I had this drink once under the impression it was too wild of a concept, but it was pretty delicious.

Does it taste best with a specific type of milk? (i.e. skim / 1% / 2% / homo etc.)

Locally I'd just use 2% although i've never experimented closely to tell the difference. In Hong Kong there is a cha chan teng that uses hokkaido milk and its :sweetjesus:

Buddy, you are missing out. I'd usually just fill cup 55% to 60% of milk and top the rest with cream soda, just so its more on the creamier side. Let me know what you think:hotbaby:

you guy's sound like noobs. i honestly always thought this was an EI thing. we call it doudhsoda (soda milk). i've always found it works the best with a thicker milk, so use 2%. try it with different brands of cream soda as well. for years, i only ever made it using crush cream soda.

i agree. it's always worked out better for me pouring the milk in first. 60% milk is the sweet spot i think.

other than crush what other brands have you found that tastes good?

Gucci Mane
06-13-2015, 12:33 AM
well i tend to like things on the sweeter side so crush has always been my favorite. jones soda works quite well. the best is just to buy a few cans of cream soda's and see which combo works the best for you.

I've never thought to try cream soda! I can't wait to try this.

Growing up, my Dad used to make my sister and I drinks with Coke/Milk mix, and even Root Beer/Milk.

And we're a bunch of white folk lol...not that it matters, this just seemed like such a white thing to do :lol

Dud-soda. Thought only us brown folk did it.

Dude, you're brown? Not that it matters.

Anyway, when I was in elementary school the only brown kid in the entire school (Strathcona) made us this drink (pop and milk). It was awesome. His last name was Sodhi. We coined the drink, "Sodhi Pop." So, it's been around a long time.

Cream Soda from scratch has been prepared with real cream for many decades if not over 100 years... it's not a HK thing or an Indian thing.

Try it with cream instead of milk, even better :sweetjesus:

What are the ratios?

60% milk and 40% soda usually works good it matters how sweet you like your drink

Galactic_Phantom

So I just tried it with coke today using the same formula and its doesn't really work lol. With cream soda it blends really well (cream soda, duh!), adding layers to the milk and enhancing the flavour even more. It just makes the drink more 'complete' whereas coke it does nothing for me lol

What kind of sorcery is this? Saw the thread and thought, milk and pop? Nope.

Then I was at Safeway yesterday getting some tonic and took a good long look at the cream soda.

Avoided buying any, but have a feeling my curiousity will soon get the best of me.

I was thinking the same thing when I read the OP but then I thought of Coke/Rootbeer floats.

I'll give it a shot since we're buying whole milk by the gallon right now.

Oh man I love this drink! Interesting to see that that it is also popular outside of HK! Works best with the Schwepps green cream soda and 2% or homo milk. I usually do 25-35% milk and the rest cream soda.

Random article I found when googling this combo
Soft and Stiff Peaks: Cream Soda and Milk - A Hong Kong beverage (http://softandstiffpeaks.blogspot.ca/2011/11/cream-soda-and-milk-hong-kong-beverage.html)

How's this any worse than ice cream and rootbeer or coke float? If anything, ice cream should give you the runs worse from the sugar on top of sugar on top flavoring. I would think it's just lactose intolerance that would make wet boom-booms.

I for one love soda and milk. Next thing up that people will find gross = egg soda from any Vietnamese place. It's exactly how it sounds and tastes delicious.:accepted:

Shiet been drinking this combo for over 20 years. Many friends always thought this combo was a tummy ache waiting to happen but as ZN6 pointed out I've always thought the combo is similar to a float.

I usually do 40 milk 60 soda

Tried it for the first time. It was so good it blew my mind. :fuckyea:

I went to Superstore and got homo milk(as somebody had suggested the creamier the milk the better..) and just the pc brand cream soda.

I mixed a bottle of stewarts creme soda (same colour as scheweppes) and 2%. Not bad. but not as great as I expected. Going to go for the scheweppes/homo combination next time.

A word of warning: If you go out and buy the Schweppes cream soda, it comes in a can. I have not seen the 2L bottles in a long time.

I once bought Schweppes ginger ale (thinking it was the cream soda) and poured milk into it....

Went for round 2 with scheweppes cream soda and 2%. Much better than my first time.

The first time I used Stewart's cream soda which already has a strong vanilla flavour to it. It actually tastes better on its own without milk. The scheweppes combo is the trick.

Fact of the day: T&T gets imports its scheweppes cream soda from Macau.

I take back everything I said about 2%. Use homo, its so much better. Same ratios tho

We've always used CRUSH cream soda for as long as I can remember, seems to always be the go to, so why fix what ain't broke. I always thought this was an EI thing too growing up, cool to see others are familiar with it too.
