where the majority of the residents are Chinese.
Clearly there is a market for these and if one looks deeper into this issue, one can see that the issue may not be with racism at all, rather, it may be an act of superiority and elitism.
Which is of course hilarious because putting a C Driver sticker on your car almost immediately equals everyone stays the fuck away from you because it implies that you don't know how to drive :lawl:

A “Chinese Driver” car sticker is popping up in Metro Vancouver again, causing a debate between whether it is offensive or a movement of unity among Chinese drivers.
We first reported finding one of these decals back in 2012, and the issue appeared again in 2013 when a Redditor posted a picture of a similar sign found on Davie Street. Today, CTV Vancouver reported another story of a “Chinese Driver” sign being found in Vancouver’s West Side.
According to their investigation, it is mostly Chinese people buying the sticker, yet more Caucasian people find it offensive. The sticker is apparently available at Super Garage in Aberdeen Mall, Richmond.
Do you think the “Chinese Driver” sticker is offensive? Weigh in down in the comments section and answer our poll.

It's only offensive to white people whom dislike Chinese people.
Or that seems to be the case. Many Chinese people I personallyknow are fine with the signs.

THIS!! I actually thought they were real when I first started seeing them around. I was about to send flowers and a thank you card to ICBC :toot:
Seriously though, it's kinda funny that they are making fun of themselves. Embracing the shitty Asian driver stigma.

Except clearly they do not see it as a form of self-mockery :concentrate:
CTV replied to my email, thanked me for providing an interesting explanation about the stickers  would be cool if they mentioned this alternate stance on the stickers in tonight's Steele on Your Side.
I find akinaris element offensive. Can we burn it already

I'm white and I don't find it offensive at all. I just laugh all the harder because to me it's like putting a big sticker on your car that says, "I FUCKING SUCK AT DRIVING STAY THE FUCK AWAY".

1. Parody law
2. Self mockery
Do people not understand this any more?
It's not like Chinese cars are "tagged" with a "C Sticker" by a 3rd party.
Anybody who does even a modicum of research knows it's self mockery.
It's like this, but in sticker form.

if an asian uses this on their car, they're being funny.
if a white person uses this on their car, they're racist.
lol.
the other day on the west side, a red light made some cars block an ally way (i was going from ally to ally, and had to cross a road).
there was just enough room for my car to squeeze through behind, this middle aged white dude in a white convertible bmw with the top down and some other car. so i squeezed through and went on my way, but before i got to the other ally, he turned and yelled at me "WATCH WHERE YOU'RE GOING CHINK!!!"
and i rolled down my window and yelled back "GO FUCK YOURSELF!".
He immediately replied "WHAT?" as if he didnt expect a reply. and his passenger started laughing. cuz he couldnt get out of his car or turn around or do anything as i drove off. his face was all red lol.
lol i just had to share that.

-sounds like the driver of the BMW convertible was not only racist, but having a big bout of road rage.
He needs a "R" decal (racist) on his ride. Mid life crisis is getting to him. :troll:
