Around the internet it is becoming obvious, if you want to get rich and famous:
1. Act stupid
2. Do not create original characters
3. Aim low
Revscene people will probably just go: "You're jealous that your book sucks and nobody likes your art. Cry harder Jason!"
It goes deeper than that. Just the other day we had the Earl Marriot post:
http://i.imgur.com/1no8h0g.jpg
The exact same type of fucking retard that will laugh at the above video and the scenes of food wasting and gratuitous violence are the same type to litter. In fact, those people will take the time to leave comments, like and share that video will be the same type to become a blight on nature and infect others with the same apathy towards having any class.
Basically, retardism.
The type of bro at a meet up that tells people he will fuck their head are the same type to vote this shit up.
Gentlemen, we are ever-increasingly surrounded by retards and YouTube is a hive of retardation.
Let the war on retards begin!

In Vancouver we have the lower classes and the upper classes, there is no in-between
Art has become similar
Low brow art, like this example:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kI6ioPSKUgQ
Is VERY popular. 12 million views! Watch the video if you can. It is extremely graphic and horrific without any real plot. Millennials eat this shit up like crazy and make fucking morons rich.
Porn that I sell, especially the porn where 18-19 year old girls get throat fucked until they cry and end up with 4-5 cum loads on their faces at the end makes the most money.
There is almost no "middle class" art anymore. Who are the unsung heros of art? There are very few. Can anyone name any good bands from Vancouver? Certainly if they get any hits they don't stay here! Any good authors? When they film in Vancouver, it is never about Vancouver. There is no room in art(Vancouver) for a middle ground(class).
The upper classes of art are the Jay-Z's, the Seth MacFarlanes, the Iggy Igloos, the Drakes, Taylor Swifts, Madonnas.
I don't want to go off on a Charles in Charge tangent about the illuminati and mind control, buuuuuuuuuuuut... it does seem awfully convenient that today's art and media is so spoon-fed to people that you have to search out intelligent media and art.
The dumbest shit and the most popular shit is thrown so hard at your eyeballs that pop culture is impossible to avoid. If I were an asian parent I would totally try and keep my kids away from the ever-present "dumb white people" culture.

It's because the new generation are too lazy (or perhaps lacks the capability) to think.
Thus, they like everything that are given to them at face value. Long gone were the days of deeper meanings and "something to think about"...

While I think its clear that humans have made advancements as time goes on, I think the intelligence gap is widening as much as the income gap. The extremes are further apart in my opinion. I have no definitive proof, although the fact that there is consideration to vote in another Bush as president is a good indicator as far as the U.S. goes.

Bill Gates, I believe, said that we're getting smarter, not dumber.
What metric is he basing that on?
I think, as a whole, we are getting dumber and more reliant on technology!
Since the middle class has been crushed so thoroughly people have less time to engage their minds. Instead people seek out instant-gratification rather than any sort of deeper meaning. Life becomes a reaction to a reaction from a reaction rather than observation, reflection and understanding.
Once my mask arrives to protect my anonymity I may make some YouTube videos, not to attack others but to discuss virtue VS vice in an age where vice is sooooooooooo cool.

that may be, its hard to scientifically determine any of those things of course.
however, we're living in an age where information and education are more accessible than affordable and ever. you can get free courses at any time from MIT or stanford, so hopefully that trend continues in order to close the gap.

is being reliant on technology actually a bad thing though
before if you had some beliefs/knowledge about a topic, it would be a pain in the ass to confirm it. now i can just hop on google and throw up 10000000+ scientific articles.
ideas can be shared and created faster and more "effectively" i dont see this as a negative.
and in terms of intellectual pursuits and vices/virtues that's more of a personal topic that is too complex to be discussed in a forum lol

it takes billions of commoners to support a genius.
that's the equilibrium.
just like animal breeding. you have to discard many specimens with average or below average features, to find that one super specimen.
the purpose for all those commoners, is to support the pillars of society, and at the top of the pillar, is the superhuman. the ones that actually make a difference.
the rest are disposable... err replaceable.
if commoners didn't watch commoner shit, they wouldn't be commoners.

It doesn't matter. He's using a slang word about a specific type of person. Handicapped people are called Retards. Black people are called Niggers. Gay people are called Faggots. No difference. The only difference is that society has not adapted it's thought process on the word retarded. Only time will affect that, just like the others.

im pretty sure retard is not as offensive as faggot is not as offensive as nigger.
and it's quite different too.
because if you're calling someone a nigger... you're implying he's as racially inferior as a black man is... implying black people are inferior (which is not true? LOL... jk it's not true).
but if you call someone a retard... you're implying that they're as mentally disadvantaged as a mentally retarded person... implying that mentally retarded people are mentally retarded... which is true.

Unpopular opinion: The average person has always been a stupid bag of meat, it's just more obvious now that technology makes it easy to quantify (ie views on YouTube). i also think it's sorta unfair to measure a video's level of "art" by the level of views it has...
views doesn't really equate art...
it just means... views.
i could upload a video of megan fox's snatch and it would probably make more money and gain more views than some artist that has been trying his entire life to make it big. LOL.
i wouldn't equate art or intelligence with popularity or number of views or whatever.
even the most art of art... the shit they have in museums and art galleries... get less views than, i duno, a video of a kid lighting his fart on fire.
i seriously hope real art never gets popular. it means either people are pretending to know something about art, and it's some fad to be "into" art...
or everyone somehow turned far more intelligent and i am now average HAHA...

no
i disagree.
given the same group of people.... throw into different circumstances (all together). i believe the same people would excel in terms of intelligence in every single situation.
the ones that would come out on top, will come out on top vs the others in the same situation. always.
people are NOT equal.
equal opportunity does NOT equate to equal performance.

What you're describing is standard distribution. adding to my point above, I believe anybody with the right circumstances can achieve intelligence that would fall right around the mean or above it (or maybe slightly below it lol).
i don't dispute outliers due to genetic predisposition.

I think natural selection has something to do with all the stupid people in our day and age, think about it....
100 or so years ago these same stupid people that make stupid youtube videos would have been taken out in one way or another by nature. whether it would have been from being out in the wilderness, diseases and illness', or just from the shoddy medical care available at the time. We live in a time when medical science can do remarkable things to heal people and cure diseases, so less people are dieing off, thereby reproducing more un-intellectual offspring and so on.....

As for extreme causes, I personally think introducing heavy metals into an infants blood and for it to naturally cross the blood and brain barrier is one of the top problems causing Autism, second being malnourishment for proper brain function, third being fetal alcohol syndrome.
These things are systematic and will not change in our lifetime.

Personally, I think that professional sports as a whole is a pretty big marker of how "stupid" we are as a society... we are completely okay with an athlete to be paid $100 million to walk around a ring and throw punches, or throw a rubber ball into a hoop or whatnot.
But God forbid we pay people who are actually necessary, like teachers, a wage proportional to their importance in society...
... and then we bitch about how "kids these days" are so stupid, disrespectful, ignorant, etc. It's no different than going to a shitty mechanic to save money and then complaining/wondering why your wheel fell off while driving home.
I always find it ironic that our society has such weird pre-occupations. Personally, I believe the word has been so far disconnected from it's original use to refer to mentally handicapped people that it has now evolved to nothing more than an insult. Just as the word dumb has been so far disconnected that it no longer refers to someone who is unable to speak. It's all about context. People have varying levels of what they find offensive and we may not see eye to eye on how we perceive a certain word. Regardless my intentions are never to offend any individual who is thoughtful to others around them, but we just don't see it the same way. Many could argue that your user name is offensive to women. Perception is a sticky subject. I prefer to not look for deeper offensive meaning in what some consider to be a poor choice of words.

"you're so fucking stupid"

there's a difference.
"lol what a fag"
vs
"die you fucking faggot!" *while stomping on his face*
"nigga stole mah bike!!!"

intent is everything. words are just words.

ahhh...the classic "BUT BUT TEACHERS SHOULD MAKE MORE MONEY THAN ATHLETES" argument that's been debunked 1000000000 of times
athletes are first and foremost employees of a organization that has a basically unlimited budget and can pay their employees whatever they want. teachers are generally speaking employees of the gov't or whatever - gov'ts have a much more limited revenue and tighter budget.
teachers are MUCH easier to find and train than athletes. only .000001% of the world (or whatever) has the skill necessary to become a pro athlete.
also, whereas athletes make millions, they are also making their company hundreds of millions in dollars in terms of revenue from the games, merchandise etc etc. teachers don't exactly have this rate of return.
tl,dr: athletes aren't overpaid because of how much money they generate for their employers.
of course teachers are extremely important for the general welfare of society, but you can't compare their compensation to an athletes lol.

There are 20 million doctors in this world, there is 1 Sidney Crosby, period.
Also bitching about athletes vs doctors, teachers, these top tier athletes probably put wayyyy more time into their craft daily then your typical doctor or teacher.
There's a stat for getting drafted into the NFL which is somthing like of the eligible NCAA athletes, only 200 of the 450,000 get drafted, and of those 200 only somthing like 25 ever see regular time/pay on an active roster.
So for most of these stats with pro athletes, if you're a borderline pro you're wayyyy safer to go to school and apply yourself to make 60-80k per year as opposed to spend the first 30 years of your life grinding out an existence only to be left with no other options. You're essentially banking you're entire life on a short, lucritive career, if it doesn't pan out your SOL

There are 20 million doctors in this world, there is 1 Sidney Crosby, period.

If you're a smart athlete who's borderline you'll do both. Someone like Connor McDavid is obviously set for life already no matter what happens with his career going forward. For most athletes they are so much better off IMO taking advantage of the free education and having a backup plan. Probably even more true for football players where a lot of the salary isn't guaranteed even if you are in the top echelon.
I do agree though, the odds of becoming a professional athlete are so unlikely and the teams are profiting off them so much they might as well get paid. They are no different then any other performer, actor or singer.

Yea hockey is probably the worst professional sport to come out of with an education because the vast majority of picks are taken out of major junior, not the NCAA like basketball and football. Although most basketball players don't seem to turn into much post career outside of broadcasting

ahhh...the classic "BUT BUT TEACHERS SHOULD MAKE MORE MONEY THAN ATHLETES" argument that's been debunked 1000000000 of times
athletes are first and foremost employees of a organization that has a basically unlimited budget and can pay their employees whatever they want. teachers are generally speaking employees of the gov't or whatever - gov'ts have a much more limited revenue and tighter budget.
I think the important point that tends to get skipped is that people generally have no problem paying extra money towards entertainment (ie sports tickets, extra TV channels, PPV, etc) but if you mention increasing taxes to pay teachers more people lose their minds.
I'm not saying athlete's aren't skilled and sometimes unique individuals, but their talent has value for entertainment purposes and nothing more.

well their value is they generate money and tax revenue which goes back into the economy and the government
and you could honestly make that arguement for anything that doesn't have a direct tangible benefit to society such as art, music...etc

Very few people show much self-awareness in this world, being arrogant and forcing my views on other people isn't going to make any friends. A few members here have a greater sense of where shit is going and why things are they way they are, and I'll be glad when I eventually meet these folk.

For me, 2016 lol :okay:
For reals though, I get you, and I suspect a lot of other people on here actually do, but reality sucks... and most of us will continue to accept the reality of our shitty jobs and boring lives while you continue to write books - whether or not they sell is irrelevant.
I will probably quit my line of work within the next 4 years and my new full time gig will be fighting to save old growth forests or law school

My first thought was that these two options were miles apart. Kind of like debating on whether one should pursue a career in fisting porn, or a become an ordained reverend.
But then I thought to myself, "self, why wouldn't he just use the power of the law to save the trees?"

The problem that I've encountered is, sometimes the people calling other people retards are not the sharpest tools in the shed either. The self righteousness I've encountered in real life is six feet deep. You aren't perfect, because nobody is.
I don't like listening to artists like Miley Cyrus, or watching corny youtube videos like the ones linked, but that does not automatically mean that everyone that does is mentally handicapped. Everybody has done something in their lives that another person would consider unnacceptable or "retarded", regardless of whether or not the action taken warranted it.
People have outright told me that I'm retarded because I like guns, that's not much different from the behaviour that has been displayed in this thread. Lots of people think that modifying cars is stupid and without purpose, and trying to explain yourself will likely result in lots of huffing and puffing. Regardless, it doesn't make you or the person arguing with you "retarded" at all.
You can call anybody retarded, but it doesn't mean that you are superior in any way.

The crime that occurred behind the yellow tape might not be as serious as reported but this is rather distasteful and disrespectful. Almost as bad as soldiers posing in front of dead enemies.
Hipsters Snap Selfies, Demand Ice Cream After 3 People Shot (http://www.vocativ.com/underworld/crime/hipsters-snap-selfies-demand-ice-cream-after-3-people-shot/)
Btw, the term used, "retards", goes past my boundaries. Can remember catching an old friend years and years ago red-handed. It was pretty serious, so I asked him if he was retarded. He totally flipped out. I sensed something happened to him as a child. I would suggest and even urge not using that term directed to a child or teenager.

We don't know if they smiled ironically or not, or what caption they chose, or what filter.
If they used Hefe to pop the yellow colours and noted that they were smiling due to their white privilege keeping them safe, then I'd say that they did it ironically and they should be given ice cream.
On the other hand, if they posted it with a simple caption about someone getting shot while smiling and using an Earlybird filter to enhance their skin tones, then they made themselves the focus of the photo AND didn't make any statement with the requisite irony; they should be immediately banned from wearing skinny jeans and drinking craft beer for a week.
