Hi All,

I'm new to the forum, but have been gaining a lot of useful info from here. Originally from Australia, but moved to BC towards the end of last year, and more recently just bought a used 2005 Dodge Grand Caravan (yes it's a soccer mum car, I know :P).

The van has a few things that needs replacing including a wheel bearing, an outer tie-rod and the front E-brake cable is broken. Wondering if anyone has any recommendations for a reliable, reasonable mechanic shop in Vancouver/Burnaby/Richmond - I tried doing a search of the forums, but didn't really find anything.

I actually live up in Whistler, and have a rough idea of what it's going to cost to get it done in Whistler (eg for replacement of one wheel bearing and one tie-rod about $510+tax), but I wonder if it would be any cheaper down in Vancouver as it's not much trouble for me to go to the city.

Thanks for any help :)

Well it's gonna cost you a tank of gas to come down and back to here. Any shop can work on that van, they're not exactly complex. I'd just phone around and go with whoever gives you the lowest quote.

when i used to be in north van several years ago this was a shop that was recommended to me:

Hi-Tech Automotive - Auto Repair - North Vancouver, BC - Yelp (http://www.yelp.ca/biz/hi-tech-automotive-north-vancouver)

maybe ask around or visit and see what you think? i haven't been there for some time but it's a starting point and might be closer than having to cross the bridge to vancouver...

Who did you get the quote with in Whistler?

Try Barney's Automotive (http://www.barneys.ca/). If you're not happy with their quote, in Squamish there are number of good mechanic shops:
Neuport Automotive
OK Tire
Hunters Automotive

Or, head North to pemberton and check out:
OLE Automotive
Spearings

From Australia, lives in Whistler. You're not helping the local stereotype of Australians, mate. :p
