Wow, that was an underwhelming first episode. I'd give it a 5.5/10. The cast is terrible. The rock is probably the only one that doesn't really stick out. Cordry should've just stuck being a satirical correspondent.

4/10 maybe. Just didn't have the interesting parts that Entourage had in their premiere. The writers took scenes from Entourage(and I'm sure many other shows) and just threw them in:

Hot Girl in Bed
Fancy Car
Sex in Club
300k thrown around
sex while on cellphone

Entourage just did it better.


Sidenote: did anyone watch The Brink after Ballers? I enjoyed that premiere more.

Glad I wasn't the only one thinking this way. This felt more like an episode halfway through a season, not a pilot. I'm sure things will get fleshed out as the show progresses, but there's just something about the show that doesn't feel right. Can't quite put my finger on what it is, but it's there.

As for Dwight Johnson, I'm okay with him as an actor. No, he's not going to win any Oscars for acting but he seems to be able to get cast into roles that more or less suit his ability (how much is there, I wont say lol).

The most emotionally charged moment this show has had so far has been a dude reminiscing over his number... not great. It's easy to see all the parallels to Entourage, but somehow this show just really doesn't achieve the same result as Entourage, and I wish it did.

Its even used at the exact same time in the episode, about 15 or so minutes in. Considering the same people are involved with both shows you'd think they would have caught that and picked a different song. #randomfacts

I still feel like something is missing.

I'm hoping that once the actual football season starts, that they will delve into that a little bit further.

The major difference I see between this show and entourage right now, is that entourage did still elaborate and focus on the actual career of vince once in awhile.

Also the character development is not there yet, I mean with entourage you pretty much had 5 separate characters developments and stories going at once, sure they intertwined really often, but you still got to see side stories related to each one.

As far as right now the only developed character in this show is the Rock. The rest of the guys are barely even secondary characters.

Season 1 was during the "summer" off-season for the NFL, contract negotiations, new teams retirement. Hopefully Season 2 is during the NFL season, steroid scare for one of the players, side chicks coming out. etc. Also a rivalry with another team, 2 of the guy are on the Dolphins, Vernon is on the Cowboys, would've been easier for story telling purposes if they were all on the same team.
