Found 2 lost keys (subbie and vw) yesterday at a parking lot when I went hiking. Sure enough it belongs to the car directly in front of where its misplaced. I tried to find a contact number on the insurance...endd up just leaving both keys in front of the cluster. I just wanna make sure the rightful owner finds it and no lurker drove off with it. I have the owners name and address. How do I follow up and what should I do next time? I dunno if there's a lost and found on a ski hill this time of the year.

maybe call the police non-emergency address and tell them you found the keys and you left on the car. And since you have the name and address if you give that to them maybe they can call them to double check ?

if you have their address, you can try to look it up on whitepages or whatever the phone directory is called these days.
heck, even try facebook and just message them.
i hope you locked the doors. at the cost of calling a truck to jimmy the door open is still a cheaper option than to have the car stolen. just hope some prick doesn't smash the windows to grab the keys.

I know this isn't practicable sometimes, but last time I found a set of keys I played candy crush for about 20 minutes before the owner came running, and handed it to him directly.
