What is up with (white) old people? Some of them seem to be entitled, whiny, possibly racist, and rude.

I was at Save-On's during lunch, and I was looking for a decent looking bunch of green onions. I feel a tug on my arm and this old lady tells me that it's gross, and I have to take what I touch. WTF? Has she never been to the grocery store? How are you supposed to get quality produce for your family if you have to take the first thing you pick up? Any ways, she was old, and I didn't want to cause a scene, so I just said, "whatever" and continued my produce picking.

Another time, I was at Harrison looking for a parking spot, and this big ass truck is just stopped in lot, causing cars to pile-up behind them. Their waiting for a spot to open up. This big-old dude gets out of the truck and tells us not to take any spots until they get one. That was weird. We just kind of ignored them and continued our circling. As we're going around for the 3rd time a couple coming out of the store says their leaving and we can have their spot, and to follow them. We did, and we got a nice spot.

The truck comes back around, and sees we have a spot, and they get all pissy, and said that it was their spot. The old lady says we're rude, and my wife goes apeshit on her and the husband. They are shocked and leave. Don't mess with my wife.

I'm sure I have more stories about stupid old people, but I can't remember any more at the moment. Any RS'ers have their experiences to share?

Your hormone balance will change too, that might have something to do with selfishness or short temper.

Also you are at the last stage of your life. You will either think that you would wanna do nice thing to people, or be a complete douche and do whatever you want because you have nothing to lose.

Who knows, time flies and you just live your life, next thing you know, you are a senior and everybody else will treat you so. That might make them think everyone's a threat in some ways.

Add to this, your friends and siblings dying on you, your family basically abandoning you, feeling helpless and always living in fear. You have so many regrets. Your mind is still active, but your body doesnt do what you tell it. You're constantly worried about what you eat because it can lead to diarrhea for days. Then there's loneliness. You forget what day it is and even what time of day it is.

There's no such thing as dignity when you get to that age. My mother is 92 and she is dying. She gave so much when she was young. She is so frustrated when she doesn't have the strength to move her wheelchair over the slightest of bumps. She becomes easily confused. She slurs her words and cannot hear anything. She can barely stand up............ you guys will get there one day. Look forward to it.

Dude I swear Safeway on Willingdon and Hastings is the worst place for this shit. Here's two examples.

#1: I was signalling to park on my left and I had made eye contact to an elderly gentleman walking towards me. I move my car to the left, still signalling and getting ready to back in and checking blind spots. I start backing in than the cunt who was on the other side walking somehow ends up at my window(I guess he decided to cross where i'm fucking backing into a spot in my blind spot instead of walking two more steps than crossing) he starts fucking telling me to watch out for people and shit. In my head I was like ffs dude why would you walk into my blind spot right after I had checked, signalled before that, and used body language/eye contact to confirm I saw you even before that), anyways this guy didn't stfu and I lost my temper and told him to fuck off and gtfo my way.

#2 Same Safeway a few days later:
So my girlfriend goes inside to grab ice for our cooler, and I'm sitting in my car smoking with my music turned down. Some cunt old guy gets into his car in front of mine and literally just stares at me as if he suspects I'm going to start shooting everyone or something, he gets on his phone to pretend he's calling the cops or something while staring at me(I did absolutely nothing wrong he's just possibly a racist fuck who thinks some dark kid is in the parking lot up to no good). Same time some old asian granny slams her door wide open with no fucks given, hits my car and I tell her "excuse me, could you not slam your door into my car please?" and she doesn't even look at me as if she can't hear. Anyways my girlfriend comes back and the old douche in front realizes in his head "Oh he was waiting for his girlfriend, his dark ass wasn't here to kill people in the middle of the fucking day" and drives off. wtf?

Only after he died did I find out he was sent to Korea to fight, and was shot in the stomach by the Chinese. While I don't defend his intolerance, nor did I ever support his blatant racism, I kind of get it.

My Opa on my mom's side was a medical doctor in General Rommel's Afrika Korps, so you can imagine what sort of shit he was subjected to. However, he wasn't a willing participant because while he and my Oma were Austrian, they were in the process of getting their German citizenship right at the onset of WW2 and the only way they could keep any citizenship and not become stateless was to fight.

My dad's family is an odd mixture of Russian/German/Austrian Jew. My grandparents on both sides never met one another until the early 90's. It was an... interesting... meeting. I know my mom's parents never had any actual hatred toward the people they were fighting, but my dad's side definitely had family members die in the camps. Even as a kid, I could see the nervousness, hesitation and tip toeing around certain topics.



All that said, I can definitely understand how certain generations will have something ingrained into their mind. When you've been taught something for decades and suddenly find that it's no longer socially acceptable, it's hard to change. Whether it's religion, incorrect cultural behaviour, racism, or anything else, if it's all you've known for 60 or 70 years, it takes more than just a newspaper clipping to change your belief system. It's why I don't get terribly upset when I see such people saying certain comments, whether it's about racism, gays, or something that's a standard position for the hard, hard right in politics - it's all they've known and, frankly, it's not likely to be changed.

Waiting in the line for the Porta Potty Canada Day with my kid in Regina at there celebration there. There are probably 30 people in line, old fella walks past everyone and starts wiggling doors like he's the police. He eventually wiggles a handle at the same time someone is existing and walks right in awkwardly just like when someone is standing to close to the elevator doors as it opens and people are trying to get out.

I look at my son and I'm like that guy is awesome!! He gave zero fucks, wasn't even mad it made me laugh. I don't know if he realized there was a line-up or not but I hope he did and just didn't give a fuck, he reminded me of my Grandpa.
