Busted & issued a ticket for "distracted driving"

Not going to make any excuses for getting ticketed as I was 100% fully at fault for being on my phone while behind the wheel. Caught red handed & I deserve the fails as well. FailFish
Anyways, if you've heard on the news the VPD has really started cracking down on distracted drivers. The fine is $167 and I'll be paying the ticket off asap.
I hoped I would have gotten a warning but it is what it is. Just want to give a head's up to anyone who texts and can't put down their phone whilst driving to re-think using mobile devices. It's tempting but not worth getting ticketed over.
If you have to, pull off to side of road.

I was on my Grom near Brentwood and they were sitting under the tracks behind the pillars. Totally caught me off guard and I was talking on my phone. Cops then asks me if I had a headset, I told him to wait as I was on my call.. Told my buddy on the other end that a cop wants to talk to me while i'm on my bluetooth headset. Cop then just tells me nevermind and carry on. Light went green, WOT.

The response to the news of ticketing distracted driving is quite hilarious to me, especially on the news sites and fb. Before, people were like police not going to be enforcing, it's gonna be an ineffective law, blaming police for not solving distracted driving. Now that the police are out in full force ticketing everyone, people are blaming the police were wasting resources on such demeanor tasks.

Personally I am glad that the police are enforcing it. Nothing grinds my gears more than some idiot - why is it always the lead car? - on his/her phone at a light who doesn't notice that the light is green and doesn't move. Some of us have places to go, if you want to do that kind of shit on your morning commute go take transit!

The sad thing is the idiots who couldn't use a phone safely while driving before the law came into effect are the idiots who still use a phone while driving.
The rest of us who were perfectly able to quickly glance at their phone while at red lights or stopped in traffic, are the ones who abide by the law now.

Sadly, the cop can still cite you for disctracted driving, since eating + driving can be considered a distraction.

What if my phone is connected to an auxiliary cable and I'm changing the song while waiting at a red? Am I distracted? What if I'm watching a fucking unicorn with wings fly over the intersection, mesmerized by its beauty. Am I distracted then? Definition of distracted is pretty subjective - what a stupid law.

Blah blah blah. This horse (or unicorn, as the case may be) is bleedin' demised. Get over it. We already have one Sebberry, we sure don't need another.
CharlesInCharge has been rather quiet lately, though, maybe you could drop by the dollar store for a few rolls of Palestinian-made tinfoil, fashion yourself a nice hat collection, and apply for his position.

Good on you for just accepting as is, because it can't be helped, and passing along a friendly warning.
I generally just ignore texts until I get to where I'm going, or if I know who it was just use the Bluetooth Integration to call them back, hands free style.
Then again I grew up in the pre cellphone world, where people actually had to wait a few minutes to call someone back.
Then these started becoming more popular:

It's idiots that don't react when the turns green grind my gears too, it's almost like u have to honk to give everyone in front of u a wake up call right before the light turns green. It happens so much I think that's what I'm gonna have to start doing.

Keep your phone in your pocket and spend the fucking 100 dollars for a bluetooth integrated headunit. Texts are never important enough to bother sending while you are driving, and you can get phone calls without touching your phone. The amount of fucking cocksuckers I've seen blow through the red lights at the crosswalk by my house while looking down into their lap is astonishing. No one should be selfish enough to risk a pedestrians life over sending "LOL" or whatever useless shit they are sending.
Its not the biggest deal when you are doing it while sitting at a light, but why not just break the habit before it gets out of hand. We all spend too much time on these stupid things anyways and are becoming completely retarded because of it.

Any hipster worth his weight in skinny jeans knows that the fakers are trying to gain social traction online while actual hipsters congregate among themselves around craft beer, dispensary weed, underground bars and single speed bicycles

Dear Diary,
I often wonder who I wronged in life to be dealt with the hand of cards where I am sent off to perform an audit in Saskatoon, SK. I must have berated the Revscene almighty moderators or envied trollguy's trolling antics. I will never know, but such is life and here I await my flight at Terminal C Gate C59 for a stopover flight to Calgary.
The air is drab and hot inside the cabin of this Embraer E90. I'm stuck beside this redneck who looks like he hasn't slept in weeks. He reeks of cheap Canadian beer, probably not even craft brewed. Passengers up and down the aisle, the flight attendants greeting them as they come; there's a cute brunette with her hands in her pockets, and and screaming baby wailing at the top of its lungs.
I pass out. The plane lands and I await my turn to de-plane. I peek out the window and see nothing but 50 shades of beige. It's not even Saskatoon yet, but I realize again this is Calgary. There are only two colours here in this city - grey or brown. I choose the grey since the snow hasn't melted and my hand-crafted frames need a cleaning. I take my pack of pretzels and throw them into my bag and off I go.
...To be continued.

It basically boils down to this: If a cop outside your car is able to tell you're doing stuff like messing with your phone you're too distracted and subject to get a ticket. But if you're able to change songs or whatever without anyone being able to notice, you won't get a ticket.
As a side note though just pay attention to road and leave your crap alone, by their very nature no text message is important.

On my car it does everything... select playlist, play music, call, integrate contact list and even save the whole thing into car's address book. It even shows me new msgs, social updates. I think I can even reply it somehow but I haven't bothered to venture into that yet.
It makes the whole life easier with 0 chance of getting ticketed... my question would be, why not?
