Five battles the 2016 Chevy Camaro needs to win (http://www.freep.com/story/money/cars/mark-phelan/2015/05/16/2016-chevrolet-camaro-/27219459/)
http://www.gannett-cdn.com/-mm-/355da9272e05246028e30de0323d8fec90c93fa0/c=23-0-2143-1594&r=x383&c=540x380/local/-/media/2015/05/16/DetroitFreePress/DetroitFreePress/635673896786922590-2016-Chevrolet-Camaro-020.jpg
Performance – The Camaro sheds at least 200 pounds for all models. That should improve acceleration and handling significantly.
Chevy's small-block V8 and 3.6L V6 engines are powerful and efficient. The optional eight-speed automatic transmission is an asset the competition can't match.
A 50/50 front/rear weight distribution would be the crowning achievement in chassis engineering, if Chevy can deliver it.
The big question will be whether the 2016 Camaro's 270-hp turbocharged four-cylinder base engine can match the Mustang's 300-hp base V6.
Fuel economy – With every model at least 200 pounds lighter than the car it replaces and a new eight-speed automatic transmission, each of the new Camaro's drivetrains could be the most fuel efficient in its segment. The addition of cylinder deactivation to GM's stalwart 3.6L V6 engine should boost highway fuel economy substantially, creating a yawning gap between it and Ford's V6 base model.
The fact that the engines will require premium gasoline for maximum performance and mileage is a drawback, though. The Camaro must beat the competition by more than 1 mpg to overcome it.
Ergonomics – Even the outgoing Camaro's fans admit the car's sightlines are poor, largely due to a high beltline and narrow windows. Those proportions are part of what Camaro fans like, though. It'll be a major challenge for GM's designers to combine it with first-class visibility.
The addition of a standard backup camera is overdue. Making blind spot and cross-traffic alert standard would have been nice, too, but they're options.
The addition of a big touch screen for Chevy's user-friendly MyLink system is a definite plus. MyLink's excellent voice recognition gives the Camaro an advantage over many competitors.
Styling – Did the new Camaro evolve enough? The new car is 2.3 inches shorter, 0.8 inches narrower and 1.2 inches less tall than the 2015 model, but its profile is nearly identical to the outgoing car.
This guarantees Camaro fans will recognize the '16 model, but the new car could look old before its time.
Interior comfort – Nobody ever bought a Camaro for its rear legroom, but the car must be comfortable for two people and capable of carrying four without too much whining. The trunk has to be big enough to car a couple's bags for a weekend getaway. That's particularly important for the convertible model that's likely to arrive early next year.

Can the windows get any smaller? I like the whole chopped roof look but from a practicality stand point what's a car with no outward visibility. Say NO to high beltlines!

That 2.0L turbo is more powerful than SR20DET! Shit!
Nissan needs to come up with Silvia with new SR20

If you drive faster than everyone else, you don't have to worry about visibility :troll:
As for this car, it looks like a huge improvement over everything the previous generation gave us. I think they definitely have a Mustang fighter with this one. Now it's up to Mopar to redesign their bathtub errr...Challenger

fuck stop with the 4 banger muscle cars. I saw a new Mustang gun it at a green light today and instead of roaring it sounded like a Hyundai Elantra :rukidding:
V8 or gtfo. Even a V6 is dumb and cheap looking. The redesign does look sweet though, i feel bad for the people that bought last years refresh.

v6 auto mustangs and camaros have always been known as the "fat chick special" . :lawl:
i dont know though, the mustang with the 4 cylinder seems ok because its nothing new. the foxbody had a special version called the SVO which was a 2.3L turbo 4 as well..
i think gm fucked up by introducing the camaro with a 4cylinder. its wrong. what they should have done is developed a turbo 6 cylinder because of the good ol days of the grand national.

GM experimented once with a 4-banger Camaro in the Iron Duke engine, and that was anemic as an option. But with today's tech it's way more relevant despite 4-cylinder muscle not making much sense.

less than 6 seconds?
They could make it faster with a 4 pot turbo.
Timpo, can you quote where you got that 0-60mph figure?
I couldn't find it in your links.

I think it's quite impressive for such a big car with small engine.
That's like Porsche Boxster and Hyundai Genesis Coupe(3.8L V6 version) territory isn't it?
Anyways, here's the link:

You are right.
I did a few minutes of research and the 2013 Genesis Coupe is 6 seconds and the 2015 Boxter is 5.8 seconds, so the Camaro's "less than 6 seconds" for the 4 pot is good when compared to the Genesis, Boxster, etc.
I was surprised, because I thought it would go at least somewhat quicker than the 6 seconds or high 5's, with the turbo technology nowadays and the lowered lbs.

apparently Camaro will be much smaller than the current model.
I don't know about that, American muscle cars are generally known as a big car and gives this road presence. But the new Camaro is trying to be small and be a sportscar like 370Z.

Just from Porsche's official numbers at Porsche Home - Porsche Canada (http://www.porsche.ca)
Granted, it is probably quicker tested by third party reviewers and actual owners.

Weird, I never understood why Porsche always puts lower numbers than the car actually has
It will be interesting how well it can handle twisty roads and how it feels

I couldn't care less about the Camaro.
What's intriguing is the numbers the 2.0L LTG, 4 cyl. puts out, in terms of swap potential for smaller cars.

What kind of small cars are you talking about? Because LS6, LS7, etc. have been swapped into lots of small cars (Miata, Mini Cooper, Super 7, etc) and if someone was looking for a 4 banger, they already have done it with SR20DET boosted to 500-700hp. :suspicious:
