VANCOUVER (NEWS1130) – Another black bear has been tranquilized and taken out of a populated area of Metro Vancouver — this time, in southeast Vancouver.

The animal was spotted this morning wandering around the neighbourhood, mainly along 49th Avenue between Tyne and Commercial.

It was finally corralled in the backyard of a home owned by Avtar Sandhu.

“I’m quite surprised. I see a lot of racoons and coyotes — that’s all I’ve seen so far. I’ve never seen a big black bear,” says Sandhu.

“It was in a highly unusual area. It’s very residential; it’s an urban area. It is unusual, but it’s not uncommon. We’ve had incidents where bears have been trapped and confined into residential areas of Vancouver,” says Sergeant Todd Hunter with the Conservation Service.

It’s not clear right now what will happen to the bear.

Just this past Sunday, a bear was spotted swimming in Lafarge Lake in Coquitlam, and had to be sedated and moved out of Town Centre Park.

I hope they put him somewhere safe and he doesn't wander back in. A bear wanders in once and he gets tranqued. Wanders in twice and he gets dead.

I wonder if that's the same one we saw in Maple Ridge a few weeks back, probably not but that's an odd area for a bear to end up.
